So - what are the chances they will edit and make episodes from the movies? I have to say I enjoyed more the series format. The first part is very episodic anyways, and the 2nd part suffers a lot from bad pacing.
Didn't happen with Digimon Kizuna plus Tri never had a TV airing with those episode cuts.

Maybe they will for the DVD/Bluray release one day?
Both films came out last year so there would be no point in cutting them up now.

A lil comparison with the new Dragon Ball Super movie:

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the second anime film in the Dragon Ball Super franchise, opened at #1 on Saturday .The film sold about 498,000 tickets for about 670 million yen (about US$4.99 million) in its first two days.
500,000 tickets were sold over the weekend at 407 screens which managed to beat out Top Gun Maverick.

For Eternal:
The first film in the two-part Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal (Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal The MOVIE) anime film project dropped from #9 to #10 in its second weekend. The film earned 21,859,180 yen (about US$210,600) from Friday to Sunday, and has earned a cumulative total of 117,373,840 yen (about US$1.13 million).
The first part of the two-part anime film Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie was released in 127 theaters in Japan on January 8, 2021. The number of theaters showing the film was less than half of that of a major film. Toei Animation's previous anime feature film Majo Minarai wo Sagashite (Looking for Witch Apprentices) / Looking for Magical Doremi, also distributed by Toei, had the same 127 theaters in its first weekend.

The Doremi movie also had around the same numbers as Eternal (about US$1.47 million on its second weekend) and the Precure movie released before Doremi's movie did about US$3.11 million after its 4th week (US$1.03 million on the opening weekend and it did the half on the second weekend).

And the full film got leaked for everyone to see within 48 hours after it's premiere (shorter wait time than Broly) through a guy's cameraphone.

Got any info with Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman?

May be Hideaki Anno should direct the future of :usagi: films. In the west it's gonna have to be Michael Bay just so :usagi: will reach Transformers levels of ultra mainstream status. Surely Naoko will finally have a Lamborgini parked alongside her Porsche. :googly:

To this day I still believe each Eternal film only cost less than $100,000 to produce. May be even less.

We wouldn't have this problem (at least not as much of it) if they would produce a new anime series with interesting plot and what not. The series is a Classic but I'm sure people are tired of seeing the same thing over again. They don't have enough creative freedom to do anything with it but hopefully some will be given to Cosmos...but I won't keep my hopes up THAT high.

Expecting a big haul of people to theaters for SM:E after what a mess the series has been is just foolish. I don't know what Toei has been thinking from the beginning. Even holding that women-only event to premiere the first episode when it looked even worse than the horrible online broadcast it ended up getting.

That said, I feel it's worth pointing out that the first movie launched in Japan when there were concerns regarding COVID-19 spiking. And on the day of the second film's launch, Japan saw the peak of its worst spike yet (what timing) of 98,000 cases in a single DAY. Japan kept on hustling as usual for the most part during the pandemic, but I tend to think that just like everywhere else, there were people who went to work or school because they had to but may not have wanted to go out and be in public places for leisure activities. Especially not for a movie adaptation of a manga that came out nearly 30 years ago.

I have false hopes for a Shin PGSM. ^_^'
It could be both: a new live-action series of one of the five arcs or a brand new story, & an anime about some 30-something women who've been fans since their childhood but have now become working women or housewives facing various problems such as the conflict between their career & family, looking after kids w/ psychological disorders, infidelity of their husband &/or themselves, the burden of being a single parent, the anxiety & family pressure of still not getting married, etc. & seeking refuge/guidance in their childhood favorite show. As tokusatsu & anime are separate depts. in Toei, they could simultaneously handle both shows. :)
