Sailor Moon licensed in Spain by Selecta Vision

This is the same company who has been releasing Mazinger Z on Blu-ray which like Sailor Moon, has yet to get a release in Japan (not counting the movies which got released in 2012). Wish there were screencaps of that upscale since I don't believe anyone posted any from those releases.

Also, I hope they keep the Japanese names. I saw some of their episodes many years ago, and the names they choose were worse than the three American dubs (the English, LAS, and BP dubs).

The lisp doesn't bother me, actually. It's how they dubbed the show that's really obnoxious. Calling them "Guerrero Luna" "Guerrero Marte" etc, and breaking the gender-grammar rule when introducing themselves...like for example "Soy una Guerrero..".

Their names were not the American ones either. I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Apparently something happened with the license and people on that side of Twitter are blaming Viz (US, not Europe).

The video is from a live stream of yesterday's Selecta Vision's panel at Japan Weekend Madrid and the tweet below is from the guy who streamed it (and I believe wrote the article).

I'm currently waiting for a translation but if anyone here knows Spanish, could you translate what the guy in the video is saying?

It's 2005 all over again.
Naoko paralyzed (sorry, I couldn't find a better word) every international licensing for the Sailor Moon anime thanks to something that happened with the Viz release.

Lots of people seem to be speculating it has to do with the Uranus/Neptune pamphlet drama?
It'll be morbidly funny if twitter outrage is the real reason Sailor Moon goes back into licensing hell.

But seriously, I hope whoever's responsible for this decision quickly realizes how catastrophic this will be for the brand.

And/or it could be that Viz's releases had mixed reactions, due to the first seasons having too much contrast and Viz's own edits that many of us caught. Not to mention that one of Viz's reps told us that the first set is a "collector's item", when people with 4:3 TV's can't see the small screen on a forced widescreen video.

Naoko's work cannot be messed around with, apparently. And Viz apparently became the only overseas licensed anime company to screw that up multiple times, despite Char's attempts to calm the storm of the internet.

If that's the case, I expect the worse of Toei to not renew the license to Viz in 2020 or 2021, since there was very few US Sailor Moon panels nowadays.

Other than that possibility, it could be because other countries are already finished with the classic series, except for Australia and US. Or it could be that Toei has been backstabbing the US with their "only masters available" until SuperS and Stars getting new masters...which may raise new questions than answers.

I'm guessing the most likely reason is something behind the scenes that fans are unaware of, since none of the current speculation going around makes any sense at all. Unless Naoko herself or someone from PNP or Toei says something, we'll probably never know just like last time.

Weird, since the anime isn't her work.
