Really interesting how times have changed a little bit since we've now have LGBTQIA+ characters in Disney films or such in regular cartoons. However, I can totally understand them censoring what they did in that time.l even though all they had to do was make it seem like they were close friends and remove any "suggestive" scenes. The cousin thing was crazy. Odd as well considering they didn't go out of their way to alter Naru and Nephrite thing as much. But I guess at least they didn't show that creepy scene if him searching through her pajamas for the crystal.

I'm glad the Uranus and Neptune issues was fixed tho despite things still being a mess.

I believe there was even a huge deal about gay characters in Beauty and the Beast and most recently Lightyear that had the latter scenes removed, altered, or banned outright in some countries. You would expect people to lighten up after so long but nope.

If we're being honest, Uranus/Neptune and Zoycite/Malachite aside, the show mocks these groups almost as much as it uplifts them.
When were Demande/Saphir or Fiore ever mocked? The Starlights? That one gay victim of the day couple in SuperS? Even most of the Inners have their bi moments (Usagi, Rei, Ami and Mako) and I never got the feeling they were being mocked.

About the only queer character you can accurately apply this to is Fish-Eye, yet for all their transphobic mocking even they fared the best in the end characterization wise of the Amazon Trio.

In fact I felt the straight villains were more often than not mocked way more than any of the queer ones. Esmeraude, Mimette, Tigers-Eye and Hawks-Eye were just one big mockery every time they were on screen.

I'm being hyperbolic, sorry. I meant, it mocks the LG (from what I remember). Fiore was a movie, and I admittedly didn't even know the other two were into each other. I haven't seen R in almost a decade

Well, that's the thing. People don't talk bout Esmeraude, Mimette, Tigers-Eye and Hawks-Eye's straightness when they review their characters. So it's never the issue to address

And in both cases they were both blink and miss it moments. Didn't stop conservatives from freaking the [BLEEP] out

Now imagine a kid show in 2000 trying get away with a lesbian couple on tv

Okay, I'm wondering what happened to this forum where people who liked or defended any aspect of the dub were thrown into the pit.

Like, you're being largely reasonable and acknowledging there are positive and negatives instead of bashing to bash and disagreeing respectfully.

I'm not complaining. Just...puzzled and waiting for the other shoe to drop.

They fled to Reddit

Not having really watched the dub nor sub, I'm in no position to comment here, but w/e your arguments, pls water down the tone of your posts here guys - some of them have already been bordering insults & personal attacks.
Funny thing if you mean me as well, I heard similar from Redditors (when I insulted Reddit on Reddit) and you know, I really shouldn't be making distinctions cause it's all the same case here, a ton of different people on specialized forums, dedicated to a topic they care about.

What will forever not make sense to me however is people getting confrontative over who prefers whatever version of a cartoon. Eg, got negged there for posting the same transcript you see in the first post here. Then another dude rightfully told me to "always agree".

So people there even, they know what's up. If you understand both languages and feel I made a transcription error then sure. But otherwise, I'm getting downvoted for translating the thing and having a preference. It's obviously not everybody, just like it's obviously not every American though, and it's understandable people would tie their identities into Reddit like I do with being an American......though I really shouldn't :minako:

I will say some of the worst people when it came to any positive reactions to the Canadian dub seemed to have abandoned this forum a while ago.

I do remember when liking the 90s dub (not even better than the Japanese version! Just on its own terms!) was considered blasphemy and cause some fans to have a meltdown.

Maybe its absence makes the heart grow fonder?

You can get into trouble in some of the Discord servers too. You'll meet all different types of bullies depending on the type of narcissist who they are or who they hang with. It was the first time I encountered a communal covert narcissist too.

So far most of the ones I encounter have Histrionic Personality Disorder (that or may be bipolar) and they love to use their friends as flying monkeys. The worst one I encountered was a server owner in an MBTI server of all things. When these toxic people have full control you just got to leave.:kero:

I think this forum had that type of bullying when nangbaby was around. She kinda liked the dub, but was heavily criticized by MissDream/Elly
For me, I like watching anime dubbed. It’s something I can watch in the background and I can chat with friends.

I didn’t like CWI dub in S and SuperS because Serena’s voice sounded way too old for her age. It was basically Granny Moon to me.

I do have the Viz dub and Viz Manga translation. Still might make time to watch it, despite gaming and reading manga.

I am a huge fan of the old dub, I do know that the sub would be better in a lot of places. But the dic dub just seems so entertaining to me, the viz dub not so much. I watch the first season of Sailor Moon from the Viz dub, but I still enjoy the acting in the old dub better than the new one. I have not seen r, s and super s yet <.<'

Yes as someone with a short attention span, dubs are easier for me to consume as it doesn't require full attention to the screen.

I agree she did sound too old and unnatural but I wouldn't go as far as saying she sounded like a granny. She got way better by mid-S and really outshone Sheh when it came to episode 125.

Why do I suddenly feel the need to make a Shonen Jump cover for the Sailor Moon manga?

nothing wrong with it, most of the dubs of anime we know that were mainstream popular in the 2000s had their manga counterparts translated by Viz, Sailor Moon's not on that (Manga by Viz) list even today (current translation's done by Kodansha USA, I think), but it sure should've been. :)

I do agree some of the VA are better than the Japanese, like Beryl. Chinese VA Wangxiao Yan is better on Usagi in my opinion.

But overall, the Japanese ones are better.
