Is the Sailor Moon fandom really as bad as people think?

The net also helps radicalize certain types of people in fandoms, hence it's more about the general characteristics of the net than the nature of fandoms themselves. :)

The Steven Universe fandom attacked an artist for drawing Steve’s mom skinny that she attempted suicide cause of all the hate.
Yes. I am aware of that. That's why I jockingly said "except Steven Universe." Also we have members here like Lunastatic part of that fandom and he's not causing trouble here or anywhere else.

But that incedent did had a domino effect with the Make Up Reanimate team which contributed to its future projects cancelled or on hold I believe.

Because artists were getting maligned & worse because they participated in a project that dared used the old dub audio, to the point where prominent fans were telling artists, "This is how you were supposed to draw it, saying the dub is awful and that you should watch the REAL Sailor Moon."

No, I'm not exaggerating. A lot of the bigger-name fans were publicly saying that about the first Moon Animate Make-Up, so I have no idea how bad it got in private messages.

I didn't saw that in their Facebook page or in youtube comments. They've already finished with their second video by the time I've checked it.

Edit:

Moon Animate Make Up is pretty much alive.

I'll post it in the Moon Animate thread.

My experience in the fandom has always been positive. I've heard bad things about the roleplay community on tumblr, but that's expected because it's tumblr. I know there was the whole drama between these forums and Miss Dream way back when, but that's water under the bridge and doesn't matter.

Overall I think the drama we have is a lot less than other fandoms.

I wouldn't say the Sailor Moon fandom itself is bad (granted my only real experience is here and I barely post) but I will say some of the more casual fans dismissing any other magical girl anime as a Sailor Moon rip-off or thinking this series invented the genre is hella annoying.

I say this because I used to be that type kind of. Never thought other magical girl shows were rip-offs or that this show invented the concept, but for a while I did dismiss them as being inferior.

As in the Internet?

Which other anime? Pretty Cure, possibly?

1st off I REALLY LOVE your Cure White Avatar, Love Precure Allot and good to see other Sailor Moon Fans that enjoy Precure!

Never Really in my Life thought in the Least that other Magical Girls shows where rip-offs of Sailor Moon, I Always saw them and I greatly encourage other Fans as well to in See them as one of the GRANDEST parts of Sailor Moon's Legacy, they the Franchise and Characters Litterly where the Originators of a WHOLE New Superhero Mythos and Style of Magical Girls!

Nearly Everyone One of these Shows tries IMO to seem to Honor Sailor Moon and What Sailor Moon Did and I LOVE the fact that Sailor Moon SO changed the world is such a positive way like this, creating this class of heroes that IMO is the Best Class in the World, the Magical Girl Power Class!

Yes I will always see Sailor Moon as #1 and will want Sailor Moon to have more story, shows and legacy given to the franchises, but just seeing what Precure has done and others franchises and even American Comics as well have taken notice, that Sailor Moon Changed the world and that is all for the better buy creating the World of Magical Girl Heroes!!! :usagi::bow:

My experience, and I'll emphasize on the "MY EXPERIENCE" to avoid problems, with the sailor moon fandom is that most girls who are fan of the series I've talked to are extremely castrating, even my half-sister. I've never understood why considering that what hooked me a bit after reading the first few chapters, despite the lack of action (huge dbz fan at the time) was that genuine love Serenity has for Endymion in all times and places, It clearly was worth respect in my opinion.
While I didn't take part in it the only thing I saw from the communities was the drama, because that's what all people wanted to talk about, so yeah can't really say that I think the sailor moon communities are good when I only saw that, though I met some cool people in here.

Oh right another experience, when I joined the previous board it was actually the only board where I got threatened to be banned for expressing my opinion once by you know who so there's that

Are there people stereotyping this fandom? I really haven't noticed but then again I don't get around much. I mean the internet, in general, can be a pretty toxic place lots of lonely and immature people but I haven't noticed that within this community at all really. Probably depends on the forum or social media you frequent but I have seen so much worse.

As my 14 years on Sailor Moon: I had one guy who hated my rabbit bashing in my sprite comic, there was SaveOurSailors seeking out censorship on Sailor Stars episodes along with Prince Uranus idea, there was a crazy cosplayer who assumed everyone else who was cosplaying Usagi was ripping them off, and finally the fallout with MissDream with the rerelease of the Sailor Moon manga because they wanted their translations to be 100% accurate.

Sailor Moon fans are a mixed bag. We got our extremes but we can all enjoy a crybaby who’s willing to sacrifice herself to save her friends. I guess that’s why folks love the series.

Hence I got a Sailor Moon Tumblr called Miss Dramu.
I posted most of their coup on my Photobucket account. They went as low to attack Kondasha editor on Twitter.
And then a year later of their insanity, they mocked users like us having no life and process to blame us for their drinking habits on Twitter.

Yeah, apparently fansubbing Sailor Myu is serious business when it comes to Miss Dream.
