the only ones wanting "different things" were those who didn't know or want it to be a manga adaptation. They're the ones responsible for the pandering.
I think two different things are being conflated. The pandering is for people who want Crystal to look and feel like the '90s anime, which is 100% not Crysternal doing its own thing.

Crysternal can still be a faithful adapation of the manga and do its own thing. In fact, I still think Eternal is still going to be faithful to the manga. It's just that a limited runtime is hopefully going to force them to not just adapt the manga panel by panel with no thinking about the overall structure of the film or pacing.

I love the new footage and Zirconia. The music is fitting and i love it as usual. As for the 80 minutes: not sure what to think about it. I know this account was right in the past but maybe he/she is wrong this time around? But even if its true i can still see this working just fine as long as Venus Dream isnt part of the first movie. The usual SM and SMC episodes were under 20 minutes anyway if you cut out the intro, outro, transformations, title cards, speeches, next episode tease and some flashbacks/repeated footage. Even then i can see Toei shortening the first act of Dead Moon Circus saga. For example they can get rid of scenes like Mamo buying the caleidoscopes, talking weapons, animals transforming into trio (they can be introduced as regular minions and change back into animals after their human bodies get killed by the senshi which would be a way for saving them), Chibiusa trying to get back to 30th century and failing, maybe even getting rid of the scene between sick Mamo and small Usagi from Mercury's dream, senshi visiting the circus after Mars dream? They dont have to make big changes to make the movie faithful while having the right flow.

If Venus dream is included it might be a mess though.
Its also possible 80 minutes is just a rough number this person heard but it could be 80+ in reality like 85 or 88
I really hope they actually approach this film with some creativity and not just "how many scenes can we remove so we can meet the 80 minute runtime" because that would just make for an incredibly [BLEEP] movie, no offense.

Seasons I-III marketed themselves as being ostensibly faithful, 1:1 adaptations of the manga, but they weren't. They didn't stick to the manga enough to really be a "faithful" adaptation, and they also didn't deviate enough to be considered a fresh, original take on the source material either. Everything was just completely half-hearted and dull. The absolute sloppiness of season 1/2, along with all the inconsistencies between season 1/2 and season III, only further confused Crysternal's identity and made fans increasingly dissatisfied and wistful for the more competent days of the '90s anime. The Eternal movies seem to be leaning into that nostalgia hard as a way of attempting to right this sinking ship of a project. Even though the animation quality still seems like it's going to be questionable, and the '90s stock footage copy and pasting is lame and boring, there seems to be a bit more love and passion being put into it. I'm hopeful it'll be faithful to the spirit of the manga, even if it doesn't include every scene and plot detail.

I would love some creativity, dont get me wrong. However if they plant to cut the movie into episodes later on they might want to stick to the s1-3 formula.

I think it says a lot that the only suggestions anyone seems to have here on how to adapt the Dream arc into an average length anime is how many and which scenes they need to cut... Instead of being able to imagine that the staff in this movie could exercise any sort of creativity?

It just speaks to the poor state of the franchise where there's just no expectation for any sort of new ideas. It's really sad.

I think it's probably going to be 90 minutes .To me it's to early to confirm the runtime.Since these films are going to be release next year.

I believe that seasons I-III are very faithful to the manga. I feel there was an attempt in season III to make Crystal a bit closer to the 90’s anime: change of art, oversimplified designs that feel distant to Naoko’s style; Naoko drew her characters slim and tall, sometimes intentionally disproportionate. But, regardless the source of season III is and always will be the manga. I do not believe there will be another Sailor Moon anime so intimately close to the manga as Crystal seasons I-III. If and when TOEI makes a new Sailor Moon anime, it’ll be a reboot or sequel that feels closer to the 90’s anime than to the manga.

In a way season 3 while removed from the manga as style is probably the most faithful adaptation as narrative. Especially compared to season 1.

Season 1 is great to binge-watch, but is as “messy“ as the Dark Kingdom manga arc. One of the problems fans have with season 1 are the shitennou x senshi pairings, but I am 100% certain that Naoko intended to develop this idea. We even see the senshi and the shitennou together in one of the manga’s illustrations. For all purposes and effects, I wholeheartedly believe that the senshi x shitennou pairings are canon. Moreover, I doubt that Naoko would allow TOEI to do something that she disapproved.

The other problem is Venus not impaling Beryl with the moon sword, but I believe that scene was modified because it really would look grisly on the screen. I was very surprised with the scenes in which Princess Serenity and Sailor Moon stab themselves with the sword. I thought they wouldn’t show those scenes, I thought the scenes would be only suggested (offscreen), but they showed the scenes— I know fans who weren’t happy with the scenes and wanted to see actual blood, but a grisly scene doesn’t belong in a shoujo anime, does it?

The first season has a lot more problems than that as far as faithfulness to the manga goes: watering down the girls' role and personalities (especially Rei), making nonsensical changes to the story (act 6 says hi), removing most of comedic moments and goofy faces...As for the art style, I don't see much resemblance to the manga. Naoko's characters aren't just pretty, they're also expressive. In the first two seasons of Crystal they have a bland, lifeless expression 90% of the time (during the remaining 10% they're off model).

I mean, there's also a title page of the girls celebrating Christmas, used for a chapter clearly not set at Christmastime. The title pages aren't part of the narrative. That SenxShi illustration was probably leftover from an earlier stage when that was an idea Naoko was more invested in, but she eventually dropped the idea. If she had stuck with it, I'm sure she would have handled it much better than Crystal did.

As for Venus not impaling Beryl: They could have easily done that scene in silhouette, or they could have had Venus use the sword to blast Beryl with a fatal energy attack. Changing it to having Usagi try and break Beryl's necklace - which had never once been alluded to as having had any significance whatsoever - shows how unbelievably inept Crystal's writer was.

I'm kind worried about the movies.I was hoping for 100 minutes. Now it means a lot stuff going to be cut. This probably only adaption for dreams. My favorite as a manga fan I'm kind disappointed .I don't want any important scenes cut off from Mamorou, inner senshi, Usagi, or Chibiusa.

Im pretty sure from what I've looked at from Crystal 1-2 and the manga, that it is pretty much spot on. The manga itself are static images and Crystal 1-2 definitely look more like the manga (when done properly) than Season 3 ever will. I am on Season 3 again and there are about as much wonkiness in it (if not more) than 1-2. Upon closer inspection, the style is a step doen from even the original. I was watching the episode where Ami jumps out of the window to transform and the episode kinda looked a mess. Still cool when she jumped out of the window into the pool though. At least in Crystal 1-2 when they did their speeches, they didn't look so stiff and "basic" as Season 3.

In any case, I think Eternal will turn out fine. There's not much we can do but either love it or hate it when it comes out. I'm not even worried about it that much to be honest. I still wanna see a trailer soon though.
