Ikuhara will never work on another anime where he doesn't have complete control and Toei and/or Naoko will never give him that kind of control.

However, Ikuko itoh doing the character designs for the Stars arc may be possible considering she briefly worked on that butt anime (whatever it's called) at Toei. At this rate, we should expect another character design change for Stars.

I expect it as well, and actually like it. It is not so bad seeing different takes on the art-style. And everyone can have a style they wanted and enjoy. At first I found the inconsistency annoying, but the diversity is not so bad and they kind of turned a negative into a positive, at least for me. Plus with each new story arc it is like starting from scratch, and the anticipation feels more exciting.

Stars in Manga is a complete disaster towards the end honestly... very rushed and needs way better execution methods to translate it into an anime movie. I'm afraid they screw that Arc up so badly.
Yeah, I mean, when they do "planet-hopping" each senshi they meet deserves her proper episode. Otherwise it's too cramped with stuff and characters.

I agree. If they change again the character design, they should also change the director and give another professional (!) the chance.

But there is also space for negociation. Wasn't it also unlikely for Kazuko Tadano to work again for Toei?

A lot can change till 2030s. Let's keep ourselves in the present. Usually soon after character designs reveal they released art in magazines. Though if I remember correctly Season 3 waited a few months, but I might be wrong. Toei should really try and promote these films... They cannot expect a success without promotion and a movie needs it more. I hope we get some artwork soon. Actual high quality magazine spreads. With season 1 we got two, and I remember they showed a lot of the outers for season 3. If they are taking another whole year to release it, they better utilize it.

Have you watched any of Ikuhara’s recent anime? Negotiation is not on the table for him. There’s no way he’d be OK with being confined to the same manga that he wanted to subvert decades ago and ultimately left Toei over.

It’s not always about money, especially for a creative like him.

And it'll be nobody's fault but Naoko herself because that arc was terrible in all versions and nothing will make it better.

Honestly, the Stars arc would have made the most sense to adapt as a movie. Characters drop like flies right from the get-go, the last few chapters consist of one continuous fight, etc.
Yes, I agree. If they adapt it straight from the manga, the movie would work, considering the manga is so fast-paced. I think it would be better to leave it and never try, unless they actually take some liberties and ecpand on it in tv format, slowing down the pace and elaborate on plot points. But they won't do that and if they do the result might be even worse. I like the Chaos battle, Sailor Cosmos and the final battle, but when it comes to acyual ending, I prefer the Dream arc one. It is a complete story arc, there is no cliffhanger, it has a nice feel to it. I really don't like it when a show ends with a wedding. :D I would make exception if it is Michiru and Haruka's.

While Stars arc is short and fast paced, I still feel a standard movie is not enough to adapt the final battle, when Usagi learns about her origin and recalls her past villains. Maybe two movies for each of the first four arcs (1 hour 45 minutes for each) and 2.5 hours for Stars. I think the conversation with Sailor Cosmos is full of information that needs to be absorbed, and the wedding is one of the sweetest moments that every Sailor Moon fan wants to sink into.

I strongly disagree :D Stars doesn't deserve more attention than any other arc. Despite the fact I love the battle with Chaos and the revelations, a lot of stuff , it is clear Naoko was a bit out of ideas and all the wonderful relations with planetary, mythological and mineralogy symbols and relations were lost. Random names for random Sailors, repetitiveness, rushed plot lines and even the artwork and I don't know the right word, sorry, but I will say story-boarding is a bit chaotic. I don't see the arc on itself is bad, I just wanna say that strict adaptation, done by Toei will do it no justice and will further worse it, as they couldn't take handle of a straightforward arc such as Dark Kingdom, done zillion times by different mediums.

If a new Stars anime were to be produced, its title would no longer have the word "Crystal" nor "Eternal" (nor reusing "Stars," of course), but yet another new one like, say, "Cosmos." lol

I think the stars arc in the mang was fine, and the last chapter was good. Than again I like wedding endings.Which it was a perfect way to end the series. You saw this childish,a bit selfish, caring girl . Grew up into a woman .A couple the startof the series marrying each other .

Maybe they could do an alternative ending of the Stars season. It starts after the events in the 90s anime go very different ways and doesn't follow anymore the manga. I don't know which plot point this could be...maybe after princess Kakyuu appears? So they start new from there, with the original voice-cast and do two final movies or something like that, with the character design of Ikuko Itoh.

I mean we only need a 2.5 hours for Stars, instead of 1:45 x 2 like other seasons :)

Now someone create the logos for those dub titles & see how they'd look.

Logically, Stars should get two movies as well and like everyone has said before it will work better in that format considering how [BLEEP] hits the proverbial fan as early as the second act.

However, I can also see them doing something stupid like announcing a Sailor Moon Eternal TV series with one cour retelling the Season 4 movies, and then the second cour of episodes covering the Stars arc. (Something they have a precedent of doing already... See Dragon Ball Super.)

Stars will be a hybrid / multimedia adaptation, with each episode being adapted in each of the styles in which Sailor Moon has previously been / will soon be adapted.

In other words:

  • Stars 1 (Animated, TV episode)
  • Stars 2 (Live action episode)
  • Stars 3 (Musical episode)
  • Stars 4 (Video game episode)
  • Stars 5 (4D Experience episode)
  • Stars 6 (Animated, web exclusive episode)
  • Stars 7 (Audio drama episode)
  • Stars 8 (Restaurant show episode)
  • Stars 9 (Ice show episode)
  • Stars 10 (Kigurumi episode)
  • Stars 11 (Animated, theatrically released episode)

Jokes aside I doubt they will later adapt the Eternal film into tv shows, because they already subtitled it Crystal Season IV. If they find the movie format successful, they will make two films for Stars as well. I personally the two films, no matter of their quality, will bring sufficient amount of revenue, so I doubt they will go back to TV format.
