Maybe my biggest problem with the franchise is that it everything focuses now on pretty and there’s almost no space for fun and silly. Crystal/Eternal had some “silly” moment, but let’s be honest, they weren’t really funny and seemed just like a try to make an hommage to the 90s for the sake of nostalgia.
Maybe the problem in general is the lack of expressiveness of the faces in general.
It would be so nice if Cosmos manages to make me laugh at least once. I want to be emotionally engaged and touched.
I feel like it's the new way of doing things right now.
The know-how of the time, whether it be the jokes, the drawings, everything has changed and I find that it has changed badly. The new screenwriters, the new designers don't know how to do funny scenes.
It doesn't seem natural. Look at Dragon Ball Super, everything rings false in this anime. The drawings, the mentality of the characters which has completely regressed since Dragon Ball Z, and the funny scenes are really not.
The Sailor Moon manga has some really good funny scenes but once animated in Sailor Moon Crystal, it sounds fake too. Badly drawn, the humor is gone.
A scene that I found funny in the manga, the arrival of Sailor Moon in front of Sailor Pluto, it was funny the remark on the parents of Chibiusa and in the anime it was rotten.
The 90 anime, for example, had good funny scenes well staged, I liked the strange heads, it reflected an era. You don't find that in recent anime anymore. And I think that's why the humor doesn't come across properly in new anime.
