Expectations for the art direction/character design/visual look

I had this amazing dream about Sailor Moon a couple of years ago. I think it was triggered because I heard about that Ikuhara movie concept with the black pegasus and Uranus looking for Neptune at the end of the world. And I think I mst have watched the anime series and read some manga too. So the dream was very cool and there was Nehellenia and some outer space moments and the tone was quite mature/dark and it had some elements of the 90s series. It was actually perfect and exactly what I am wishing for the SMC Dream movies. Of course it would be foolish to expect exactly what I dreamt, but with Kazuko Tadano doing the character design (she said in an interview, it's going to be a more adult version of what she did in the 90s anime) I'm quite optimistic. So who's deciding the art direction/visual look of the series? I didn't like the soft flat color palette of SMC S1+2, I'd prefer it to have more contrast. And the art in general was, although pretty at times, quite generic. Sometimes also because Naokos art is a bit generic. For instance, Kaorinite's fountain does not look that amazing. I hope the designers will have the freedom to enhance and visually upgrade the manga material.

What do you think? Will the movies have the same look as the other seasons or do you think/wish/hope there will be some visual changes?

Considering the character art difference between Season 1-2 versus Season 3 was enormous, I doubt they give any thoughts about consistency. I am sure the new character designs will be just as different. As for the art direction, we don't know who is going to be art director for the movies yet. Crystal so far had the same two art directors for season 1/2 and 3. They might still use the same guys. We only know who is director and character desogner so far. These things depend as much on the art director as well as the chief animation director. I am really impatient as well, but we should wait and see if and what they reveal on Usagi's birthday beforefurther speculation. I personally want something detailed and mature-looking, but Chiaki Kohn, at least based on her previous works and the director has huge influence as well, prefers rounder and cuter characters with giant heads. I really hope she is letting Tadano doing her think. Otherwise Chiaki Kohn did well adapting the story so far.
As for Kazuko Tadano's interview I am not sure but I think she ment her art and skills matured rather than the art itself. In most recent interview she just said "something a bit like in the past, a bit more modern and yet truer to Naoko's vision". Rather vague, so it really can go in any possible direction.

I'm guessing she's had some ideas that haven't been used before kind of like how Ikuhara recycled unused ideas from SuperS to Utena.

I wish they bring back the lips, like on the 4d ride designs, which are gorgeous,

maybe is going to be something like the 4d animation, well i want something more like the manga or maybe like season 1/2 but with good parts, or is better to let my spectations low or in zero i dont want to be disappointed

Guys, be ready for an announcment on this birthday for sure. Anime expo confirmed the crystal producer Junichiru Tsuchiya to join the Sailor Moon pannel. For this means one thing Crystal news on birthday, and USA update on anime expo. Fingers crossed for trailer.

He's a Kodansha producer, it's not going to be about Crystal.

Maybe so but Osabu is going to be there so someone will definitely ask him about Crystal during the Q&A.

I've been rather nonchalant with the Crystal movies. I want them to happen but I've kinda been meh. We could get something soon who knows.

Instead of two movies, they're going to announce the Dream arc will be adapted as a series of ads for Amazon Japan. (Why pass up the chance at some easy product placement coins?)

Jokes aside I miss the show. Even if it was not what I hoped for, it still made me smile and feel some excitement. Me and my wife we are like kids now, talking about the way it is gonna look like and who is going to voice Nehellenia. She is my favorite villain so I hope for a great performance. I wonder if she is going to share a voice with Zirconia this time around.

Yeah, I miss it too. Please Toei just give us finally Sailor Moon back. Learn from the past mistakes and make it decent!

I don't know what I'm expecting for the 30th of june, but at least some key visual from Kazuko Tadano and a vague "more infos later this year" or "in theatres 2020" shouldn't be too much asked.
