Sailor Venus (semi-WiP)

Pretty glad with how this is turning out, for one of my actual drawings on my new tablet. Still, probably going to go back and fix some things. I think her eye might be too wide. Also forgot to shadow her nose. Her whole head might be a little wide actually. And just now noticing a bit of bleedover in the linework when I preview against a black backdrop, so I'll need to fix that eventually. But if everything else is okay, I guess I can get started on a background.

As for the context of what's going on... uh, well... think back to a certain episode of Hey Arnold!...

You really don't need to hide behind the official Key Animators (at least from my unprofessional POV). And don't forget that there were different, varying ways to portrait the characters on the show from episode to episode, so that there just isn't THE ultimate default style; for instance, if I try to draw 's face what comes out somehow reminds me a bit more of Ranma One-Half than of anything else (I just love it when they make those funny faces )

Part-OT: Is there any written law which says that boys/girls respectively must be drawn in a certain way in order to be accepted as a 'real' Anime/Manga? And why do escpecially girls all look so skinny and frail nowadays? Hoping readers won't deem them erotic?

@karasu_tomoe *lol* Well, characters switching roles/cosplaying as each other to confuse the bad guys will actually be part of the plot in at least one upcoming episode for me.

It's always been more of a principle thing with me personally. Nothing against drawing with one's own original style, but for my typical picky target audience (which usually includes myself) I try to emulate the established art style as best I can, otherwise it just comes off as some random character cosplaying as the character I was trying to draw. :/ Maybe it's just a closed-minded quirk of mine, but hey...

And yeah, I do notice the changes in the style, especially in between seasons.

UPDATE: Got pretty much a finished piece now. I got pretty lazy with the background, so any thoughts on that would be nice.

Wow, this is one awesome piece! You chose a very difficult (and unique) perspective, one that requires her hand and forearms to be just right on, and you nailed it. This is absolutely more daring in terms of POV than most Sailor Moon art, fan or official. At the same time, this captures Sailor Venus just right in personality.

Well, it's supposed to be Minako's bedroom. I was talking more along the lines of decorations, props, and whatnot.

Wow, not even sure what to say, other than thank you so much! I do put a lot of practice and effort into pieces like these, and honestly the whole process gets hairpulling at times, but knowing the effort is ultimately paying off is the biggest joy I could hope for!
