People still dont get that there’s a cinema run in japan for Part 1 and Part 2. Toei is a company that wants to make money so of course if they decided to put the movie in cinemas is because they want to take the most money posible from it. Putting the movie on netflix right now with the japanese goverment saying try to stay at home would produce Toei and cinema exhibitors to lose all this money they could make from cinema tickets.
And I read a lot of fans saying: This way not putting it on Netflix Japan they are losing money. Why? They want first to make money from cinema tickets. Once this way is finished, thet will carry the other ways planned: make money from the Netflix service agreement and then from the dvd/blu ray sales. All this cases speaking only from Japan. It is a distribution chain that each of them will give them different amounts of money.
If they wanted to release it on streaming services like Digimon Tri that was premiered on cinemas the same day as on streaming they would have made produced only a few copies from cinema and would have reduced the cinema investment in advertising they have made in Japan which has been pretty big ( they are already doing it with Part 2, the metro has lots of posters, walls, and screens with the trailer ).
So Im pretty sure ( I could be wrong of course ) they are waiting for the cinema run to end to have the streaming available.
Believing the movies would be day 1 on Netflix worlwide was too optimistic. People got carried away too much for the hype of the leaked netflix voice actors.

Well it really depends if due to COVID theatres are not going to close down also in Japan (maybe in the next few days).In this case I strongly doubt they will again push back part 2 for the release.
Furthermore, if you check the trend in Western countries, this year big companies like WB already said that they will release ALL of their movies in Theaters and in Streaming at the same times. So it's possible that TOEI follow the trend (?).
Anyway we just have to be a bit patient, with the actual situation things can change so fast... I'm sure we'll get informations very soon.

Not all of Japan is under the state of emergency. It's only the most crowded cities that are under the state of Emergency. Where I am it's business as usual for the most part - right now there are in the region of 20 - 30 cases per day confined to well known clusters which I'm hoping is going to tail off once the fall out from new year is over.
Even with the state of emergency the movie theatres are stil operating they are just being forced to close early.

Japan has got bitten by reverse importation and they know how easy it is for someone to setup a VPN so (but I can be very much proven wrong) is that the streaming release for part 1 will be after February 11th OR after the blu-rays are out.
With Carole and Tuesday - Part 2 was released to Netflix worldwide just before the part 2 blu-rays got released so they will have got their preorders in by that point.

Asiatic numbers of coronavirus are very low compared to the Western Countries. Any of them have the numbers we have right now at our countries ( USA, Europe, etc ). Also lockdown in Japan is very different compared to the ones we have had in Europe for example.
In Spain we spent almost 3 months locked on our homes, it was forbidden to get out if it was not for work or other major subjects. In Japan, its against the constitution to lock people at homes so they can do normal life. Most of the places are opened ( shops, shopping centres, restaurants, etc ) so the state alarm in Japan is nothing but a warning from the goverment to say to people to try to stay at their homes as much as they can.
Anyway, I dont think they will wait for the dvd/bluray to be released to put it on streaming services because that takes MONTHS. I remember the other Crystal seasons dvd didnt come out until months later the anime had ended. It is just too much time.

Yeah I think so too.
Regarding corona rules, it’s also again the constitution to lock people home in Europe or in US... but you have in lot of countries (like Austria, France...) martial laws in case of pandemic.. I don’t know for Japan but with this new mutated virus coming from UK I think we can only prey it stay that way in Japan. But the figures exploded last week.

Is that surprising though? Based on how Netflix announces its anime and when it's released, it seems like we won't be seeing these movies until maybe the Summer, if not later.

Nope doesn't surprise me I had just finished work as the trailer aired so reporting for the benefit of others.
Peoles expectations re Netflix are way too high IMHO.
But then again like I said it doesn't bother me as I live in Japan (for now till COVID quietens down) - just trying to be helpful.

Oh another thing I've just thought of - just because it's been translated doesn't mean it's ready for release.
Other threads on this forum have ruminated at length about how Naoko / Toei / PNP have a tight grip on the franchise (approvals process for the Viz blu-rays comes to mind....) - if that is led to be true / the same for this you can bet your bottom dollar that all International versions will go through a stringent vetting process before they are OK'd by Japan and Netflix won't release stuff till everything is done even if that means parts of a localization have to be redone.
Even Discotek Media suffered long waits to get approvals on the Beautiful Dreamers movie.
Also one final note - if you do know someone who has first hand knowledge of the localization process I'd be careful about posting anything they tell you in confidence except in the most very general of terms. It wouldn't surprise me if Netflix people are watching this forum in the run up to whenever they release and if you post anything that can be traced back someone might be out of a job.

i dont think they will look at this i think they are more in social media like twitter, facebook etcetera and not in a forum, and i know i prefer not said something, because some people will publish it in the other social media, like the movie shots, they public them in other media i think they are in instagram now, even though i dont think they are paying much atention to this forum, but some people will post them in other places and they will get to the source and bad things will happen

This isn’t a situation where Netflix has an ownership- they’re not even on the credits. They’re just licensing it as an original and until Toei is done promoting their run, I doubt they’ll announce that it will be streaming. That’s just common practice.
And we need to stop comparing it to what Disney or WB are doing. The difference is that they own their services, so a same day release / announcement doesn’t hurt them as much, instead it gains them more subscribers. We just need to be patient.. it’s definitely coming, which is good news. Even when Crystal aired, it was still months until we got the improved version and dub. I reckon this will be much faster.
I think the situation is much simpler: If the movie were already on Netflix, no one would go to the cinema in Japan, therefore it will not come out now. Even if it is announced now, there may be Japanese people who prefer to wait for health issues since they know that it will be streaming in the near future.
After all, Toei is a company and it is interested in making money, they already have a few million for sure with the Deal with Netflix. They need to earn the more with the release in theaters in Japan at least to cover for the advertising campaign, so I think the release won't be up until, at least, March.
