How would Usagi's family react if they learned the turth about her?

Shingo would die of embarrassment from all those times he spent locked in the bathroom thinking of Sailor Moon...

She would probably get disciplined for secretly wearing miniskirts at age 14 in 90s Japan.

Not to toot my own horn, but when I wrote my gigantic overview for my ideas for a Season 6 of the 90s anime in the Fanfiction Ideas thread, I included my thoughts on how I'd have Usagi's family find out about her being Sailor Moon and how they'd react to finding out. The following is bit of both a summation and a fleshing out of those ideas.

I had Shingo be the first to find out since he was the victim-of-the-day at the time (and in a three-parter, no less). I imagined that he would of course be shocked that the heroine he admires and the stupid big sister he doesn't get along with were the same person all along. But, after seeing her save him, risking her life and such, he would probably come around to seeing past his sister's faults (but not completely ignoring them, of course) and recognizing her for the cool hero that she truly is. From this point, his relationship with Usagi would be more like that of Chibiusa's relationship with Usagi after Rubeus was defeated, in that Shingo would be more supportive of his sister being a superhero and could admire her more openly, but still tease her and such because, hey, they're still siblings who are bound to butt heads every now and then. He'd just be more willing to be nicer to her more often than he used to.

As for Ikuko and Kenji, I had then find out after their having been kidnapped by one of the main villains, who held them hostage to force Sailor Moon into a one-on-one duel with him (a duel that Sailor Moon ended up losing, but from which her parents were allowed to go free since the guy just wanted information out of Sailor Moon, info that he knew he'd only obtain in exchange for something that Sailor Moon would have wanted badly enough). Because of the circumstances of how they found out, I had it be that Ikuko and Kenji were anything but pleased to learn that their daughter was not only living a secret double life behind their backs for all this time, but that it was a life where she constantly threw herself into serious danger that could get her killed. The thought of losing Usagi to some murderous monster was too much for the two to bear and they insisted that Usagi end her career as a Sailor Soldier and go back to being only the normal girl that they thought she had been for all this time. Unfortunately, Usagi just couldn't give in to that ultimatum of theirs, which put her and her parents at odds with each other for a bit, not on good speaking terms either. Amid all of this, Shingo defending his sister for how cool it was to him that she was Sailor Moon.

It wasn't until another two-parter that saw Ikuko and Kenji (and Shingo) abducted again by a different set of villains, but this time taken along with other friends and acquaintances of the Sailor Soldiers: Motoki, Unazuki, Naru, Umino, Yuichiro, Rei's grandpa, and Hotaru's father. It took a combination of Ikuko and Kenji witnessing first hand their daughter successfully fighting to save their lives with her friends and teammates, and their hearing accounts from the other hostages (most prominently from Hotaru's father) about how Sailor Moon had saved all of their lives many times before and affected all of them for the better as a positive influence on each of them. Once they'd finally realize just how terrific their daughter has been ever since she became Sailor Moon, Ikuko and Kenji would finally come around to accepting her as the hero she has been toth to everyone else and to themselves. Of course, they'd still worry about their daughter always placing her life in jeopardy since, well, they are her parents and parents will always worry about their children out of love for them, but they wouldn't be as anxious about it anymore, having seen how capable a hero Usagi had grown into being.

How ... gross.

Her parents would freak out, of course. I’d rathey that THEY never learn about her true identity. Then again, it’d be sweet if Ikuko and Kenji would say that they accept her even if she’s a moon princess.
Shingo might help cover for Usagi when she’s out on a mission from his parents.

If I were put in charge of the next adaptation of Sailor Moon, at the end of the Dark Kingdom arc, while Metalia is absorbing/destroying the world, I'd include a scene where Ikuko, Kenji, and Shingo are at home, watching the destruction unfold on TV/through their windows, and worrying about Usagi when Queen Serenity appears to them, tells them all about who she is and who Usagi really is, and ask them to believe in her and pray to the Crystal Tower to lend her strength. We'd get a really touching exchange between Usagi's two mothers and her Earth family would see how amazing their daughter/sister is, and going forward we'd seem them being supportive while also being worried (Kenji and Ikuko) and a little bit jealous (Shingo).

I imagine they eventually do when she becomes neo queen.

I did like that part of your fanfic Sabrblade. Personally I thought that your fanfic ideas were awesome.

As far as them finding out after the course of the series, I don't see her parents freaking out so much. They would be surprised, of course, but given that by the time of the end of the series, Sailor Moon is known for saving the city time and time again, they'd be proud of her.

The only real potential for any significant drama would be a reveal in the first arc. After Sailor Moon discovers that she's destined to become queen of the world, there's not much a reveal could do to stop her.

Shingo probably wouldn't care. Yes, he idolized Sailor Moon at the beginning of the series, but by the end of the series he had probably grown out of his admiration, thinking of her as just another superhero.

This spawns several interesting additional questions: Would they pardon/forgive/caress her? Would they tell her how proud they are? Would they scorn or punish her for "illegally" sneaking out at night to go risk her life on the streets to fight off evil Monsters so much bigger and (only supposedly) stronger than herself?

To all those grossed out by that... C'mon, after the doll episode, you can't tell me this wouldn't be the case.

'Just another superhero?' It's not like Usagi lives in the DC or Marvel comics universe where superheroes are considered the norm.

^Even if they did Shingo as a boy who lives in Japan wouldn’t have a reason to care much about them.


I like to think Japanese Spider-man exist in the Moonverse even if Usagi would have been in diapers during his active years.

There's a fine line between "thinking someone is cute" and "doing something cheaply disgusting that the dumb Family Guy crowd finds hilarious".

By the end of the series, Sailor Moon and the rest of the team are essentially well-known celebrities. They aren't vigilanties fighting under the cover of darkness; they're known figures.

Shingo in Season 1 would be awestruck by Sailor Moon because she is a new celebrity, but I believe that Shingo after Season 5 would be jaded, as several years would have passed.

While the questions are interesting, it's undermined by the problem any discovery won't happen until when Sailor Moon is 16 and Sailor Moon has become a relatively known figure. Besides, Sailor Moon as a superhero is very reactive, only transforming when in immediate danger. It's not as if she prowls for criminals, is given missions by a superior (although Sailor V does have "Boss" in the manga), or has to even challenge them as they rampage elsewhere, but danger almost always comes to her.

I'm not saying there's nothing gained by not exploring the question (some fan works have tackled this very well), but I can't see there being that much "drama" from a canon perspective because of the way the show is set up. Plus, Ikuko kicked Usagi out of the house for bad grades; I don't see her as grounding her child.

First off, if the Sailor Moon characters existed in the Marvel universe, they'd also have Sunfire as a national hero before Sailor Moon came along. Not to mention all the misadventures Wolverine has had in Japan.

Hey, if we're going to talk a crossover of everything else Toei has done, maybe we should include the 1989 X-Men pilot done by them?

I've done something like this, where Usagi was blackmailed into transforming right in front of her parents, otherwise they'd have their skulls crushed. Given the context of the whole plot is quite different than a story arc of Sailor Moon... Yeah, plenty of room for some drama.

Let me be more blunt. I think fans are infinitely better at creating stories and dramatic plotlines for the Sailor Moon series than what we would get in actual canon from official writers. I guess I'm less imaginative in this aspect because the canon material makes it hard to believe these characters would give a hoot.

I'm no canon purist....just jaded.
