The whole shoujo/shounen thing is very weird and makes no sense at times as it is based on magazine that have the title published. Sometimes for some odd reason there are shows that published by a magazine that don't usually print such titles and they fall in the wrong cathegory for some reason. I will give an example - After the rain. It is both aesthetically and thematically a shoujo/ jousei, whoever it was classified as seinen. I know it is a bit subjective, but this titles screams shoujo/ jousei to me - it is totally aimed aimed at girls and women ( hope you don't understand that the wrong way). The history knows other cases of pure shoujo titles that somehow end up in shounen magazines and are classified as shounen, despite being pure shoujo and vice versa - another perfect example is Kobato, . Sometimes it makes no sense... And to be honest, this whole shounen/shoujo separation is kind of unnecessary.

Sorry typos and bad phone filtering.Basically the original Cutie Honey was consider magical girl, but it was a shonen. So it was hear towards guys and not girls.
And it's interesting how this has evolved today with examples like Pretty Cure which is marketed towards young girls but is very combat heavy like a shounen show.

Yeah. There is also cases of manga who wanted to be shonen, but these ended attracting a bigger female audience (like Kuroko no Basuke or Tokyo Revengers).

The line that divides Shoujo and Shounen isn't always clear. However, the extremes are still quite obvious. For example: It's unlikely a shonen with an harem will attract a big amount of female audience.

Because girls now want male lead stories that shojo magazines even serialize male led manga.

Any classification/categorization can be arbitrary when it falls on the "boundary" between classes/categories, because such "boundary" isn't sharply clear-cut & is actually a gradating "boundary zone," a so-called "grey area," in which one can't tell exactly where it begins or ends. And there can be intersections between classes/categories too, in which an item can belong to multiple classes/categories.

Maybe vice versa, too. XD

Will Sailor Moon ever get another film release? Dragon Ball new film debuted over here in the US on Thursday and I am seeing it made about 10.8 million already.

The only thing I remember about Sailor Moon was when the R movie was released again here a couple of years ago and a friend and I went to the movies and saw it and got a Sailor Venus card. I don't remember if the S and SuperS were in the theaters but I remember the R movie being released in some American theaters. I have no idea how much it made but I wish Eternal and Cosmos had big screen releases here too.

I never knew about this. Which ones got canceled and why?
Original: TV executives had an issue with all the nudity. Though apparently the original plan was 26 episodes.
New Cutey Honey: Production company went bankrupt (evident in the last episode)
Cutey Honey Flash: Technically canceled? It got a 39 episode run, which is great, but Toei apparently wanted it to be a long running series.

You mean over 100 or about 50 like their usual full year series they do?

I don’t know. All I know is the implication seems to be they wanted it to be their next Sailor Moon but obviously it wasn’t.
As much as I adore Cutie Honey Flash and will go to the grave defending it, they were def a bit delusional for thinking it would be. Fantastic characters and story, but there wasn't really much to appeal to the main demo there...

I finished watching CHF yesterday, the movie included, and it was very enjoyable. I think some aspects were better, some worse compared with the Sailor Moon anime. SM has more memorable characters, I didn‘t really care about Natsuko at all. The MofD in CHF are more interesting and have more individual personalities. I also thought the TV anime of CHF looks better then the movie.

Oh I adore Natsuko, I felt like her friendship with Honey was wonderfully developed.

It’s a bit unfair to compare Sailor Moon and Cutie Honey Flash since the former is meant to be an ensemble show, while the other is a solo heroine show with very different leads.

CHF’s Honey really does feel like she was influenced by Manga!Usagi and/or Manga!Minako. The fact the last two episodes felt like a more accurate adaptation of the final acts of the Stars manga in spirit than the actual last episode of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars is so funny to me.

TBH I also don’t think Honey works as a longer series. Like 39 episodes is probably the max for Honey’s story.
