In the manga? The one where giant flea tick type monsters burst out of students' bodies at Mugen Academy?? Sure why not.

In the '90s anime, I'm gonna go with "only as a final boss monster, possibly", a la Metallia or Death Phantom or Pharaoh 90. The trend seems to be that monsters of the week are at most kind of creepy demon humans (Morga) but usually just wacky silly stuff (the vast majority... Boxsy), and often also sorta sexualized (all the Daimohns for example, or Boxsy), but final bosses are creepy and theme breaking. (They also like to put weird demons in the intros, like those face things in the second intro of season 1, or that big shadowy angel phage thing in the Stars intro, or the twisty tornado demon in the first version of the Stars intro).

There is some fairly dark imagery even in the anime- Nephrite's injuries or the backstory of Hotaru and Professor Tomoe for example. So it's conceivable in the right context.

I can't really see it in Crystal though, at least not from my familiarity with just the first season. They removed almost all of the really gruesome stuff from the manga, and the scariest thing they were left with was some glowy eyed zombies moaning all over the planet who all got better, so I dunno.

Now, in other magical girl genre shows working from a blank slate, I'm going to say definitely yes I could imagine this. It's a pretty wide genre.

Isn't that just a shadowed version of Galaxia's face?

Weird, I don't know why. I guess as a replacement, how about these guys?

Draugr Scourge Lord

Vampire Lord

Dark fantasy

I love these, especially the last one.
I also like that last one, which looks pretty interesting. Wonder about its physiology - wish the artist could also do a pic of it showing its internal organs, complete w/ their names & brief descriptions of their functions. :D

It actually reminds me of a boss from Skyrim, Witcher and God of War all together.

All which I'm a big huge fan of.
