Apparently Fukano also came up with a concept for Super Sailor Moon's design:

From what I can make out, I'm not really a fan, but I definitely like it more than Sailor Moon le Cygne.
Well, at least it doesn't border on softcore porn like his Eternal design.
But the color palette makes the actual Eternal design look state-of-the-art in comparison.

Oh nice it is interesting to see Fukano's take on Super Sailor Moon. I would love if someone posted a more high quality picture of it so we could see it in detail.

More early design work from Fukano:

Hotaru looks younger and upbeat. Haruka... looks like a prototype Seiya and is wearing her manga outfit. Both her and Michiru seem way more down to Earth compared how they act in the series... it's kinda weird.

We were definitely better off with Naoko's design in this case, but this stuff goes to show you that fans' notion that the production of the original Sailor Moon anime was just Toei adapting Naoko's work is not fully accurate. Like it's clear a lot of stuff was being pitched behind the scenes and being discussed in a collaborative way. I also wouldn't be surprised if it was Toei requesting there be a Super Sailor Moon since that seemed to be their biggest marketing angle with the third arc...going as far as basically it naming "Super."

^ I honestly find Neptune wearing a bolo tie was more offensive.

I thought it was common knowledge, but I guess that people in the fandom might not know any better.
This particular Hotaru design is likely from when her color concept was Ochre before it was changed to Purple.

That makes so much sense. She also definitely has a more "earthy-vibe" to her in that pic. A more literal interpretation of the kanji that represents Saturn ("Earth Star").

I wonder how much of Haruka being black-haired at first played into her kind of playing a romantic foil to Mamoru in the manga, and the fact that she was initially presented as a Tuxedo Kamen analogue?

This is what the Eternal form should've been like: the skirt, the bow would tie into her future as NQS and the bow isn't completely gone. It looks like a clear progression, just as the original fuku ---> super fuku did.

Chainsmoker Girl Gang leader Makoto would've been fun, and Cyborg Ami is a little crazy but id love to see those concepts utilized in a different series/reboot.

I always going back and forth between Eternal Sailor Moon. On one hand, it's so jarring (and kinda ugly) when you look at it next to her other forms (even Sailor Cosmos makes more sense in context next to Super Sailor Moon and Neo Queen Serenity) and the other hand I kind of like how dramatic it is and how it kinda interrupts Sailor Moon's design ethos? There's something balls-y about it.

I think it's really the fact that everyone else looks so generic and removes everyone's individual design quirks. Like I'd rather keep everyone else in their Super form since Eternal was supposed to be this extra special form for Sailor Moon... Meanwhile the other girls still keep the SAME transformation phrases and attacks and end up getting curb-stomped in Stars, it's such a useless upgrade I don't even get why people were mad that the Sailor Stars anime didn't keep them?

Oddly I find the eternal costume looks great in Myu lol. You would think it would look ludicrous in live action, but strangely it looks good XD whereas in the anime I wish her Super form was her final form since it's fantastic, and her eternal form to me is a bit too over the top and kinda ugly.
