She can't make a good good atmospheres. I hate how all the important scenes with her just look like regular ones.
I'm not talking about atmospheres but her style as a director. Crystal III and Eternal (especially Eternal) has acceptable environmental expressiveness, I mean the way light and shades are handled, how the sound is placed, the use of the effects, quite the standard of today's anime. We can't say the same about Munehisa Sakai's Sailor Moon. Anyone can see he was not used to shojo, just shonen.

Is Chiaki Kon's Sailor Moon generic? Yes indeed. The 90's anime has better art, better backgrounds, sounds, effects, animation, soundtrack, expressiveness at every level. But don't take the merits off Chiaki. At least she's done something.

Stars arc is the most shonen of SM...
Well it is not shounen, like at all. I don't like shounen style designs, but some shounen animation director for the attacks would be nice and I hope they will try some real-time attacks because Usagi will be killing someone every 5 minutes and if they do stock footage - this will be a joke.

I want elaborate fighting sequences to be the centerpiece of the movie SO. BADLYYYYY

It's ironic most of its fillers' action is centered around comedy. Sailor Arcade and Sailor Amuse were the only Phages that actually took their roles seriously. SuperS still had better filler episodes.

At least this time Sailor Aluminum Siren will get a proper Galactica Tsunami in 2025. :googly:

I’m definitely not getting my hopes up for Stars. I’ll probably be more hyped when they start teasing stuff but at the moment I’m very ambivalent about the whole thing. Of course I made it this far so I won’t not watch it but after the Eternal movies I’m cautious.

Anyone who expects a left field work of art from Stars are just deluding themselves. We will most likely get a serviceable ‘adaptation’ (1:1) from Ms. Kon and if we are lucky we will get something akin to what we saw in Eternal part 1 in terms of animation. I definitely to not expect them to take any stylistic risks or expand or the original material, even though the story in Stars is begging for some kind of Madoka level treatment. Seriously, the story in the manga is a mess but it has the potential to be amazing with the right team, just a shame it probably won’t realise its true potential.

Sorry if this sounded salty but I guess I am :P

*cackles in Toei*
Toei: Thank you for giving us an excellent idea to save time & money, & by virtue of that, the Stars movie can now be out way much sooner in just a few years' time - we know it's always beneficial to visit fan sites, as that often leads to a win-win for both our dear fans & us! :keke:

Yesterday I read the whole plot, act by act, of the Stars arc and the idea of getting "soon" an animated version of it excited me. I really like the journey to deep space and how the saga expands its universe.

Toei could really give this mess of a reboot a reconciliatory end and market it as "the season that never got a movie finally does" delivering "the true finale" of the Stars arc.

I hope for a step up in terms of character design, animation and screenplay.

Was Eternal a big hit internationally? How will that influence the next/final installment? Could Netflix support the production?

I don't know how I feel about potential licensor from the US being part of the production cometee. On one hand this might result in a better budget and more care put on the show, but on the other the potential of some censorship going on is also possible. They were not part of the production of Eternal, and we all know they have helped produced some dark/horror shows but they have some data about the potential viewers now and if they decide the darker stuff of Stars are not marketable enough... It will be once again a watered down version.

Yes, it was a big hit and entered the Top 10 of dozens of countries.
And there's no reason to think Netflix would censor stuff when they didn't even market Eternal as being for kids. It got the "anime for adults" treatment, it was dubbed in like 10 languages and a lot of countries streamed it with subtitles only.
I guess you are right. And it is obviously successful on Netflix. It was the right thing to do. I mean in my small country in which anime is not a thing and Sailor Moon has never been aired and popular had it in top 10 for two weeks. I actually love the Netflix release because it is available for me legally, impossible otherwise. I guess Netflix might already be in the talks of it as they also got the rest of the show.

It looks so fun and lively but is it me or does it look sloppily drawn or something like that. There's not much emphasis on detail. Lots of swift camera movements but no elegance or anything to it. I still like the action in this though. It keeps you engaged in the moment of battle better.

5 years for Stars to have exagerrated close up frames and storyboard numbers during Moon Eternal Make Up.

Speaking of which, I wonder if it will be a complete retrace or will they add something a little new to it?

It depends on the director and the designs, but I believe it will be the usual drill, retrace everyone but Moon and Venus.
