This episode was okay, but it definitely wasn't as good as the previous episodes. There was a noticeable drop in the animation quality, and because of how dense this chapter of the manga is, and because they tried to cram it all into this one episode, it ended up being very rushed. I was very disappointed that we didn't get to see Eudial's Medusa form, which I always thought was so cool/creepy in the manga. Mars Snake Fire was also pretty lame looking.

Still annoyed that they kept the Haruka/Usagi kiss Looking at screenshots of that moment, it actually looks like she only kisses Usagi on the cheek, rather than on the mouth. Of course, that might be the result of bad animation rather than an intentional story change. What does everyone else think?

On the plus side, I did think the music in this episode was really great. In the past two episodes I've felt the music was a bit lacking. And at least this time we only had to sit through two transformation sequences (and no speeches!). :)

Overall this was a pretty average episode. Hopefully this will be the season's low point and it will all be uphill from here.

While still good, I felt this episode suffered from pacing issues. It felt very rushed.

Wishing they would have split up more episodes than just the first act. Overall though, I thought it was still good.

First off, I think it's safe to confirm they're changing where each act begins and ends!! They included the kiss from Act 29.

I think the animation, while not as good as the previous act, looked pretty great. Honestly, this looks better than a lot of Toei shows out there. At the very least, there feels like they're putting more key frames into scenes. It's certainly leagues away from Act 3.

I agree that the pacing was way too fast, even for Crystal's standards. With that said, it was kind of expected and I think they tried to keep in more scenes rather than cutting them out of the show, which has upset fans before. I'm so happy the entirety of Rei's birthday was preserved and it was great seeing two Inners interact with each other which is pretty rare in the manga.

Mars Snake Fire looked pretty cool to me! I was more upset that it seemed like Mars and Jupiter were having a hard time beating Eudial. However, I really liked Mercury rescuing them, and then her and Venus holding onto Mars and Jupiter. They feel much more like a team now to me.

Overall a good episode, and I'm happy.

I also liked how Venus & Jupiter were hugging and Mercury & Mars were hugging at the end. That was really cute. Rei's birthday party was cute too. A lot of great little character moments in this episode, which are always appreciated. I just wish the pacing had been better.

I also liked the new eyecatch image of Uranus and Neptune together, but it was a bit weird that they followed it with the solo Uranus one. Maybe next episode they'll reuse it and follow it with the solo Neptune eyecatch?

ETA: Upon rewatching the ending, it does look like Uranus is indeed kissing Usagi on the mouth; the animation was just a bit strange so in stills it wasn't clear what she was kissing. So yeah. Disappointed. I hope they actually address it properly instead of using it as just another rushed moment in Crystal's patented whiplash method of storytelling. And so help them if they show Uranus and Moon kiss but not Uranus and her actual girlfriend kiss.

I noticed that as well. I'm wondering if when Pluto makes her reappearance, they'll have an eyecatch with her? Maybe Neptune and Uranus together, and Pluto and Saturn together?

It was yet again pretty amazing episode. The animation had few iffy moments but nothing really "in your face" bad. Overall the quality is still very good which is amazing. The new music pieces were sooooo good. Mars Snake Fire looked ace. While im kinda sad about Eudials medusa form i was glad to see more Eudial because in manga she dies way too easily. And yay for Mercury saving the day. Scenes with Haruka and Michiru once again were great. Im so gald they changed the ending moment again. And the humour yet again was cool and cute. The pacing was very fast but thats what we're have to deal with.

Again 10/10. This season so far is very strong

The animation level definitely dropped a little bit, there were alot of weird eyebrow shots/weird angles in general, and the pacing was a bit quick, but other than that I have hardly any other complaints. Easily my favourite episode of the new season.

There was enough humour that it was entertaining without being annoying, the girls were characterised extremely well, the fight had Jupiter and Mars struggling without making them overly weak, and overall this is what I really wanted. The last episode especially kinda made me nervous but this is definitely the direction I was hoping it would go. It was creepy, serious, but had moments where the girl's youthfulness and character shone through and it was amazing. Makoto was adorable, Rei was mysterious, Ami was her cute little nerdy self, and Minako was perfect both in and out of Senshi form. Awesome characterisation, and definitely one of the strong points of this season so far. Good job Toei ^^

Hotaru and Professor Tomoe though!?!?! Perfect. Perfect voices, perfect mood for them, just perfect. They've done really well with keeping the creepy tone of the villains in this season, which is something I think the last 2 seasons definitely had a strong point in. The villains were terrifying in those seasons and I'm glad to see they've maintained that now.

Overall, fabulous episode and easily my favourite so far. That eyecatch was really weird though? (One of Uranus and Neptune, and then a solo Uranus?? I guess we'll be seeing a solo Neptune eyecatch next episode?)

Yeah the scenes with Hotaru were so well done. Very atmospheric and creepy.

Is it just me, but that scene felt like a deliberate contrast with Mamoru putting Chibiusa to bed in the Black Moon arc? I always liked the idea of Prof. Tomoe being Mamoru's evil opposite (similar to the Witches 5 and the Inner senshi).

Good point about Mamoru being the opposite of Prof. Tomoe as father!! ;)
BTW is it just me or Haruka's voice sounds like Jadeite's one? :orly: (uh, well, I am just obsessed with Jadeite, I think).

By the way, anyone notice the reference to Rei's grandfather? I guess we'll definitely see him in Dream.
Yes!! I freaked out at that part thinking "yessss they kept his character in!"

Apparently Rei's grandpa does exist in the Crystal canon wich makes me pretty happy! Though it's weird that they never mentioned him before.

Overall it was a decent episode. The best part of it was Rei and Mako team up  I wish they lasted a bit longer against Eudial. I also find it weird that Mercury managed to put out the fire with Aqua Mist. Shine Aqua Illusion would've been more appropriate.

I knew it was too soon to worry about Crystal becoming too much like the 90s anime. Like I expected, the extra funny scenes were just padding for all that extra time. I think this episode should quell fears we'll see a group transformation every time too. They even cut out Mars and Jupiter's speeches!

Another fantastic episode for me. It was rushed just like the manga chapter, but as far as adapting the chapter goes, it did well. Goes to show you can keep all the Inners' moments of personality and still have time to faithfully adapt everything the manga covers. Really my only Crystal-only complaint was the lack of Eudial's Daimon Form. But at least she got to put up a bit more of a fight than she did in the manga.

I was glad that they kept that line. I actually think it worked well to casually reference him like that. Now his sudden appearance in Dream won't be as surprising for people who haven't read the manga. XD

I think Aqua Mist fits better than Aqua Illusion.

Also, I'm glad they are changing the cliffhangers, so everything can happen from now on.
