Will there be shorts in front of the Dream movies?

Hasn't been revealed news about Crystal back in the days at a french anime convention?
Crystal was announced in Paris, but it was on a big event. I don't expect anything like that. I just hope that they are planing to reveal something around this time, so Kotono could have something new Sailor Moon related to talk about. Even if people just ask her she might tell something like "We wrapped recordings" or "We haven't started yet" which would tell a lot of where the production is going.

Yes, it was at Japan Expo in Paris, which will be held this year on july 4-7. So...june 30th is Usagi's birthday. At Anime Matsuri last year (march 2018 )Chiaki Kon said, they just started working and it will take 1-2 years to develop.

How much time did they need to produce the 90s movies?

The 90s movies were molike iva quality abd were pretty sure. Similar to Pretty Cure annual movies, they took them most likely less than an year, but they reused a lot of animation and didn't have to adapt full story arc. They were like two and a half filler episodes with slightly better animation. Crysttal films are changing designs, which means they cannot use any stick footage from Season 3, and if they do some recap it cnnot be montage. Theold films were really just special epidoes and cannot compare to sequel films. Based on how Toei release promo art and sneaks for most of their films half a year before release date, the Dream film won't oremier until at least winter 2020 in case they show promos and stuff in june.

According to google.

How long does it take to animate 1 minute?
Usually, a 2 to 3-minute video takes an average or 4 weeks to produce. If it's a simple motion graphics, it can take 3 weeks. However, an animated video with character design (meaning there are cartoon characters) can take 4 to 6 months in the making.
I'm surprised Steven Universe takes longer.

How long does it take to animate an episode of Steven Universe?
A single 11min episode of Steven Universe takes around 9 months for the studio to complete. This means pre-production of a serial begins months before the show airs, and this carries on through as the show progresses.

This is for cartoons, anime uses different techniques and is cheaper and faster to produce. According to Answerman column an anime episode takes about 2 months to be completed. 3 months with very ambitious production. Of course they usually hae different teams and make multiple episodes at a time, as long as they are organized. Knowing Toei though...

And we're talking about a movie here with higher production values and more frames than the usual anime episode. So it's going to take longer than 3 months.

Still u cannot compare a cartoon movie to an anime film. I gave an eample of a tv series, because this is what is available. I haven't said the movies are the same. But western animation use a lot lot more frame, so it cannot be compared. One episode of the Simpsons for example can eat up budget enough for 12 anime episodes. Movies while done with more animation never follow the western techniques. Only the mouth motion in cartoon film would eat twice as time and a cartoon film takes 4-5 years to be produced. Anime films are mostly done in 2 years and we are talking about KyoAni, who really do quality animation and are much smaller than Toei.

You missed my point. Whether it be a western animation or done locally in Japan, a movie production requires more time.

You make it sound like TOEI hired Kazuko Tadano, a former veteran who did a wonderful job, to do a movie and expect the work done in 6 months.

in general any animated film requires more time and work than TV version makes no difference if it's anime or cartoon
modern cartoons are lazy but the classics are wonderful works of art that can trump some anime
The studio that did Avatar and its sequel did a wonderful job. Sad thing the Thundercats reboot only lasted one season. But everything is Tumblr-fied now in western animation cause they're targeting 4 year olds. XD

No, of course not. It usually takes about 2 years with a few months of initial planning, which are in most cases prior anniuncment. Toei have this problem with Crystal - they announce projects and then start planning. As far as Kazuko Tadano goes she is just a designer so far. We don't know if she will be involved as animation director etc. And keep in mind they haven't lost 2 years on animation so far, but just doing nothing and taking ages on a script... They announced a project in Jan 2017 and by April 2018 they didn't even started that script. Plus this is Toei we are talking about. Watch some of their recent films.... They dont look like something that has been done with time and care.
Actually I did a quick check. Tadano's most recent works in 2007 and 2014 had her as designer only and not as animation director, which is actually the case in many older stuff. Usually character designer is animation director as well, and she was for Classic and R, but for Wedding Peach for example she was just a designer. So this might be her only involvment here as well.

With the Dream Arc being adapted into two theatrical movies, this would be a good opportunity to adapt some of the manga side stories into shorts and release them as part of the theatrical presentation. Do you think Toei will go for it? They have done so in the past with some of their PreCure movies. Which side stories do you think fit with the Dream Arc? Which ones would you like to see animated?
I don't know about that, the only good ones were Casablanca Memory and Ami's First Love, most of the others were godawful.

Who ready for some Crytsal movies? I have been spamming my coworkers with random Sailor Moon photos. I know they are annoyed of me now..lol one thing I love about Sailor Moon is how I will never forget how great it is and the impact. No matter what happens with the movie I'll still love it, still come here and talk about. I also like that fans really keep things going with games and their own spin on series. Our fandom is truly amazing. Almost like none other.

I also can't believe that I'm still here talking about Sailor Moon haha. I had my first contact with the series when I was 11 years old and I hated it. Soon I became obsessed with it. When I was about 20 I forgot about it. In my late 20s my obsession came back and I think now, in my mid30s, I love it as a whole thing more then ever. After the Crystal desaster I think I even appreciate SuperS haha.
