So...anyone want to talk about how Usagi just...casually knows how to use a sword?

And she's like really good at it? I mean, the only reason Galaxia didn't end up skewered was because Usagi suddenly got enlightenment and went Merciful Mother Goddess mode. But she did manage to correctly block Galaxia's blow (using the flat of the blade, someone on the animation staff did their homework.) So, Sailor Moon can duel the strongest Sailor Scout on her level using her weapon? Even in Crystal she looked pretty confident with a sword in her hand.

Yep. Any magical girl that can spin a wand like a helicopter, I'd consider at least cable of welding a sword.

Heck in her Eternal form she doesn't even use her hands at all.

Usagi/Sailor Moon is dangerous.

They obviously get to know combat skills after makeup.
If that's the case, then why was Sailor Moon so clumsy and uncoordinated even in combat at first? While I can agree some combat knowledge may be passed along, at no time was it indicated swordplay was in those skillsets.

I’m more impressed on how talented she is with a throwing discus even in her earth form.
Practice makes perfect. I like the idea that some of the physical fighting done when transformed does transfer over into muscle memory when depowered.

In any case, our heroine's combat skills ultimately come down to plot convenience without justification. At least when it's magic beams, it's easier to suspend disbelief as those are completely impossible, but the more realistic the fighting gets, the harder it is to swallow.

She was still 10 times better than before makeup.

I think she got the knowledge, but lacks of the cool to correctly use them sometimes. Still she was quite smart in the first few episodes.

And how good she was using Tiara Action with a pizza. I also love it when she uses "Therapy Kiss" She's not even twirling the wand with her hand. Its literally levitating.

when I first noticed this I couldn't stop laughing

I don't understand why it's so surprising that Usagi can use a sword. After all, she's actually a ninja.

If somebody spends so much time in a Game Arcade it wouldn't really surprise me that if she played stuff Legend of Zelda & Price of Persia, she would eventually end up knowing somewhat how to handle a sword (Even if she usually sucks at Video Games). ;)
