Because they arent, which is why I compared it with Mars Snake Fire which was only used in the Crystal series, and in the manga (though it appears in the 90's S opening, it was never used as an actual attack). If Sharbo Spray Freezing, Fire Soul Bird and the other attacks were a part of the actual Crystal story, they would have appeared in Crystal's anime, and Mars would have had both, Fire Soul Bird and Mars Snake Fire as attacks.
Let me reiterate: can't we just see the original anime, manga and Crystal as their own canons and universes, not just Crystal as canon? :|

And whilst people can prefer it to the original anime, Crystal is not the end-all, be-all of the Sailor Moon franchise.

Sure as it is not entierly canon to the manga. For me the original virsion is the thing that can be called like this - tge manga. The old anime is separated so much that I consider different universe with a different cannon. Crystal, as muh as I like it, is actually the odd one. But Eternal dos have potential. If successful these films might change the game. Still I find this og/Crystal wars pointless. Each one of us has a versuon closer to their heart and nobody is robbing you for whatever you crave. Crystal doesn't erase the og, neither is any other remake to any other title. We are so lucky to have so many ways to experience our favorite franchise - from anime, to manga, to musical, live-action and even novels. We might prefer one over the other but we can respect all of them and consider them all different cannon. It hurts nobody.
Spaking of the attacks, I think Crystal should have tried to recreate the ones from the S opening as they were so good yet unrealised. :( The mor I think about it the more I think the double transformation might be used as nostalgia pool, and we might actually get original separate sequences.

I'm going to be honest, I love PGSM and the manga. I'm slowly warming up to Sera Myu, the Nelke productions are wonderful. I started with Nogizaka46 Team Moon performance, I want to see more. There are aspects of the 90's anime I *do* appreciate even though it's not really my favorite iteration of the series/franchise. I kind of prefer Crystal over the 90's anime. Every incarnation has amazing music save for the manga. That said, I can't wait to see the movies!

I've seen a lot of people complain about the thinner lines in Eternal, but I really like how it lets them get fine details in there. The thumbnail of Sailor Mars' face in that video alone is quite pretty to look at.

The only Sailor Moon medium I haven't given a chance yet are the musicals, but I'm not big into musicals. I like everything else. As far as I'm concerned, the manga, anime (90s), anime (10-20's), games, and PGSM all have their strengths and weaknesses. That being said, I'm looking forward to Eternal.

I haven't had a chance to comment on the recent trailer when it was released since I was on vacation, but I was kinda blown away by how good a lot of the animation looked. Like the scenes from Mercury Dream were a literal *chef's kiss* moment. It also confirmed for me that the strongest thing about these designs, and probably why they brought in Tadano in the first place, is how beautiful and expressive the eyes are:

I'm glad the animation (while still limited in many ways despite being a movie) are highlighting the strongest aspect of the design and also what makes Sailor Moon's style so recognizable in the first place. It really should not have taken them the fourth arc for them to get this right, but thank god they finally did.

The trailer honestly restored some faith I have in this movie as some of the prerelease material was looking sketchy.

The eyes have always been something interesting. There was a scene in the 90s anime where Nehellania gets upset and they show the expressive eyes of each senshi. The eyes for Eternal really do attract you. Usagi's eyes look really well done.

The eyes were the only thing I liked from the concept art they showed last year. The actual designs looked way better, but no it motion I really dig them.

I highly doubt a theatrical release outside Japan/East-Asia. Animation only gets regularly in cinemas in the West when it‘s a high budget production from Disney, Miyazaki etc...
They played all 3 Sailor Moon movies in theatres in the U.S. a couple of years ago.

That was before the coronavirus pandemic.

When most blockbuster films aren't being released and the threat of bankruptcy looms over theaters, it's hard to justify the cost of a release when the audience simply will not venture out, even if you could guarantee safety (and they can't).

To be fair, I could be wrong, as the economics for niche releases like anime movies may paradoxically become more favorable if no one is going to the theater anyway...but I doubt it.

Besides, I'm not planning on going to a theater any time soon.

I agree, but it's always annoying whenever I see people claim the manga version is the only true canon.

Lol, lol, lol. Do you think we are getting it via stream? Or another lucky country is getting a cinema release... So jealous.
Remember that Brazil, despite having a highly active fanbase, is one of the countries where the Sailor Moon anime received one of the poorest financial returns in merchandise. It's one of the only countries in Latin America which hasn't gotten a TV rerelase since the 20th anniversary.
If Brazil is getting a dub in the makings even before the movies hit Japan, it's probably because a huge international streaming company plans to release simuldubs. I don't see any platform other than NETFLIX doing that.

Brazil & Mexico would give any Sailor Moon movie a theatrical release, but I am not sure if movie theaters in both countries are functioning due to the pandemic.

@Tuxedo Kevin
I don't think that applies to Brazil, as I said in my previous comment. I'm aware you were a child in Brazil when Sailor Moon took TV by storm, but the ratings took a nosedive due to countless re-airings of the first season and the toys failed to sell.
But answering your question, select theaters are open here.
