Oh cool, now they're claiming that not keeping in honorifics and random words in Japanese would be cultural erasure.
Where was this said?

I mean, they strongly implied as much in their LiveJournal post:

But first, I wanted to address the matter of name honorifics, since apparently there are people out there who are so very sad that this edition contains Japanese ones. The catty side of the both of us has us going, "Oh, dear, we're so very sorry that your Japanese manga contains reminders that it is from Japan. I should have known that it was my job to erase the culture." (In case it wasn't obvious, we did mean that sarcastically.)
Sure they play this remark off as sarcasm, but I think we can all see through that. They seem to really believe keeping honorifics is essential and people who don't like them are culturally insensitive/ignorant.

Anyway.

Brazilian manga publisher JBC announced they are going to publish the Eternal Edition in both physical and digital copies.
Have there been any further updates on this? They have a banner advertising the digital release of the EE on their website, but it just links you to the preview on the main website for the manga's international digital release. I can't find any indication that they've released any of the e-books yet, nor any physical copies.

I know that the French translation just released volume 3 this month, and that translation appears to be an entirely digital release (at least so far) as I can't find any physical copies for sale anywhere. The German translation is apparently going to begin releasing this year, and that will be both a digital release and a hardcover physical release.

From the previews available, I quite like the French translation so far. I don't think the typesetting is quite as nice as the English release, but it's better than the German, and I think overall the translation seems pretty solid. It's not completely honorific-free, but it's a lot better than the English version. I'd definitely rather own the French editions, if only there were physical copies.

As far as I know, they still haven't a release date, but they confirmed last year they'll release it both digitally and physically. As expected, Naoko is being demanding, and they were trying to convince her to have the transformation and attack names translated like in the shinsouban release.

So, I looked up "jinja" and found out "shrine" isn't a direct English translation of the word. It's a specific word for Shinto places of worship.
They could definitely give a better reason to why they kept the word as in the original: that "jinja" and "shrine" aren't exactly the same thing. It would be still be a questionable translation choice, since translations are supposed to read smoothly and not make the readers look up footnotes to understand what the heck some foreign word 95% of people are unfamiliar with means.
But their excuse could have been a lot better than "hey, Japanese places have Japanese names, you xenophobic customers!"

Happy that they've finally confirmed they're doing the Sailor V Eternal Editions, but that tweet is kind of wonky since Minako *is* Sailor Venus in that manga (hence the "Codename" part of "Codename Sailor V"). Oh well. I hope they're getting new people to translate them.
Nope, still the Nibley twins who did the other Eternal Editions. They admitted it on their Livejournal.

NOTICE: Check you bank/CC statements, as a charge from Amazon was made for Eternal Edition 8. It may look like it'll ship one week earlier than the planned April 21st release date.

Brazilian publisher JBC had amnounced the first volume of the Eternal Edition for last December, but they just said they are still having trouble with approvals with the folks at PNP (Naoko's company). They are insisting on some specific color that Brazilian printing factories don't work with. LOL

Oh geez, talk about fussy. Why does it matter to them so much what the Brazilian one looks like, so long as the Brazilian fans are happy? That's what's supposed to count. ._. I swear, this is the only series that has these sorts of problems to this extent, they need to learn to chill. lol

As I stated before, PNP's approach to smaller markets that don't generate the income they expect is "do exactly how we want, or there's no Sailor Moon for you." That's sad, but that's what JBC's former editor-in-chief told Brazilian moonies.

It is sad, because it's at the expense of fans. Considering the series is all about love and friendship it's a shame to see that sort of attitude. :/ It's almost like if you're not a Japanese person, you have to fight to enjoy her series, which is just crazy.

Hopefully some sort of agreement can be made so Brazil can get the manga too.
The shinsouban sold like hot cakes here back in 2014, that's why they are trying so hard to get the Eternal Edition. I hope they don't give up this time as well, because Naoko seems to be a lot more picky with the kanzenban than she was with the International release of the 2004 edition.
I remember some years ago, some members in this forum were ranting a lot about how Naoko was "misjudged" by fans.
Well, considering about how many international companies, mainly from smaller countries or markets, have blamed her for having serious trouble in releasing her work, both in anime and manga forms, I dare to say she could be worse than we used to speculate. Maybe she goes beyond greedy, her attitude towards international markets may suggest she is a xenophobe. But still, that's just me speculating. She's always been a pretty private person, so we'll probably never know what goes into her mind.

To be honest her attitude towards foreign markets have made me suspect she's xenophobic if not outright racist for a while now, and this sort of thing just makes me suspect it even more. But as you said, it's just speculation, as none of us know her in person and can't know for sure.

Still though. When you can't help having the mindset of "take that Takeuchi, I can enjoy your series whether you want me to or not" speaks volumes of how she's alienated the fanbase, even if she's not actually intending to. It could be as simple as she wants her creation to be a certain way and is just totally oblivious at how that can affect fans by preventing their country from licensing the series, but we don't know.

I tend to prefer to think there's an innocent explanation but after so many years it's doubtful XD ah well. I'm keeping the artist separate from the art, so I still enjoy the series regardless.

Really? We're accusing Naoko of being a bigot now? :|

She's an artist. There's nothing wrong with her wanting her art to be accurately reproduced. Why should she approve printings that aren't colored accurately? I love how this fandom will eviscerate dubs for being inaccurate and then attempt to crucify Naoko for not wanting her work to be reproduced inaccurately.

It would be great if PNP were more lenient and understanding when working with companies in smaller markets that maybe haven't the same kind of resources as, say, an American company, but that comes down to poor business sense, not xenophobia or hatred of fans.
