What Sailor Moon can learn from the MMPR live action movie's failure

Sure most of the Sailor senshi isn't that Japense(other than Rei and probably Ami), some of them might look better as white. the villains would probably work better as white. But it's not worthy to go that path, it would mostly turn out to be "have diversity for the sake of diversity" or even...

What Sailor Moon can learn from the MMPR live action movie's failure

Different shows, and PGSM proved that a full Japanese/Asian cast could work beside special effect/costume issue. Race Swap could work, but in modern day I doubt they would do it well, so nah.

What Sailor Moon can learn from the MMPR live action movie's failure

They do, they even got development, you can see Kimberly changed from a valley girl into a strong woman. Billy also got away from his nerdy part to be the backbone. Other than Trini was a bit bland, the others all got personality. I do like the PGSM cast, it's cool to have full Asian cast as...

What Sailor Moon can learn from the MMPR live action movie's failure

It's not even dark and grim, they got some family issue sure, but the real villain conflict was too chessy.

What Sailor Moon can learn from the MMPR live action movie's failure

Since both of them are inspired by Sentai series. I think Sailor Moon could look at its failure if they want to make a live action movie 1. Don't rewrite the characters too much. The movie turned everyone from cool teens with minor flaw into troubled kids, which distanced the characters from...

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

I really don't understand why so many ppl mistook Beryl's manga character. Sure if I could rewrite it, I would make her sympathetic and truly have feeling for Endymion, but in the actual manga she simply wanted him as a trophy and wanted to rule the world, not much different than in the anime.

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

No, most of the ppl knew The Little Mermaid as it is, sorry. It is one of the most famous fairy tales through the world and ppl already loved it for hundreds of years. The original tale didn't tell us her name, which is why Ariel was famous. If you ask most of the ppl what happened to her. Most...

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

She is Caucasian, even ancient Egyptians were not considered to be pure black. If we go with the details, then black ppl have a lot of diversity among them, I don't think it's wise to go on with it. Other examples like Othello is not actually the black we think today, but a Moor.

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

Not really. Little Mermaid's original tale was good enough and Disney's take turned it into some generic good vs evil. Such story would not last for so long and become so outstand. Sorry why can't he? He was in life danger, his worst time, the beautiful girl showed up to save him. It is very...

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

Because. that. is. what. the. fairy. tale. told. us. Toei simply followed the fairy tale. And it's totally reasonable that the prince would treat some random cute girls like that. He is the superior authority. Also I don't see the prince being any wrong, he made clear that he loves the girl...

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

It would have to avoid the problem of the Power Ranger movie. You need enough action and no go too far with the characters' original personality.

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

PGSM was already a good show other than bad special effects/costume. Most of the cast were quite good as well. But as a movie, I don't think it have the time to build characters well.

Disney's attempt to adapt Sailor Moon

Disney can make their decision and ppl have the rights to not agree with it. They didn't create the character/fairy tale and it didn't become famous because of them, not at all. If Disney really want to do it, they have to adapt these groups' own culture and characters, not to race swap a...

Do you think it was right to let Kotono Mitsuishi reprise Usagi?

I think some of them did return, just voicing different roles.
