Dark Kingdom - Crystal
Black Moon - Crystal
Infinity - Crystal

Woops. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As much as the Dark Kingdom had writing hiccups (or disasters) I loved it because of not only the memories it has given me (eagerly awaiting the next DK episode with popcorn in hand) but because they characterised characters I love (the Shitennou) much better than they did in the 90s. In the 90s they were creepy guys who worked for an evil queen. In Crystal they were fleshed out a bit more with implied personalities, with the impending mission of protecting their Prince in the background. That was special to me, regardless of it's overall quality.

Black Moon, well I mean, I was never personally into R much during the 90s anyway. I wasn't very fond of how they characterised Black Lady, and Demande was unnecessarily creepy. Again, in Crystal their characterisations were alot better, as was the overall story.

Infinity, although I can't make an exact judgement yet, so far I've enjoyed watching Infinity so much that I don't doubt that Crystal's version will end up being my favourite. I loved S back in the 90s anime, but the filler and some of the weird daimon were enough for it to not be perfect for me. Plus Saturn's characterisation was a no no also.

The thing is I like aspects of both adaptations. I'd like a nice mix but I'm more realistic in believing such a thing will only exist in fan fiction. I do like a MOTW formula from 90s, but I enjoy the emotional developments of the heroes from Crystal.

I prefer the infinity arc (in both the manga and crystal) over the sailor moon super arc in the anime. Aside from hotaru/saturn I did not care for any of the outers in the 90s and I found the pure heart crystal stuff annoying

I also didn't like superS so I'm looking forward to seeing Crystal adapt the dream arc from the manga

That being said I definitely prefer the 90s anime. I thought it had a better story on the most part and that it actually gave important character development for heroes and villains. Most of the manga villains are indistinguishable in terms of personality rather are just shown as being evil with no other real characteristics. That being said the manga also has it's strong points that are superior to the 90s anime as well.

Also I do like PGSM but I definitely think it would have done better as say another anime. That way we could have the great character development of PGSM and it could have been the second animated series. I would have loved to see how PGSM did the latter arcs. I am sure they would have been awesome.
Well, the Character Development in the Classic anime wasn't all that great, to tell the truth.

I prefer some parts in Crystal over the original but still, 90s is more outstanding! Crystal s1 was epic flop in terms of value and quality then s2 is a little better but still have duck faces (srsly look at the art lol!

I like Crystal Ami being cool and collected and Usagi having more growth throughout the series.
But I dislike manga/crystal Venus because of her boring and serious attitude yet crazy civilian personality?? (She's not funny in Crystal comedy but 90s she was).

I love the Outers in here way more than the 90s mainly because its following the manga structure so well plus Pluto has way more screen time than ever!
Storyboards from 90s was so unique and traditional that Crystal could not match. E.g. look at the gorgeous final eps from each season compared to Crystal which is just copying manga panels like almost every anime do nowadays...

90s music all the way! Crystal s3 is stepping up though.

I love both the '92 anime and Crystal, however, needs to be some sort of middle ground/balance, in terms of the pace. The 90's anime had so-so Character Development, in my own honest opinion. The anime staff at least tried their best to add more dimension to characters, due to having a large cast. Now for Crystal, I love seeing things from the manga animated which the classic anime cut out entirely, like the Taioron Crystal, for example.

This underscores the point I made earlier in the thread that the 90s anime does not necessarily have "better" character development than the manga and Crystal, but the manga and Crystal choose to focus on different characters than the 90s show did. The 90s show chose to focus more on goofy side stories with the Inners, Naru and Umino, and introduced some original anime only characters. On the other hand, I personally feel like the Crystal and the manga do a much better job of developing Usagi, Mamoru, Chibi-Usa, and Setsuna, and season three so far has been doing as good of job as the 90s show with the Inners.
But I think it is an exaggeration to argue the 90s anime had more or better character development when really both versions have about the same amount, but each version chooses to focus on different sets of characters, and which one you like more is purely subjective. I think I would have less of an issue with the 90s anime if they had more "filler ins" like those arcs and less ones where it's all "Hey, let's go see Usagi try to lose weight and make fun of her for doing it for 30 min."
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I completely agree with you.

I found the manga telling of the Dark Kingdom arc to be just all right in all honesty, and I didn't like how the guardian senshi weren't directly involved in the denouement. Which is why I'll always prefer the classic anime's version of that arc over Crystal.

However, R vs SMCS2... well, SMC wins only because I guess I never really cared about R except for the Makaiju filler oddly enough, episodes 68 and 69 (Luna's speech to Mamoru was great), and the Ayakashi Sisters. Plus Pluto was better developed in SMC and makes up for thin role in the old series.

As for the ongoing character development arguments... well, the old anime used episodic and slice-of-life storytelling to flesh out characters a lot of the time. Most of the anime released during that time that I watched did that, too. In Crystal, the character development is there, just more sparse. Unless it's Usagi, Chibiusa, Pluto, or Mamoru. Even Luna was better developed than Rei, Ami, and Minako for the first season. Makoto had her sad stories in S1&S2 so she was the best developed of the four guardians. Other than Makoto's subplot in the most recent SMC episode, I guess I'm failing to see significant character development for the other three girls. Ami threw a pencil at a camera and dove into a pool, but that just seemed more action oriented storytelling than anything contributing to her character's growth. They didn't even return to her subplot in the end of the story as it was all about Haruka and Michiru again. Anyway. Rei and co. definitely have personalities in SMC. I just struggle to say what those are at times because of the tightness to the story and the lack of time to give them the attention they truly deserve. Or I'm just piecing their personalities together based on the old anime and anything loss in translation from manga to television. If the show is going to be so neck-and-neck with the manga pacing wise, then yeah, it's to be expected. If each arc was longer, then I imagine the supporting characters would be more developed. I think the overall Infinity story (which I personally find to be more interesting than the DK and BM arcs) and better action/animation quality in S3 is all helping us gloss over this flaw.

I agree with this also .

Also this is my oppinion, why I feel the minor villians of manga/crystal were more developed in the classic anime (Well some of them, not all)I feel the main villains had more depth , and little more back ground . Like Meterria,Beryl,Death Fantom, and other main villains .

LOL, no.
Except for this season, which I consider to be generally better than its 90's counterpart, so far.
But as a whole, the quality peak that the 90's anime had (certain scenes/episodes) is still high above Crystal.

I can understand preferring the manga to the 90’s anime, especially those who like a more plot/lore driven narrative and prefer certain characters over others. Edgelords might also prefer the manga because it’s “darker” and more “serious/bleak” than the 90’s anime, but preferring Crystal itself over any other iteration of Sailor Moon doesn’t make sense to me.

It’s just a cheap inferior copy of the manga, absolutely creatively bankrupt that more often than not makes alot of the few changes it does have for the worse and cuts out alot of what makes the manga so appealing in the first place. (It’s gruesome horror elements and little scenes/panels that help characterize the Inners more)

It’s only surviving on the novelty of seeing the manga in animated form (and sometimes it’s not good at even that, see the laughably bad animation in the DK arc) and that’s it.
