Nah, it definitely wasn't intentional. Shows like that can ruin the reputations of the animators, too. In fact, there's a lot of instances where animators ask for their names to be removed from the credits because of how displeased they are with the end result of their work.
There are also instances where corrections can cause issues. See Tadayoshi Yamamuro for DBZ Resurrection F

Oh yeah, when he completely redid Hisashi Eguchi's work. That was such a shame. I'm mostly just familiar with Eguchi's work on things like the Sonic CD animations, but I was always in awe of his amazing, expressive, high-speed style.
You make a really good point. A good animation director needs to know what *not* to correct, too. Especially when the key animator is already extremely skilled. Otherwise the scene will lose all of the original animator's personality, becoming stiff and lifeless in the worst case scenarios.

I think they should do a version of this with the outers and all of the Solar Sailor Senshi with the eternal outfits, which I imagine was their original plan during the final battle of Sailor Moon with Galaxia before they scrapped their original plans to the plot that we got.

The problem with Crystal S1&2's animation was that Toei had stretched their talent pool incredibly thin with a million different projects at the time (it's actually been a problem with the entire industry since the mid-2000's, really), the schedule didn't allow the staff time to actually properly draw everything, there's a ton of outsourcing to other studios with less experienced animators under an equal amount of crunch, and there's a ton of difficulties in constantly communicating with a bunch of different studios under said tight schedule.
Combine that with extremely intricate and unconventional designs and you have a recipe for disaster.

Drawing takes time, and drawing designs like Sako's takes even more time. Even that infamous episode of Dragon Ball Super had extremely skilled veterans like Ken Otsuka working on it, but the vast majority of people simply can't draw as fast as studios are demanding these days. People blame the budget a lot, but no amount of money is going to fix a terrible production schedule caused by the need to go work on even more shows. Super actually had a very large budget in order to pump out all those episodes in such a short time, iirc. It's sort of like giving Leonardo Da Vinci a billion dollars and telling him to make you The Last Supper in three minutes. You're only gonna get stick figures at that point.

Nobody wants their work to look as ugly as it ended up being, but when you have thousands of other drawings to work on in a short period of time, and/or you're a new animator who's still learning and honing your skills, you're pretty much forced to sketch something as fast as possible and hope the animation director has the time to fix it. Sadly, the animation directors were busy fixing tons of other things that probably looked even worse than the infamous Usagi and Rei scenes.

I can't argue with this! Drawing art does take time, I know because I'm an artist. As an artist, I spend more than one hour getting my pieces right.

Yeah, the season 1and 2 problem was down to bad schedule, it was rushed and way too ambitious design-wise for something they were so far behind they need to make bi monthly release. I still think they should have announced 13-14 episode initially and cover the Dark Kingdom only. And make it one season per year, so they can have enough time to make it work and make it consistent. Fixing the designs was also better idea than completely redo them every season....

Why didn't they just delay Crystal for another year? It's not like they have to release in 2014, because they're late with 20th anniversary (1992-2012) anyway.

The 25th anniversary could also have been a celebratable good anniversary year for releasing something new. :)

I think part of the issue was Crystal already being delayed a year. Remember Crystal was supposed to premiere in 2013. The same year we had a Dark Kingdom arc musical and new merchandise from S1 of the ‘90s anime being released. By the time Crystal premiered, the franchise was onto the second arc already and maybe that gave Toei/Bandai some urgency.

Imagine the next trailer surprising us with a big step-up in animation quality :wow:

Didn‘t they say voice acting is already done? Or am I confused? It‘s more then a half of a year until the premiere… what are they occupied with?
When do you think we might see a new trailer? I’m hoping for around Xmas.
My buggiest hope is that whatever the quality , that it’s consistent.

I honestly don‘t expect a new trailer this year.

Consistency would require 1 chief animation director that corrects every frame that deviates from Tadano’s designs. In the trailer we already saw that the best frames deviate from Tadano’s designs (Haruka+Michiru)….

I guess they are still working on part 2. It was weird they announced it so early though.

Can't wait till the announcement. We are finally approaching the end. A Sailor Moon series like we never seen before... I'm both sad and happy this will all finally be over. Finally...at least anime wise.

I am not complaining, just saying it is weird. I mean they usually waited ages to announce something and another couple of ages to actually show it.
If they don't wait ages to announce something & just only merely wait a couple of ages to actually show it, we at least can save the time of the former. P-:
