Why haven't the townspeople noticed or become concerned about how they've all wandered the streets vandalizing property twice
Because they were brainwashed, you don't remember what happens when you're brainwashed. They most probably thought some kind of storm was responsible, even if they don't remember it happening.

7th Doctor: Your (Human) species has an amazing capacity for self-deception!

Also terrible animation? I thought it was good quality. And I think that's a bit pessimistic saying they won't fix it, since we've seen evidence that have improved it for the DVD's.
Err, yeah, but they aren't brainwashed when they wake up and see everyone else in the town standing around them in the same confused situation. Come on. If you woke up not remembering anything and were surrounded by people who also just woke up and don't remember anything, you'd be pretty damn concerned, and people would talk about it, not just stroll home together and go to bed.

I don't know what to say to you if you think the animation was good quality. Compare it to episode 5. They are leagues apart. And it's not pessimistic for me to say the won't fix it. There is more wrong with this episode than any other, so they would literally need to redraw the whole thing. I just don't see that happening.

I'm thinking that Mamoru and Uasgi is now main characters, the other senshis are just sub characters (Act 4, Act 6 and Act 7) :( :( :( ...His and Usagi's love and character development is more than all senshis...Then it should change the name into Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen Crystal... :dead:

Excuse me, I'm not an artist. And I really don't care that much about animation, just as long as it looks good and it moves. And from a laymen's perspective (which is me) I thought it looked excellent.

You haven't seen Doctor Who then? ;) And who knows they probably were concerned, we just didn't see it because why would we need too?

The anime is following the manga, which was always about Usagi and Mamo. Besides if it was about the guardians wouldn't the show be called Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians Crystal.

Not everyone has seen Doctor Who, I didn't even know it existed until not long ago...

This epiosde was better than the last one on many levels.

Upsides
Mamoru-Usagi relationship is better in those 7 episodes than in the entire old anime
No weird angles!!!!
Queen Metalia and Beryls past

Dowsides
Still no Mercury-Zoisite scene
I agree. (Though perhaps Mercury being the first to attack Zoisite was also meant to be a sign of their connection? Who knows.)

Possible but thats VERY vague compared to Jadeite-Mars and Nephrite-Jupiter. Jadeite felt drawn to Rei, there was some tension and action between them and he was cursing her afterwards, same with Nephrite: he recognised her look and later in episode 6 he said she'll pay for what she did.

With Zoisite there's no such thing. Ami's attack hit him (ep 6) but he was fighting with the other two aswell, same thing in this episode. Zoisite didnt mention Mercury even once or any past references.

Maybe we'll get Venus-Zoisite now that Venus hurt him? :mischief:

Well put it this way Dalek invasion of Earth in 1963, after the invasion everything goes back to normal.

Dalek Invasion of Earth in 2009. Earth is moved to a different part of the universe. After it's over, life returns to normal.

The same logic applies to Sailor Moon, self-deception.

Episode 7

This time the theme song starts without its opening notes, jump right into the sung part.

The subs for Makoto’s and Minako’s lyrics are still switched.

Usagi: “How did you become Tuxedo Mask?” - - “How” should be “Why”.

The flashback of the car crash actually gives us a look at some the moments Mamoru spent with his parents before the accident, including an actual glimpse of his parents.

“God.” - - not too sure how accurate that translation is.

Before Usagi leaves, Mamoru stops her for a moment and calls her “Usako” for the first time.

On her way, Usagi decides to call Mamoru “Mamo-chan”.

At the Secret Base, which has some very Greek-looking architecture in it, Luna is communicating with someone who seems to be Sailor V. ;)

First true appearance of Queen Metalia.

And we get a flashback to pre-queen Beryl finding the Dark Kingdom and Metalia at D-Point. And even in back then, Beryl had long, pointy fingers.

In the present, Beryl isn’t 100% fully loyal to Metalia and wants the Silver Crystal for herself.

The sign on the store is subbed as “Rental Shop Dark”. And in this version, it’s a DVD rental store instead of a video rental store.

Ami’s doing research on Sailor V.

Umino turns into a black silhouette that looks not too unlike Professor Tomoe in the 90’s anime.

“V-chan” is kept in the subs.

Usagi can’t find her handkerchief, not knowing she dropped it at the masquerade before and that Mamoru has it now.

Even in the manga, I was a little weirded out by Usagi and Mamoru rubbing their faces into the objects belonging to the other person.

The Sailor V game sprite is speaking to Usagi again.

The transformation sequences for Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter are skipped and bypassed in this episode.

“Moon Prism Power, Make up!” is subbed like so.

Sailor Moon displays some great competence by immediately starting with Moon Healing Escalation from the get-go.

Sailor Moon’s speech is subbed as “You imposed upon innocent people… it’s an unforgivable sin! I will punish you in the name of the Moon…”

The attacks in this show are huge compared to those of the 90’s anime!

Sweet! Tuxedo Kamen punched Zoisite in the face!

Zoisite manifests a large crystal to kill Sailor Moon with, like he once did in the 90’s anime.

In this version, the fifth Sailor Soldier blasts the crystal instead of Zoisite himself.

But she does strike him with her compact, non-fatally though.

Cliffhanger ending on her arrival.

Next episode is the big moment we've waited for.

I have seen Dr. Who, and guess what? Sailor Moon is not Dr. Who. Any explanation for why weird things happen in the Dr. Who universe does not magically apply to every other piece of story-telling.

We need to see people concerned because it would make the story LESS ABSURD.

You might have low standards for animation, but a lot of people don't.

Well I could suggest, that you should not take the content that seriously. Don't forget it's a show about girls that magically transform into Sailor Fukus. It's ALREADY absurd.

Excuse me, I said I didn't care much for animation, that doesn't mean I always expect bad animation.

In fact I don't think I like how you said I have low standards, like I'm no one. There are also many people who care more about other content than the specifics of animation.

I have a problem with absurdity when it's a symptom of lazy storytelling.

Girls from other planets in little sailor fuku fighting evil? It's silly, but that's the premise, and I'll roll with it, especially because there is a decent explanation for the schoolgirl part (young Japanese girls can identify with them). Nobody recognizes them even though they look exactly the same after they transform? Not fine, and I really appreciated how PGSM made them look different for this reason.

Perhaps I'd take less issue with the townspeople's lack of concern about their repeated fugue states if there wasn't a newspaper story run about Sailor Moon. If people know about Sailor Moon, they know some kind of [BLEEP] went down. If they know [BLEEP] went down, they'd be talking about it. But they aren't. Honestly, I've always had an issue with how the townspeople are put through the ringer over and over and there's never any follow up.

For an example of better storytelling in regards to similar issues, you could look at Madoka. The witches affect individuals in an emotional way, and the battles with them occur within separate dimensions. When the big baddie appears and starts messing up the whole city, people certainly notice (because she causes a storm) and they all hide in shelters. When Madoka tries to leave, her mother stops her, as any mother would...but they come to a mostly unspoken understanding about who Makoka is and what she needs to do. It's a really powerful scene. Sailor Moon doesn't do these things. It just wants us to believe no one notices repeated large-scale events and nobody's mothers wonder where they hell their daughters are going.

It's not lazy, there's only 24 minutes of story you can do. You can't show everything, it's impossible.

And as I said the people's reactions to what happened is not important! I came to watch Sailor Guardians defeating evil creatures, not the politics of social security.

Why do we need to see their reactions? We don't! We just need to see that they're okay, and the whole identity thing I don't see how PGSM improved upon it, they were the same girls with the same faces, voices and hairstyles, the colour of said hair was just different, but that's it.

Small off-topic: I love your new avatar

And, yes, you can't fit everything in an episode, and now animes aren't as long as they used to be when the first anime aired, so the number of episodes is more limited and they can't divide too many of them into two as some series used to do.

I'm a little surprised at all the complaints on the bigger focus on Mamoru. That's to be expected given how closely Crystal is following the manga. Are all people on this forum not aware of that? :? "Sailor Moon" (the original manga) isn't about the senshi in particular, but mostly (gasp) Sailor Moon. And Mamoru is the biggest part of her life.

Anyways, this episode was pretty decent, though the animation was down a notch again. The only thing that annoys me is how much more powerful Zoicite is relative to the senshi. He can easily dispatch them with one blast. I wished the fighting was a little more balanced and evenly matched.
