It has been said time and again and I will repeat it here: The dub of Crystal is worlds better than the 90's anime redub and it's all the same actors in the same character roles. The main difference there is the different director.
Both dubs were directed by Suzanne Goldish so you're wrong about that. The only difference was with the scriptwriters since they had Deborah Crane, who used the manga as her source, work on Crystal.

Yeah... I'd say that Stephanie's general characterization of Usagi has improved, but her transformation and attack call delivery is still abominable and her voice is still a bit inconsistent. The others haven't really improved at all. There's really no excuse for how bland their performances are when the original dub cast managed to convey emotion in their performances, even while being directed by an inexperienced director who barely spoke English and being made to record sometimes up to ten episodes in one session. If they managed to sound distinct and present under those circumstances, the Viz cast should be able to deliver some Emmy-caliber performances. That they can't speaks to either a lack of talent, a lack of care, or both.

So... Is Viz ever going to just come out and admit they hired like three voice actors to do all the characters? Or does everyone in the anime dubbing industry today really just sound identical (and bland to boot)? You'd think they'd want the AnimaMates to all sound different, and yet they sound like literally every single other female character in this lazy redub so far...
Yeah... I don't get it. I mean Siren sounds okay, but still sounds like everyone else. I wish more veteran actors were involved with this. I would've loved Wendy Lee as Siren or Lead Crow.

I think it's more because Crystal is a super subdued version compared to the 90's anime. There's barely any emotional depth when it comes to Crystal to begin with. And honestly, you can tell the VAs were originally cast with Crystal's cast in mind anyway especially if you listen to Rei.

You’d think they would want the main 5 girls to all sound different but with the exception of Mako they all sound close to the same.

Can we just get a re-redub? Preferably with the Canadian cast but I’ll settle for California to take another crack just as long as there’s a few key recast and a new voice director.
You know, if Canada ever went the "Ocean Dub" route like Dragon Ball's series did where it had a US and Canada dub, I would've pictured Tara Strong being Mercury's new dub voice. But that's just me.

I'd still low-key love a British or Irish dub. There are a lot of Celtic and Arthurian influences in the series, so it would be kind of appropriate, and they could always keep Jill as Luna (provided they could arrange studio time for her in Canada).

She works in both the US and Canada. She records My Little Pony in the latter.
She records MLP in LA, though. She doesn't work directly with the other cast members. Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity) fills in for her as Twilight Sparkle when the Canadian actors record their lines and then Strong records her lines individually in LA. Hasbro just really wanted her for Twilight while the rest of the main cast is based in Vancouver.

The voices to me our okay, but they lack any emotion. It reminds me of the old style uncut dubs of the 90s. Where companies just start mixing. Its kinda sad that this redub was so hype.(By Viz,and Old sailor moon fans) Why it's just subpar.

Viz Media Responds to Sailor Moon Sailor Stars Anime's Booklet Errors

Viz Media revealed in a statement on Tuesday that a booklet bundled with the limited edition of the first Sailor Moon Sailor Stars home video release contains text errors. The company said, "The erroneous text is in the romaji provided with the song lyrics. The booklet is the only item affected and the issue does not affect the rest of the Limited Edition set or the Standard BD or DVD releases."

Viz Media also stated that it is working on a "replacement solution" for people who already purchased the set. The set shipped with 17 episodes on Tuesday. Viz Media's release marks the first time Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, which is the fifth and final season of the original Sailor Moon television anime series, is getting a home video release in North America.
Get ready to call WB's crappy Customer Service again like with both R sets. :zoid:

Viz made another mistake, at least up here in my area. My local Walmart had the DVD and Blu-ray listed for this set, and received them in, but got notified today to not put any on the shelf because they are all missing a disc! I'll be checking another store tomorrow, but needless to say I'm let down!
