Plot Twist: Princess Kakyuu is the mother of Cyprine and Ptilol when she was crashed to Earth decades ago and took on the alias "Hiroko Kuroba." She then went into hiding when she learned she didn't age but her children would, leaving them to be manipulated by the mad Dr. Tomoe.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I only read the Lethe fight in the manga and dropped Stars early on, so I never knew too much about Kakyuu outside of her power level. Reminds me of a certain visual novel with the word "Ever" in its title....

Another person has told me that this is more of a theory. Does she ever find out when she returns in Stars?

What am I even supposed to be seeing here. They both have clover jewelry?
Like mother, like daughter. It warms my heart good whenever people refer to Cyprine/Ptilol as one person. That's how you know you're with real fans.

In all seriousness, we could go on and on besides Kakyuu being her mother. Cyprine's truly one of the most interesting friends in the show.

We're dealing with a woman who was already elaborately planning out the Mugen attack and sending students to the school before Tomoe even spoke to her. She was talking about needing pure hearts "daishikyuu" while he was watching Mistress 9 waste away. Setting up all the heart-stealing statues for Mistress 9 in advance, setting up the room trap, baiting Usagi's group into coming at night when there'd be no reason for visitors to show up. If only Viluy'd told her about Uranus and Neptune being traitors, since they blended in. But honestly, what were they going to do?

Using Eudial's flying magic (idk how Eudial died when she could fly/teleport, but that's new writers for you), using Mimete's staff better than her (and two staves, at the same time...), using the dimension magic from Mimete with U-Ikasaman, storing hearts in the stars like Tellu...Cyprine taught herself all of this.

...you know, the Witches 5 don't have much development as a whole, but you can glean some induction from them if you look closely enough.

1. You see Viluy studying something "nano-" under a microscope...which she'll later finish.
2. You see Tellu/Mimete working together to power Eudial's daimon machine...except as we pointed out in another post, Tellu's the main one who really cares about Eudial, and she eagerly killed Mimete over entirely Eudial. (That "Youzeiaru" on Eudial's locker is just a bad romanization.)
3. You see Cyprine experimenting on rats who have the same abnormally colored eyes as Ptilol.

So, though we don't get too much, we get enough. Tellu was shown making her Tellun plants in her episode, and Mimete was just a weaker, lazier version of Cyprine who never did anything special but wanted all the prestige. Cyprine suddenly tells Tomoe she's the "last and greatest" of the Witches 5 at the very end--while still saying "Witches 5". And more, she still calls Kaori "Kaolinite-sama". It indicates she wants to personally impress Tomoe with her skills more than usurp Kaori's position as the so-called #2 to Tomoe. And her heart-saluting Tomoe then standing neutrally as Tomoe holds her shoulders, it indicates that unlike Kaori's jealous ass not doing anything to help Tomoe/Mistress 9 (hence, "I'm rather different from Kaolinite-sama"), she's not actually infatuated with him. In fact, none of the witches are. As she says, she's doing everything for the "Death Busters," which includes Kaori. She views Kaori as both her superior and as Tomoe's woman who's lost her passion to help them. But Kaori thinks some random teenager cares that much about that old man. From Viluy to now this, Kaori is officially depraved, and Cyprine--who'd only mentioned Kaori because she didn't see her--only cares about showing she's reliable.

I like this, because it means a solitary kid trying to prove herself was essentially the final boss of the "apocalyptic" season. All Moon did afterwards was revive Saturn after Saturn beat Pharaoh 90 up. Then she styled on Uranus and Neptune in a joke fight. This was the last time our team was in danger, in battle.

It's a bit of a tragedy too...Cyprine-chan stayed back and took notes from everyone, then quietly set her plan up and did basically everything right, even absorbing the Shabon Spray attacks and not caring--up until she bragged a bit too much, they hit her from behind, and it became, "How dare you peasants touch me!" Very dumb...because their next real attack cleared the mist anyway. And because she had the easiest chance of just quitting the fight and delivering the pure hearts, leaving the inners trapped and the outers unable to rescue anyone.

But if she'd kept playing around with those weaker blasts and not caring, she would've pelted the girls to death. Or if she'd taken the fight serious from the start and just had Ptilol blast the others from offscreen, she'd have erased them. But her hubris led her to literally lose sight of herself, and she blew herself to vapors. Before realizing her cloning was unethical, I'd always wanted Usagi or someone to try mastering it for themselves. Would've been handy.

Yeah I seriously doubt they are related. Crystal actually showed the Witches 5 being grown in the lab

My people, I want strong character analysis. No one had ever made the ('90s anime/manga settei) visual clover/olive connection before this post, which is why I pointed it out. And since people have complained about Cyprine barely having screen time, I wrote two pages on her.

So, no. This definitely wasn't a "joke" thread. But that doesn't mean you have to take it seriously.

Did someone say "Kid?" (note: I hope you're in light mode.)

I mean I could have a field day with "Kuroba/Clover" jokes and puns, but then I'd have to bring up Cloverfield and it suddenly won't be any fun any more.

I mean in answer to the original question, the clover motif for Kakyuu is intentional, but it's not quite clear whether the anime added clover earrings to the "twins" because it misinterpreted the circular earrings, or if as some of the art shows, the pair were supposed to have four-lobed earrings but it got changed the fewer lobes in the actual manga panels.
