One day, after Sailor Moon Eternal - The Movie(s) will have been a huge success, there will be the next Crystal related project: the Stars Arc. With Eternal part1 coming this year (if Corona won't delay) and part 2 probably later this year or in 2021, I predict the announcement of Sailor Moon: Stars on the 30th of June 2022 as the 30th anniversary project. I expect them not only to announce a new character designer, but also a new director. Who would that be? Who would you like to direct it?

I pick Hideaki Anno, the director of Neon Genesis Evangelion. His view on the Stars arc could be quite philosophical and I would like Sailor Moon Crystal to end in a more grown up way. Hideaki Anni also worked already on Sailor Moon, right before he started working on Evangelion.

Who's your choice and why?

Hideaki Ano, are you like familiar with his track. He never manages budgets nor schedules. His projects are in limbo for decades, for Evangelion he was out of budget near the end of the show and for another show Kare/Kano he blew the budget and used manga pannels for huge portions of episodes.... He has his own studio, so he wouldn't work with Toei anyway. Let's be realistic, if they for some reason replace Kon it will be someone else Toei has worked with, most likely another Pretty Cure director.

Junichi Sato definitely, if possible. I was thinking of Junji Shimizu as I greatly enjoyed his work on Mazinger Z: Infinity (I was impressed and I had never even seen the franchise before and it made me a fan) and he directed some Precure movies, but his stuff usually tends to be hit and miss from what I know of.

I would like Junichi Sato. I absolutely love the overall series tone during Season 1 and the Hell Tree arc. It's the sweetest rendering of Sailor Moon to me.
Definitely.
It would have such an impact for me. It is like closing the circle that he started with the first season.

Juniji Satou would be a great choice. Still Stars arc is a mess, whoever directs it won't fix the problems. I am ok with Kon, she listened and dropped the over moe look for Dreams, so let's guve her a chance. She did a lot of good in Season 3 overall tone and story. Considering she might work on films for Stars, she won't be forced to use the flashbacks and overuse of stockfootage.

This!

If anything whoever directs it will get the same hate that everyone else has because they won't be able to fix Naoko's mess, especially if she stays as supervisor.

The only upside would be not getting any of that SHITtennou X Senshi arc. :yoshi:

Maybe she understands that the last arc needs some changes? I supppose the Eternal movies also need that.
Well, it is not some changes. The whole thing up to the last two chapters (which are amazing) is way too rushed and brisk. Still I think it is better for them to stick with the manga as we know how well they do changes in Crystal... Plus this is the probably only adaptation of the manga we are getting and many people like the Stars arc and it would bad for them robbing them of it being adapted faithfully.

I recently watched episode 14 and while I was initially very happy for them showing human Luna, the Artemis reaction open a plot whole for Stars. Senshix Shittenou, every change they made in act 6 and 10 made no sense, and act 11 made absolutely no sense, because of it. Plus I do not know if this is all on the director to blame or the writers. Stars feels like there are chapters missing, so I really don't envy them when it comes to adapt it and possibly have to make more cuts for film.

With Naoko‘s permission, a good writer and a good director can fill those plot holes and fill dem up with great content that supports the original story and extends it. Maybe Naoko herself comes up with ideas. We have to understand that the director of s1/2 and the writer for crystal s1-3 is gone. So we can‘t say that the changes will suck, based on season 1.
