I don't remember anyone's sister groping them in Sailor Moon. Or sex scenes. Or nudity in every single episode but okay. Honestly, Cutey Honey Flash's sexual content is arguably more intense than the original anime.
Flash is probably the most plot driven of the anime adaptations. It has the most going on, and is probably the best written. Re: and Universe have a decent amount going on, but they both kind of fall on their face.

Yeah, Sailor Moon is pretty tame compared to Cutey Honey for sure.
There are a few hints of innuendo in SM (naked Mamoru, and Minako's line in Stars, "Adults love XX...."
However, you could argue that, although not as direct as Cutey Honey, lots of the female monsters in SM, (and depending on who you ask) had really perverted designs. Especially in S like Neko-Nell and especially U-Chouten. There was one in Stars who liked to show off her body in a perverted manner sorta. It was the episode where Yaten and Luna became pals for a while.

Isn't New Cutey Honey supposed to be a sequel to the '70s series? That's what every article about New Cutey Honey out there is saying. Then again, I heard there are a few retcons in it which prevent it from being canonical to the original. Do you know what those contradictions are? Was there ever confirmation from anyone on the New Cutey Honey crew about its supposed status as a continuation to the '70s show?

It's not canonical to the original manga or anime. The biggest contradiction is that Dr. Kisaragi's laboratory is still standing, despite the fact it was destroyed in the original versions. The Re: Cutie Honey audio drama also treats New Cutey Honey as being set in its own universe as well.
Re: Cutie Honey was once included in Toei's TV Animation Calendar shortly after it came out. It seems unlikely they would have an adult title included. You can argue Re: Cutie Honey was made for adult fans, but as far as I know it was never explicitly stated. New Cutey Honey had more adult content, and that was seemingly marketed to kids.
Cutie Honey Universe seemed to be made specifically for adult fans who grew up with the franchise. Kind of like what Toei has been doing with Sailor Moon Crystal, I guess.

The one with the laboratory is the biggest one for sure. The OVA also constantly references both the original manga and anime, which are two separate entities. I guess it would be like if somebody did a sequel to Sailor Moon that took place after the manga, but mentioned the Makaiju and Yuichirou or something.
In the Re: Cutie Honey OVA, the original, New, and Flash Honeys appear along side with Re: Cutie Honey. It's established that each Honey is from their own universe. It's not out right stated, but it's very implied original Honey and New Honey are not the same person.

I wonder why they decided to go with movies instead of continuing as a series like the first three arcs.
I was looking at showtimes at our Movie Tavern here and saw a Dragon Ball movie was playing in both English and Subbed in my state.
I haven't seen Dragon Ball in ages but I was curious and saw the plot involved something about the Red Ribbon army and surviving members and something else going on.
I was thinking that those dudes were around way back when it was just the old Dragon Ball as far as I remember.
Then I was thinking...I see why DB fans are mostly so satisfied. They are always expanding on the story and characters in some way. Bringing back old members or foes. DB is one of those series that really makes good use of its entire Universe.
The Sailor Moon Universe is big too but.....
I wonder if Cosmos is the end for us anime wise for a long time? I had assumed that they wanted to milk the series like how Toei does DB and Pretty Cure but that doesn't appear to be the case for now it seems.
I guess we'll have to wait 25+ more years so. I'll be in those senior years then....

I‘m still super impressed with Cutey Honey Flash. Toei really pulled it off back in the days. So many beautiful scenes! I‘m a bit confused though as it‘s targeted towards the Sailor Moon audience… little girls? CHF is very sexy (even more then SM) and I think the target audience is just not as easy to define as some people think it is. There‘s something for everybody to enjoy and I guess that‘s what makes it interesting to kids and adults at the same time. Just like 90s Sailor Moon.

The start of this debate was people saying Cute Honey being written for an adult audience means Sailor Moon could do that too.
However, magical girl genre isn't so popular between female adult audience (fans in this demographic are often people who grew with that franchise). Magica Girl genre tends to be geared towards a male audience.

When it premiered "older fans" dismissed it because they left it was too toned down but parents complained it wasn't toned down enough. Cutey Honey Flash made decent ratings, enough to warrant a full-feature film and a full year run. The ratings weren't good enough for it to become the next "Sailor Moon" and the toys didn't sell well either. I wouldn't say it was unpopular. A few Honey anime were canceled but it was never due to low ratings or popularity.
