On this day 21 years ago in 1997, the original Sailor Moon anime wrapped up its run after five seasons and 200 episodes. It was the last Sailor Moon ep for six years (the live-action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon), the last animated Sailor Moon ep for 17 years (Sailor Moon Crystal, Y U NO COME BACK?!), but at that time, it marked the end of an amazing journey.

I remember sitting on IRC while the last episode aired, watching someone in Japan basically live-blogging it as it happened.

Man, I feel old.

11 years for me. A friend of my sister lent us a bootlegged copy of the entire Japanese series and was watched every episode for I think three months or so.

I first saw episode 200 sometime in 1999. It felt like an end of an era. It remains one of my favorite episodes.

I recall watching a low quality Real Player raw download of episode 200 around 98 or 99 but I didn't ever see a fansub of it until the pre-simulcast digital fansub era of the early 2000s. I was still new to anime then so I remember being shocked at how much nudity an animated show could have. Happy anniversary to the last episodes of the original anime.
