Voice Actress Hisako Kanemoto Takes Hiatus to Study Abroad

Voice actress Hisako Kanemoto announced on her blog on Saturday that she is taking a hiatus from her voice acting activities so she can study abroad. Kanemoto plans to return in March 2019.

Kanemoto explained that she wanted to see a broader world, and also broaden her outlook on life, and since she was interested in studying abroad, she decided to take this step. She added that she will challenge herself to study hard and grow as a person. She thanked her fans, her talent agency, and those who supported her for helping her to take this step.

Kanemoto made her debut in anime in the Sound of the Sky series in 2010, playing protagonist Kanata Sorami. She has also voiced roles in such anime as Squid Girl (Ika Musume), Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (Atra Mixta), Food Wars! The Third Plate (Erina Nakiri, replacing Risa Taneda from the previous two series), Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal (Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury), The Seven Deadly Sins (Veronica), Strike the Blood (Natsuki Minamiya), Assassination Classroom (Hinano Kurahashi), Durarara!! (Kuri Orihara), Sword Oratoria: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side (Filvis Challia), and Girls und Panzer (Hoshino), among others.
If they're working on the Crystal movies now then we might be seeing a new Sailor Mercury. The same thing happened with Yuko Minaguchi (90s Hotaru) when she left to study in the US from 2012-2014 and it affected her DBZ roles as Videl and Pan, specifically for Kai The Final Chapters and the Toriko/One Piece/DBZ special which had Shino Kakinuma (90s Naru, Crystal Keiko Tomoe) fill in for her...and she was terrible as Videl.

I guess it depends when movie 1 premieres. If its next year then she still might be able to do it. If not im sure they can find a good replacement

If they really wanted to keep it close to home they could bring back Hisakawa Aya who recently did go back to Sakura as Kero. That way they wouldnt risk new actress to feel out of place/not fitting the role

No, Ami/Mercury will simply have no spoken lines. She'll communicate entirely via text messages sent with her FinePad.
Or just show a silhouette the entire time. :P

Spoiler: show
It worked for the 02 kids in the last Digimon Tri film after all. :loltext:

Wow. Thats good for her. I though she sounded cute as one of the Mercury VA. It's pretty interesting that the original cast didn't come back though since I see posts stating they are still doing work.

High rates?

It might not be much of an issue if the first movie premieres during Summer, Fall or Winter of 2019... At this point replacing her would be silly, considering it’s not even happening this year.

Gosh please don't let her be replaced with Kanna Hanazawa. So many people were osessed she should be Ami back in the day... I'm sick and tired of her voice.

I remember the incident It was horrible and although she didn't participate, the fact she wss making fun of a collegue speaks a lot about her. But as Ami voice she has done wonderful job so far. I doubt they will need to replace her, there is no way the will be ready with the movie by next spring. And voice work is done last in anime.

Honestly, I'd rather have either Rika Izumi (from the live series) take on Ami's role if possible (not sure if Aya Hisakawa would be my other choice considering that I think most of Crystal staff are avoiding all other older voices (aside Kotono)), but that's just a silly what if in my head

That's not exactly true considering they brought back some of the old cast to voice other characters like, in addition to Shino Kakinuma (Naru) as Hotaru's mom, Yoko Matsuoka (who voiced 3 MotW characters in season 1 & S) was Queen Metalia and Mami Koyama (Esmeraude) is Queen Serenity.

Being almost 30, she's probably too old for the role now. XD

Let's be real - Hisako-san will finish a whole doctorate by the time they finish the animation.
Or several post-doctorate research degrees. :P

Considering the films seem to be progressing at a snail’s pace, I wouldn’t be surprised if she finishes her studies before voice recording even begins lol
