With Sakura they have a good reason - on going source. But Toei cannot be forgiven. If they continued with tv series they should have been done by now. Sudden change of format without any preparation.

Japan is a country of sometimes quite diverse opposites.

They have some very highly advanced techology but yet somethings take forever.

- They have only just in the past 2 years introduced the US eqivalent of a social security number - government is only just now starting to become joined up and more efficient
- When I want to setup automatic bank transfer for bills - in the UK its done over the phone within a few minutes...Japan it takes 4 weeks
- I file my taxes in February - I only get my health insurance and city tax bills (based on the numbers in my tax filing) at the end of June.

Go figure that out ?

Heres a good blog about production committes maybe this will help?

Oh your example of Violet Evergarden is unfair by the way

- It was probably planned from the start to have a movie
- They already have key visuals / key art / character designs in place
- The animation team probably were already working on the movie before the last episode aired

PS - I'm looking forward to the Violet Evergarden movie - I own the show on JP blu-ray - just hoping it makes it out to the inaka where I am but won't hold my breath. If it's anything like Haikara san ga tooru in won't and will have to wait for the blu-ray :(

And Crystal announced a new project back in January 2017. So they have planned it as well. Let's be honest they were we aware from the get go they will cover all the 5 arcs. They are just trying to drag it till the 30th annicersary.

Oh for sure.

The point I was making was not so much the planning but the fact that VE's movie production started with a full staff and key assets in place more or less straight after the TV prodcution finished.

The Crystal Movies are starting / were starting from zero.

In any case I've just been trying to say its best just to be blasse about it. I'm a member of the fan club here in Japan - the watch bonus item is still not in my hands and I renewed in April - que pasa - how long does it take to approve, manufacture and distribute a small dinky watch bracelet ?

A perfect example of how the franchise is moving at a monolithic pace and its not going to get any better soon.

It was announced in June, not January
No, June was when they announced it as 2 movies with the Director returning but it was January when they announced that a Dream adaptation was happening.

This is the most frustrating thing - we have a little announcement once a year that basically say nothing. Bad planning and three seasons that continue an ongoing story but are a reset each time is very frustrating.

Sailor Moon Crystal.
To be honest.
While they still treasure everything of the old anime...
no they dont, didnt even remastered it to hd and just upscaled it, lying the film has been lost. Nobody could really just lose a film material of 200 episode show, while keeping the mov8es and special ones. Toei treat the old anime as cheaply as Crystal. They don't even pay for new cover art for its releases.

Meanwhile Mazinger Z, a 92-episode show from the early 70s did get a remaster from the film negatives for Blu-ray and this was done while working on the most recent movie.

And there are rumors (not confirmed, might be confusion because of the movies recently) that Dragon Ball is getting the same treatment for next year in Japan.

At least, they are making goods with 90's style.
I feel that they consider season I and II as their failure and don't dare to mention it on official site anymore.

They do, it is right under animation. If you are talking about Toei site - they never had Crystal on it in the first place. The art used for merch has nothing to do with Toei, as they do not dictate what to be used in this regard.

As a fanbase we'd sure want better treatment. Crystal had a rough start. I cant even recall any other worldwide successful series to be handled in such a bad way as S1 of Crystal. However Toei surely did improve. S2 was already better. S3 showed they listened to the complains. And even though the delay is a pain i do believe S4 will be even better.

But even now we're in far better situation than between 2004-2012. We do get musicals every year, the merch isnt stopping, we get manga rereleases, 90 anime rereleases, Sailor Moon app-game, recently we also got 4D ride and SM classical concerts. Its odd to think Sailor Moon was "dead" for almost a decade so i like to think that whatever we have now its not the end of the world.

Of course hope it will get better.

Not really. Almost every anime does this nowadays with releasing content. I’m still waiting for the Blue Exorcist. Tsuredure Children, and Masamune-Kun No Revenge to return (and next year will make two years since each of their latest seasons have been released). I guess I’m just used to it, but I feel like I’m more excited for those other shows over SMC.

I don't think any of these has announced a new project tough.
