Toei is a company, not a person. Ikuhara worked for Toei.
That what the Higher-ups of TOEI wanted, that is why the Dream Arc is majorly adapted in the fifth season, not Super S.

No, that is absolutely not a source for your claim regarding the S anime. Regarding the artcle, Ikuhara was an episode director and would have no say with the Dark Kingdom arc especially the characterization of someone like Rei which was established in season 1 under Satou’s supervision.

Ikuhara is the only person listed as the director of Sailor Moon S. Satou only directed specific episodes.

My opinion is that he was just trying to be consistent with the theme of the earlier seasons, the manga turned more adult and the anime is trying to maintain its original target audience.

That is why I think Crystal is being marketed as Josei.

He both just followed the earlier changes and exaggerated the source material at the same time, that is my opinion.

Which has nothing to do with the original claim that if Ikuhara was on board for Crystal Season 5 he would change nothing. His entire history proves otherwise and that’s not a criticism. It’s an observable fact.

Anyway, I’m not sure why anyone claiming to be an Ikuhara fan would want him to work on a project where he would be so creatively limited... It’s literally never going to happen.

I think Ikuhara and Takeuchi's paths diverged so it might not work, that is why I say having him as a consultant might work not as a director would work.

I think many things as well, dude. But I cannot prove a lot of these things, and a ton of them are not even true. Yet, sometimes I keep thinking these stuff. Look at the proof Ikuhara has never done what Crystal is - page by page adaptation. Ikuhara works best with no restrains and he is very determined to do his own stuff. He would never work on Sailor Moon again and he is not exactly on good terms with Toei. Please, sometimes it is nice to make threads for dreams, just do not go overboard with them and keep in touch with the reality.
But if we are talking on our thought. I think Ikuhara had his Sailor Moon, in which Mamoru is death, nobody cares and Usagi and Rei are a dream bickering couple. Yeah, exactly what Naoko has always wanted. :D And you seriously think the 90s anime is more adult than the manga... Sure.

Well Ikuhara and Takeuchi are more compatible professionally back in the day.

Naoko also killed Mamoru in Stars, I think Igarashi is worse than Ikuhara on Stars, and Stars was not even adapted from the actual manga plot that we already have, Naoko, discarded the plot where the anime was derived from.

I think you should read a lot about the anime industry and you might realize what very few on here do. The budget is not the issue.
Eternal movies has better animation than Crystal S3 (TV series), which has better animation than Crystal S1-2 (ONAs).

Maybe a bigger budget isn't the reason, but the animation quality improve when CrystalEternal change to a "superior" media.

That is why I think Crystal is being marketed as Josei.
Crystal is a Josei because the current fans of Sailor Moon are adult women.

Sailor Moon manga was always directed to Elementary School and Junior High School girls. That was the main audience of Nakayoshi magazine.

Sailor Moon manga show some "dark" themes. However, this is pretty tamed compared to what can be displayed in a manga for adults.

Ikuhara doesn't want to be involved in Sailor Moon again. So, his job is done in this franchise. Full stop.

Maybe Junichi Sato? Probably. But Ikuhara is out of the question.

I think neither of them should be involved.

Whoever is OK, as long as it follows the manga closely. I don't want Sailor Moon to cry and beg Galaxia "Onegai Yamete". I had a strong vicarious embarrassment when seeing Tuxedo being kicked, defeated in a miserable way in Sailor Moon R TV series, Sailor Moon SuperS Movie, and Sailor Moon fighting with that disgraceful attitude in the last battle with Galaxia.
