Because I just can't be the only one wondering over this: Episode 108 clearly occurs in summer in the Inner Senshi's 9th Grade (what with the Inner Senshi taking advantage of Mamoru's air-conditioning). And Episode 144 blatantly states it's summer and the Inner Senshi are still in 9th Grade!

Yup, Super S timeline is super wacky for me.

They spent two years in 8th grade between Classic and R

Its not unique to SuperS
Didn't Usagi/Sailor Moon sort of reset time at the end of Classic, making it as if the Dark Kingdom events didn't happen?

Have you ever watched The Simpsons? The characters have celebrated Christmas a dozen or so times, yet they haven't aged a day. It's called a floating timeline and it's very common in animated series.
Thank you for the mentioning "The Simpsons". That's the best example of the floating timeline. Back to Sailor Moon, it too has a floating timeline.

So, what would happen if one really wants to pin down a specific timeline for Super S?

Super S is equivalent to Acts 39-43
Sailor Stars Neherenia Arc is equivalent to Acts 44-49
That is the plan for the Anime even before Ikuhara left, Ikuhara implied it when mentioning about the Super S Movie when he said that the Super S movie is the first time Uranus and Neptune will appear.

Yeah SuperS timeline is messy, specially because TOEI forgot they're supposed to enter in High school after spending hours in S Season studying for their exam entrances.

You don't even see the Inners one time in school uniforms during this season. Actually the only time you see them in school is in the short film Ami First's Love; which imply that they passed their exams around the time they got their power ups from Pegasus (around the end of the Amazon Trio) because Ami had her new wand to transform... Still the continuity here is wrong, the manga / eternal movie don't have the issue.

The only explanation for me is that from the moment the Dead Moon Circus arrived on Earth they're kind of stuck in a time loop / dream loop... but that my unofficial explanation.

That is because they planned to Split the Deadmoon Arc into two from the beginning.

Deleted and Altered Scenes from the 90s Anime?

No they just decided to redirect the show on Chibiusa that's all.
Yes, but Splitting the Dream Arc into two was part of that plan.

And again this isn’t specific to SuperS. The girls should have moved to grade 9 roughly around the the time of the kindergarten bus episode in R. They should have been high school students in S and Sailor Stars should have been their final year in high school. Not their first.

Yeah true but it’s less notable in the other season because in S they’re specially spending the all season to study to successfully achieve their high school exams and they mention it all the time. And suddenly in SuperS they don’t mention it at all anymore and they don’t spend one day in school for the all year (don’t even wear the uniform in one single episode if I remember it). So they knew somehow that they wanted to remain discreet about the topic.

That is basically related to their plan to divide the Dream Arc into two and focus on Chibiusa on Super S, which happened when Ikuhara was there, so having Ikuhara and Itou leave messed up the plan regarding Sailor Moon, the Manga also changed direction from Act 52 onwards which I doubt would happen had the original plans for the Sailor Stars happened, Sailor Stars was adapted from a previous draft storyline of the Manga (which had a different backstory for Galaxia from the Anime and Manga), not the actual manga storyline in the Stars.

Sure but they could have still changed the focus to Chibiusa without [BLEEP]ing up the timeline with the high school. I mean we could have seen them entering in high school at the beginning of the season and just not mention it after. And not play like they don't remember that the girls are supposed to go to school.

I agree.
The plotline of Super S happened between Grade 9 and their HighSchool in Neherenia Arc, parts of the Nehelenia arc were also based on the manga finale of the infinity arc aside from the Dream Arc, those got cut from S and put in Sailor Stars Nehelenia Arc.

The original plan was to upgrade Sailor Moon to Eternal Sailor Moon in Ep. 166 and likely the other Senshi in 172 but that did not materialize, changing the people involved made it much worse because they scrapped the originally planned plot of Sailor Stars as well as the final episode of Super S.

Ikuhara also scrapped his original plan for Sailor Moon to upgrade to Eternal in Episode 166, I think that might have not happened if he was part of Sailor Stars.

Elios was originally planned to return in Neherenia Arc as well.

The real supposed adaptation of Dream Arc IS Neherenia Arc.
