I'm 99 percent sure this art is just the art from the Sailor Moon S vol 1. laserdisc, altered to be Super Sailor Moon.
Sure is

I hate his work. His colours lack so much depth and he basically traces Ikuko Itos work. I hated the cover for the R movie. In fact I really dislike the covers for Viz release of the 90’s anime.
That cover is not from Marco. Its from another artist. He is not making any Sailor Moon official artwork anymore. They didnt hire him for the R Movie cover for the USA edition.

I think we can safely say that he’s well beyond “fan artist” status since he’s pretty much been their go-to person for years when it comes to anything 90s anime related lol!
I think he's been & is still a fanartist, while also being an official artist for the franchise nowadays. :)

The biggest giveaway to me that the R cover isn't Marco's art is because it actually has a background. All of his stuff looks flat in part because it's typically just a character floating in space.

Still, not a fan of the cover. Better than that Naruto one, though, yikes.

Is Marco on these forums? He would be good doing stickers for Sailor Moon. His style looks like it would make nice stickers.
From my understanding he doesn’t speak English and uses autotranslation, which may explains why his attitude seems a little clumsy sometimes. I really don’t know what happened with this Rose of Versailles drama, he is a sweet person IRL and it seems really weird from him doing such a thing, and not good for his career. He already had problems some years ago when he corrected some Saintia Sho shots, tagging Toei if I recall correctly... One of Saint Seiya’s proeminent animator told him it wasn’t a good idea to do this.

He took the original drawing (US), modified by saying this is the real version (corrected version) ... Who does he think he is to denigrate the work of others? It is known that for Sailor Moon, without Sailor Moon, the guy would have remained in the most complete anonymity.
His personal creations are hideous, the dude has an oversized ego. Sorry, frankly, he is to be forgotten.
Glad Toei and the rights holders (other editors) fall on him to put it back in place.

Final off topic toughts. I always wandered why couldn't Toei just let the rest of the world use their original art. It felt really cheap, and not just with the covers, but mostly with the character booklets... While the Japanese dvds and blu rays always used original artwork, except for the ugly big season boxes.

I think they will announce the Jaanese blu ray release on Jube 30th and nothing else. And they will be like buy it in August or September...
I know I’m repeating myself but I wonder if they will correct some faces to give the whole thing a less patchwork-look. I don‘t understand why they don‘t let one chief animation director make sure that all faces look coherent to the character design. Wouldn‘t that be something basic and fundamental?

I think they did their best in part 1. Some problems occured in part 2 due to the fact that they had to work from home.

I think they will fix some stuff. They admitted part 2 was done in a rushed way. Also they should know from s1 and 2 this affects sells at least a bit. But then it has bever reached usual Crystal derpiness... So who knows... I hate this practice of multiple animation directors that give them vastly different look as well, in the movies it looks less noticeable at least. Still it would be great if they fix some of the Usagi shots. For some reason the main character looks like the least consistent and off model in many shots we have seen. It is weird to mess up with Usagi.

No matter what your opinion on individual animators, I think it's really weird that both the 90s and current series have a real issue with consistency in character designs. Switching animation directors in the 90s had pretty weird impacts on how it looked from episode to episode, let alone season to season, and obviously Crystal S1-Eternal have gone through major stylistic changes. I guess the patchworkness of the second film is just part of the pattern, lol.

I just hope the final arc gets the treatment it deserves. It's the send-off to this reboot and the manga. It'd be nice if it was just a bit more consistent and good looking? Lol.
