On my bad days I like to pretend the post-R old dub episodes don't exist, so I can say it ends at "Final Battle" and "Follow the Leader" does not exist. You could be forgiven for forgetting S and SuperS were dubbed.

.
Shoot, on my bad days I like to pretend the original DiC dub was cancelled after Sibling Rivalry. The final 17 episodes were pretty mediocre in presentation it seemed obvious DiC had lost interest and were just dubbing these episodes out of obligation and Optimum lacked any proper management (what did we call Mercury's attack again? Screw it just use the Japanese name)

Heck, one time as an experiment I did a dub rewatch and stopped at Sibling Rivalry as a finale and it worked rather well because even if ended on a cliffhanger of sorts you still had a finale-lite ending with the Scouts doing an "All your powers combined" maneuver"to save all of Tokyo from a black hole and the Twisted Sisters redemption subplot being finished.

The SuperS ending never really worked as a finale. I don't think the dubbers really intended it to end there. Nehelenia's arc continues at the beginning of the next season, so it sort of all did end on a cliffhanger.

I've always heard that Nicole Thualt was very difficult to work with, not just because she wasn't fluent in English, but she always micromanaged the directors. I know Tracey Moore had a nasty fallout with her. In Parliament's book, he suggests that Moore quit because she was in a stage show at the time, but he also brought up fights she had with Nicole. Terri Hawkes has always said there were "creative differences," which is industry speak for "nasty fallout." It's not surprising that she took on directing duties herself after firing Moore, Parliament, and Stocker. John Stocker has made it very clear that he never got along with Nicole. In one interview, he said "in politically correct terms, she was a 'kook.'"

I honestly thought SuperS had a better “ending” than R’s preview to S or S ending on a Chibi-Usa center one and done just to answer a question nobody asked. And DiC was set on ending Sailor Moon with the preview to S despite no hard evidence they had any intention of dubbing.

I don’t see anything about SuperS ending that is a cliffhanger exactly. It pretty much wraps everything up. The only really open ended thing was Nehelenia isn’t destroyed or reformedbut since she seals herself away in a mirror to remain beautiful forever and leaves earth we have no real reason to think she would bother the Scouts ever again without the context of Sailor Stars.

Heck given how much I detest Sailor Stars I dont mind the idea of the show ending on SuperS even if that seies was subpar at best

From what I can tell Nicole didn’t like Moore doing multiple takes with the actors to get it right because time is money.

Any surprise the first 10 or so episodes of the Optimum dub are leaguee above S and SuperS voice acting wise?

According to Linda Ballantyne, for S/SuperS, they usually recorded each line twice, and they just used the better take, so that would not surprise me at all. She said they only recorded even a second take for security in case there was something technically wrong with the first that they didn't catch.

Is Ami's First Love gonna be on the next set and I still haven't gotten my.set yet i can't wait
That special premiered together with the SuperS movie so it should be included with that film like Make Up did with R and that will take a while before it sees a release here.

So, something interesting I noticed with this set is that the English dub uses the first version of Watashi-tachi ni Naritakute for all of the episodes that have it for the ending theme (1 - 13, plus the special). This is the case for the blu rays at least - i’m assuming it’s the same on the DVD’s. The Japanese track switches to the 2nd version (the TV size version found on the Memorial Music Box) after episode 6, similar to the Pioneer DVDs.

Charlene Ingram announced on her Facebook that she's leaving Viz on May 21st (she has a new job at a video game company). I'm not sure how much of an impact that will leave, but it does look like Sailor Moon was her baby, and I wouldn't be surprised if she was the reason why they even got the show at all. A lot of Viz's hype for this show has already disappeared (the Moonlight Parties, slower release schedule, sloppier booklets, etc), and it might get even worse... or it might all improve. Who knows? Viz is still mostly a manga company, and their anime division is quite small compared to FUNimation and Sentai Filmworks. They started licensing a lot more shows after Charlene jumped ship from FUNimation, but lately, they're focusing almost all of their effort solely on Naruto, Pokemon (DVD only), Jojo, One-Punch Man (a shorter show) and Sailor Moon. They did an outstanding job with Ranma 1/2, but it looks like that happened during a very specific time when they were more open to something different, when they also got smaller shows like Lagrange, K, Gargantia, Coppelion, Nura, Zetman, and Tiger & Bunny. I'm not sure just how much influence Char had, but it wouldn't surprise me if Viz goes back to how they used to be, when they only focused on a few big shows (at one point, it was all Bleach, Naruto, Pokemon, and Death Note). It seems like Sailor Moon was licensed during a time when Viz was taking more risks, and Char was doing her best to help it compete more with FUNi. It's clearly a show that means a lot to her, and I do wonder if FUNi would have gotten if she was still there, and if so, how their releases would've compared. Just something to think about.

She did say she'll still be hosting the Sailor Moon events at AX this July, so I guess she's still sort of the unofficial Viz!Sailor Moon mascot.

^It'll be interesting to see how this affects promotion for Sailor Stars next year and the remaining movies. Will there even be Sailor Moon panels after this Summer?

Ehh this is disappointing to hear and I've noticed they slowed down a lot of promo for the show, Char was definitely the anchor for SM. i just hope they don't drop the ball on it, I need Sailor Stars! Lol

How'd they manage to pull of doing InuYasha's dub so well?

That's what I'm hoping for also. I hope Viz doesn't repeat that same stupid blunder of canceling it again just like what Dic and/or Cloverway did over fifteen years ago. Because it seems that's where its heading to. They're doing so well with the fitting voices and leaving certain scenes uncensored so they can't quit already. Sailor Moon has one more chance in America and Viz can't eff it up. Come on Viz, don't give up on us now, you can make it to Sailor Stars!

Cloverway didn't "cancel" the series, they simply never got the license from Toei to dub Sailor Stars back then, as Sailor Stars was a separate acquisition from the previous four seasons. And even then, by the time SuperS was done back then, Toei's pulling the Sailor Moon license away from the all international markets was just around the corner anyway.

Wasn’t that mostly outsourced to Ocean Group in Canada?

@Danzig DiC cancelled Sailor Moon after they did their 65 episode pckage for syndication and the went ahead and finished the last 17 episodes they had when Irwin toys fronted the money. Cloverway dubbed all 77 episodes they license from Toei. Like Sabr said Toei was not licensing Sailor Stars to any company even though we know for a fact ADV (the company responsible for releasing the DiC seasons on DVD and Classic and R “uncut” subbed) tried.

So neither DiC and Cloverway actually cancelled Sailor Moon outside of DiC’s two year hiatus.

And nothing about this info from Viz sounds like they’re cancelling the series

No wonder so many fans lost interest in Sailor Moon. Chances of the Sailor Stars season being dubbed in English is very unlikely.
