Gosh Sailor Crisis is amazing. Let's hope they somehow revisit it slightly.
I love Sailor Crisis as well, she/they do incredible work replicating Naoko's art.

"The lack of smoking scenes is simply due to modern regulations," Takaya wrote. "Because this is based on an older work, it's content was a result of a different era." She went on to add some additional notes regarding the anime's most recent episode. For instance, she explained that the similarities between Yuki and Akito's hairstyles are intentional but she has some trouble remembering exactly where it originated.

Natsuki Takaya (she is oh so fabricating)
? I don't recall any smoking scenes in Sailor Moon. And who are Yuki and Akito?

She is talking about Fruits Baket. The point of that is certain platforms, studios and tv stations have certain regulations. In her manga there is a character that smokes a l lot,in the old adaptation he smoked in some scenes, but in the reboot they omit that. So she basically says stuff has changed from the 90s and early 2000s. Crystal omit drinking Usagi in act 4 so there is some censuring going on. I just do not know if it is some studios pushing this as other shows have smoking and drinking and stuff, оr tvstations,or sponsors... The point is someone in the chain got stricter with drinking, smoking, corpses nudity, or whatever. Glad Naoko didn't went with her original idea for Makoto.

This is so gorgeous! Almost gives me goosebumps.
yes... and ai no senshi really gives the right vibe. While I love Crystal ost in general, not so much the Eternal so far, I do miss the og insert songs. I'd rather get it in silhouette like this than half-assed job...

Oh I see, thanks for clearing that up.

If I had to make a guess I would say it's the network enforcing it. A ton of dubs in North America had to make edits to adhere to network standards. I read an interview with some 4kids staff once and pretty much all the edits they did they had to do in order to be allowed to play their shows in the after school block. The alternative was to play the shows at like 10PM with no edits, but they always did kid anime so it would make absolutely no sense to air it when most kids have gone to bed lol.

It was an interesting read because they talked about how in some shows where they weren't allowed to say something like "I'll kill you!" they would tell the voice actor that that was what was being said originally so they could communicate the threat in their tone even if they couldn't say it in words.

The censors don't surprise me because kids are super impressionable, so if a cool character they idolize is seen smoking, they might get inspired to take up smoking themselves, whereas an adult viewer tends to be more immune to that sort of thing.

I remember kids in school hurting themselves imitating things they saw on TV eep. Hence a lot of "don't try this at home" popping up on things.

Both are late night anime though, so as a parent it is really question of good parenting in such case.

God, I would feel so ashamed if I were working at Toei...
Someone I'm the comments directly tagged both Osa and Toei. I just know they had to see it. I like how the fan did Usagi's hair. It looks so much better than Toei's version. The hair has some volume.

Of course this is just one image compared to a frame of multiple but I think they need more people like crisis on their time. Sorry if I sound harsh. I know the job of an animator is a hard one. Hopefully, this "delay" will leave some room for improvement.

I wouldn't figure on a touch up. Most likely the budget has been used already. If we do get one then sweet, but totally not expecting it at all.
And yeah a couple of frames in comparison to a whole movie isn't really fair to be honest, of course they can go all out when they're just drawing a couple random things.

It's pretty common to find *amazing* fanart for something, with much higher quality art than in a show, but again it's a random still they're going all out on, they're not animating with all that extra detail and on a time crunch to boot. More detail = less fluid movement unless they have an insane budget and a less strict deadline.

It's not impossible, just saying don't figure on it. Most likely they won't be, so no sense setting yourself up for disappointment. If it turns out they do it'll be a nice surprise. :)

Edit: I just had a bit of an epiphany. It's easy for me to be easy breezy about the whole thing since I don't buy merch. I can just casually enjoy everything. But for people who do buy the merch, aka the whole reason they still make new content, have a larger stake in this since they sunk money into the franchise to support the generation of new content and therefore are having a sense of 'this is where my money went?' and that feeling is understandable. I'll try to keep that in mind going forward. I would probably have stronger feelings in that case too!
