I think they're insufferable in the penultimate episode of S, but otherwise I don't exactly dislike them; I just find them dull.
What made you think they were dull, Memento?

I like Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune alot actually. I think they are what made S such a great season I also don't know imaginationgirl why you can dislike them in the 90s anime but like them in the manga and Crystal since their personalities really aren't that different nor is their dynamic with the other Senshi. They were no less jerks or bullies in the manga or Crystal. Hell they even tried to kill the Inners in the manga for not being willing to kill Hotaru. Also personally in alot of ways I was on the Outers side in S. I mean really they were the ones willing to do what it took to save the world. Take the Talisman holders case according to all of the information known at the time the only way to save the Earth from the Silence was to sacrifice the talisman holders. There was no third option now Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune didn't want to do this and they felt so much guilt and even hated themselves for this but they were willing to do what it took to save the world. Plus to be honest I agreed with some of their issues with the Inners. Like for instance how Sailor Moon basically gave the Holy Grail to Mistress 9 in the finale of S I completely understood how Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune could be pissed with her. I personally loved how suave and elegant they were and I disagree with MementoNepenthe I loved the scenes with the watercolor images with the flower petals flowing past and the background music I thought it was so beautiful and elegant.

I found them annoying in the beginning of the season, specifically when they were transformed (as civilians they were pretty interesting though) but toward the middle-end they were good characters imo. There were especially hilarious in that episode where Minako tries to get her pure heart stolen lol

Hell they even tried to kill the Inners in the manga for not being willing to kill Hotaru.
I don't think that's what happened. They did attack them in one chapter, but that was more so they could escape (and make it clear they aren't allies) but they did save Ami in the next chapter. And after they told the others about Hotaru being Saturn, they left, seeing the Inners as unwilling to do whatever necessary to save the world. But (outside of Cyprine's mind control) they never tried to kill the others.

In my opinion about 90s anime Uranus and Neptune:

I liked them at first because..."yay, new Sailor Scouts" (though lost points second episode). But they did start to become more difficult to like afterwards. It really felt like they were actively hostile and it didn't feel like Saturn was all that much a threat, so them trying to be all distant really didn't feel so justified.

I still hate the episode where they challenge Sailor Moon. Felt totally unnecessary.

Honestly I was on the side of them when they challenged Sailor Moon I understood their frustration with her for just giving the Holy Grail to Mistress 9 and again I liked the Outers because they were willing even though they didn't like it to make the hard decisions in order to save the world where as the Inners were basically just hoping for the best without any plan.

Also it was a while since I read the manga but I remember them attacking the Inners for not agreeing with their plan to kill Hotaru to stop the silence they may have saved Ami in the next chapter but even still the Inners and Outers were equally as hostile to each other in both the 90s anime and the manga so I don't get where people think that the Outers are so much nicer to them in the manga. Also I don't get you on the notion of Sailor Saturn not being a threat as she is basically portrayed as the Senshi of Destruction. That being said the Outers were wrong and Sailor Saturn was not a threat but rather Mistress 9 was but then again they knew that Mistress 9 possessed Hotaru so they thought that Mistress 9 would have Saturn's power which she sort of did.

I don’t think the Outers are necessarily meant to be completely likeable in the ‘90s anime. They’re meant to be characters that disrupt and challenge the status quo of the existing characters and introduce a new layer of conflict. At times their methods can seem a bit contrived (probably because the show is limited with the audience being younger children), but I think the show does a pretty good job of contrasting their severe methodology with Usagi’s idealism.

The Outers in the manga are generally portrayed a bit nicer and after the Infinity arc seem to just generally fit in better with the rest of the cast because of it (we see them hanging with the Inners a lot more in the manga than we do in the anime). But I think they become completely interchangeable as the manga progresses as a result.

I feel like half of their screen time in S was just in the form of watercolor still images with flower petals blowing past and that one piece of background music playing, and it just puts me to sleep every time.
I think they could been written better in the 90 s.It felt like there were written as two things. One side perfect fan girl material. The other side the antagonist. The episode where they tried to attack Usagi.Seal the deal.I get why they were angry it was stupid for Usagi to give the grail to Midtress 9.What I don't agree is how they try to attack her.

Same thing, Haruka and Michiru ruined S for me, they were basically bullies, and if they didnt changed their ways at last episode of S, if i were Sailor Moon/Serenty, i would take their powers away, they are too dangerous. Like Makoto said, they were no different from Daimons. At least in Crystal/manga they felt remorseful for their action and knew even if Hotaru dont have much time left, killing her is still bad, but they have to get their hands dirty, even if everyone else will hate them.
