Your opinion on leaving certain terms untranslated

Yeah, Legends of Localization has an article about how tricky it is to translate Shitennou. Some of you might already be aware, but for those who aren't this goes to show why there are no easy answers for this type of thing.

While the term itself is quite problematic in general, having all sort of nuances, none of them are crucial to the plot of Sailor Moon. They could have been called Squad 4 or whatever and nothing would have changed. They are not kings so I see all the translations having this notion very confusing for new readers.

That's an interesting read. I like the term Fearsome Four. I think it captures the essence of the meaning better than other alternatives or the literal translation. Of course, what is more appropriate to use always depends on context.

I am quite surprised that nobody in the fandom uses "warriors" as a translation of senshi. Maybe it doesn’t sound as good as guardians but 1. it is an accurate translation 2. at least we’d have guarding warriors instead of guarding guardians (already mentioned by someone).

As for the Ginzuishou, I don’t really care about the Mystic/Phantom/Legendary part, they usually say just Silver Crystal anyway (and I don’t see any reason for leaving it as Ginzuishou in a translation, the point of this name is to let the reader know that it’s a silver crystal)

I prefer Sailor Warriors to Sailor Guardians. I just think Sailor Soldiers fits better.

The ADV subs used Sailor Warriors, I think if those season sets weren’t released at the end of Sailor Moon’s original lifetime in the US and those sets weren’t poorly received the names would have stuck more.

The names of Haruka's and Michiru's helicopters have also gone untranslated so far. The Tokyopop and Kodansha translations of the manga, as well as Viz's dub and subs of Crystal Season III, have left them as "Tenohmaru" and "Kaiohmaru" (spellings vary). Miss Dream went with "S.S. Ten'ou" and "S.S. Kaiou" which is better. I'd go with something with a bit more flair: "HMS Sky King" and "HMS Sea Queen." (HMS = Her Majesty's Ship, Haruka Michiru Setsuna). I don't remember if Setsuna's helicopter was ever named; if so, I'd call it either "HMS Time Lord" or "HMS Gate Keeper."
