Indeed, that does explain the wings that appear in the Moon Crystal Power transformation. To think, I didn't think the attacks could get any more Engrish.

These proto names make me wonder if they come up with these names because they hadn't been revealed in the manga, or were these actually going to be the attack names for both the anime and the manga until an editor stepped in. I don't know how the production process went, but this suggests there was even less internal communication between Toei and Naoko Takeuchi than I previously believed.

Some of the changes were for the better, some were for the worse, and some were neutral. Specifically, I'm glad they changed Ail's sacrifice to An's sacrifice, as well as removing Chibi-Usa's spiteful thought about letting go of Usagi's hand (she had grown since then, and the anime changed her motivations for becoming Black Lady to being rooted to her pre-time travel escapades).

Episode 90: There was supposed to be a scene of Grandpa Hino performing a fire ritual

Episode 91: The abandoned house occupied by the cats was originally set to be a dilapidated, three-story housing complex, but was later changed to a Western-style house. Miharu was supposed to be a junior high school student, and Nekonneru originally possessed a group of cats instead of a jigsaw puzzle. In the storyboard, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod was called the "White Moon Excalibur" and looked extremely different.

Episode 93: Uranus was supposed to use an attack called "Uranus Garter Bridge."

Episode 95: The Daimon (Die-Heart) was supposed to yell "Love Me!", not "Lovely!"

Episode 96: "Deep Submerge" was originally called "Kairyū-Ha" (Ocean Current Wave), then "Deep Swim Illusion."

Episode 97: In the episode, Mamoru finds Ami sitting by herself on some steps and they start talking. Originally, Ami, who was completely preoccupied with her worries, was supposed to bump into him, prompting Mamoru to joke, "I often bump into Usagi, but this is the first time I've bumped into you." In the scenario, Ami and Michiru compete in a 500 meter freestyle, not a 100 meter freestyle. Originally, Haruka was supposed to take Ami back to the sports center for the rematch on her bike, but in the episode, Ami decides to walk there instead.

Episode 98: Originally, it was the scent of a lotion Usagi recognized on Uranus, not cologne.

Episode 99: Flashbacks to the first time Yuichirou met Rei, Rei chasing him with a broom, and other scenes from episodes 38 and 63 were supposed to appear, but ultimately only three quick still images were shown. Also, Toden's Dark Star was originally going to be on her left hip, not her left armpit.

Episode 100: Haikyun's dying, "Nippon, Cha-cha-cha!" was an ad lib. In the episode, Venus's intro speech begins, "For love and beauty, the pretty soldier in a sailor suit! Sailor Venus!" Originally, it was meant to begin, "The incarnation of the goddess of love! Sailor Venus!"

Episode 102: We were supposed to see Artemis give the disguise pen to Venus, but that scene was cut short. Mercury was also supposed to use her mini computer to find the weak point in Kaolinite's shield.

I always thought it was just some sort of angelic symbolism. Like it was a holy transformation which is why she briefly sprouted angel wings never would have guessed it was a holdover from a swan motif and they were suppose to be swan wings

It is interesting that they all have completely different attack names in the first season from their manga counterparts (well Crescent Beam comes from the Sailor V manga but she used Rolling Heart Vibration as Sailor Venus in the Dark Kingdom arc) makes you wonder how different the anime would have been if it started even a year after the manga debuted and not less than 3 months.

Episode 103: Eudial's gun was originially supposed to shoot out a net that captured the target. [The gun is called the "Black Star Gun" and its ray is called the "Black Beam."] Also, the goldfish scooping booth was originally a shooting gallery. We were supposed to see Chibiusa throughout the festival, disguised in a yukata and rabbit mask, causing trouble for Usagi. We'd see Luna-P in a booth selling masks. Later, Luna-P would turn into a firecracker to distract the daimon, then Chibiusa would appear, removing her mask and yukata to reveal Sailor Chibi Moon.

Episode 104: The boy who shows Chibiusa his "elephant" was originally just a boy wearing an elephant hat. We were supposed to see Eudial studying flower arrangement, the tea ceremony, aikido, practicing the shamisen, and reading the Hyakunin Isshu in order to study humans (a.k.a. the enemy). The last scene was supposed to take place at Hikawa Shrine, with Sailor Tamasaburo giving Rei and the girls a tea ceremony lesson there.

Episode 105: We were supposed to see Mako in her swimsuit. The episode was to end with Mako chowing down at the resort, not on the train..

Episode 106: In the flashback scenes, we were supposed to see Haruka fencing, hang gliding, and playing basketball in addition to running track. Uranus and Neptune's transformation items were simply called "sticks" in the scenario.

Episode 107: The name of Michiru's new painting is "Mermaid Princess in the Deep Sea." Choukokkaa was supposed to make four clay dolls: Work No. 001 "God of Idol Domination," Work No. 002 "Beyond the Slaughter," Work No. 003 "Ambition of Silence," and Work No. 004, "Fate of Gravity."

Episode 109: The fight with Doorknobder was supposed to take place in a sports facility gymnasium, not an underground parking lot. Uranus and Neptune were originally the ones who defeated Doorknobder. According to the scenario, after using their special attacks, a Sailor Soldier's power is cut in half.

Episode 110: In the scenario, the Marine Cathedral is called the "Church of the Sea." Rather than wall carvings, Uranus and Neptune were attacked by angel statues. The talismans were originally called "The Mirror of the Deep Sea" and "The Sword of the Sky."

Episode 111: When Chibi Moon gets the feather barrettes added to her hair, Rei and the other girls were supposed to say they looked cute.

Episode 112: Yosaku's co-star was called Yumi in the script.

Episode 113: U-Henshuu was originally named "U-Tanto Tanto." Ukon Katakuri's manga series (called "Drop Drop" in the episode) was originally titled "Cindy Cindy," obviously a reference to the series "Candy Candy." Hotaru's room was initially filled with the latest audio equipment, but this was changed to lamps during storyboarding. (This probably explains the steroes in the Messiah Room.)

Episode 116: Mimete was supposed to disguise herself by wearing a mask.

Episode 117: The Death Busters originally played Chinese jump rope, not Twister.

Episode 118: Professor Tomoe originally went out to buy lab supplies like beakers and test tubes. In the episode, Luna and Artemis look on as Tomoe (mentally) delivers a soliloquy; originally, Tomoe was supposed to overhear a conversation Luna and Artemis were having. Also, the games the girls play with the daimon were all supposed to be gambling games like slot machines, etc; in the final version, roulette is the only gambling game played.

Episode 120: "Witches Electric Warp" was originally called "Special Charm Buster."

Episode 121: At the start of the episode, when Tomoe is on the phone with Tellu, Tellu was supposed to be calculating the cost of the Tellun plants. After this, Kaolinite was supposed to bring the professor tea and sweets (not coffee), and she originally was supposed to say (regarding her revival), "I wanted to stay with [the professor] for as long as possible." There was supposed to be a scene in which Tellu sold her plants out of a car. Another cut scene involved Tomoe discovering Hotaru's disappearance and becoming upset. Finally, similar to what happened in Crystal, Tellu was supposed to merge with her Tellun flowers and transform into a monster, then attack with "Mandragora Buster."

Episode 122: Originally the anime had planned for each of the Inners to fight their respective Witches 5 counterpart, but only Mimete vs Venus and Viluy vs Mercury ended up happening. When Chibiusa stands before Hotaru's empty house, in addition to the flashback of Kaolinite's abduction of Hotaru, we were also supposed to see flashes of the Messiah of Silence and of a smiling Hotaru.

Episode 123: Chibiusa's nightmare of Hotaru being grabbed by countless hands was originally a vision of Hotaru suffering a seizure seen through a window of the Tomoe family home. When Kaolinite fights Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Pluto, she was originally supposed to launch a test tube attack at them.

Episode 124: Mistress 9 was supposed to monitor the Sailor Soldiers' movements with a "water mirror." According to the scenario, Pluto's final words were, "If you can meet the real Messiah, please give her my regards..." After the helicopter explosion, when Hotaru's voice comes out of Mistress 9 ("Don't use [Chibiusa's] pure heart for bad things"), there was supposed to be a visual of Hotaru in total darkness, naked and holding her knees. Originally, the red gel-like Daimon was supposed to be "ghost-like." Germatoid was not in the scenario; he was added during storyboarding. Apparently, Professor Tomoe was going to split open, revealing he was a possessed puppet.

Episode 125: Originally, Uranus and Neptune were supposed to break free. While Neptune restrained Moon, Uranus attacked Mistress 9, but Moon shook Neptune off her and protected Tomoe and Mistress 9 from Uranus. Mistress 9 then took the Holy Grail from Sailor Moon. (During storyboarding, this was changed to Moon *giving* her the grail.) The scene where Hotaru regains control and dissolves Mistress 9's body was originally supposed to show Hotaru floating in darkness until reaching Chibiusa's pure heart crystal, which shone like a beacon, and carefully holding it in her hands. There was supposed to be a scene where Mamoru grows dizzy due to Pharaoh 90's invasion of the earth. Sailor Saturn was supposed to become "a shining meteor" and penetrate Pharaoh 90/the Tau System in a single blow like a comet. (Not sure if that's literal or just figurative.) After Super Sailor Moon plunges into the dying Tau System to bring back Sailor Saturn, Saturn was to say, "My body is one now with Pharaoh 90's...and my soul is about to disappear... I'm Sailor Saturn... the Soldier of Destruction... I'm glad. Given the situation, it's for the best. Therefore..." (This scene would be repeated at the start of the next episode.)

Episode 126: The doctor who explains Professor Tomoe's condition to Haruka was supposed to be looking at head x-rays, not reading medical records.

Episode 127: The letter Chibiusa receives from NQS was originally addressed to "Chibiusa-chan," not "Small Lady." Instead of an original computer game, Ami's original farewell present for Chibiusa was a CD dictionary. Rei originally mistook Usagi's gift for a raccoon dog, not a dog. In the episode, Mamoru is the one who tells the girls not to go after Usagi and Chibiusa; originally, Rei was the one who told them to let them alone.

S Movie: Naoko originally came up with this story to be used as the plot of the R movie, but due to scheduling conflicts, she had to temporarily shelve the idea.

Later, Luna-P would turn into a firecracker to distract the daimon, then Chibiusa would appear, removing her mask and yukata to reveal Sailor Chibi Moon.
They should have kept that
Episode 109: The fight with Doorknobder was supposed to take place in a sports facility gymnasium, not an underground parking lot. Uranus and Neptune were originally the ones who defeated Doorknobder. According to the scenario, after using their special attacks, a Sailor Soldier's power is cut in half.
and that. It never made sense to always have Sailor Moon finishing the daimon (sans episode 105 and 90) when the Outers are suppose to be more powerful

Heck I don’t think Jupiter and Tellu even interacted.

Apparently, Professor Tomoe was going to split open, revealing he was a possessed puppet.
while that sounds cool visually its probably for the best they didn’t kill him off because his redemption and wanting to save Hotaru was really sweet

Mistress 9 then took the Holy Grail from Sailor Moon. (During storyboarding, this was changed to Moon *giving* her the grail.)
Changing to her giving her the grail was for the better

Episode 127: The letter Chibiusa receives from NQS was originally addressed to "Chibiusa-chan," not "Small Lady."
Since her family seemed to never call her Chibi Usa (in episode 61 Usagi comes up with it and Chibi Usa says no my name is Usagi until Mamoru says Chibi Usa is a cute name) it made sense to change it to NQS addressing her as Small Lady

- According to Ikuko Itoh's notes, the design concept for the Lemures was "a suspicious, cute, freaky atmosphere" meant to be creepier than the Daimones.

Episode 128: Hawk's Eye was initially called Eagle Eye. During the solar eclipse, Luna, Artemis, Mamoru, and Rei were all supposed to have an ominous premonition about the darkness. (Luna's feeling of foreboding made it into the picture book adaptation.) In the episode, the Kaleido Moonscope just appears after Pegasus gives Moon and Chibi Moon their Super forms; originally, he was supposed to power up the Spiral Heart Moon Rod and Pink Moon Rod.

Episode 129: Originally, Chibiusa was the only one who went to the park at the beginning, with Minako and Artemis later joining her and learning about Reika's return to Japan. There was supposed to be a scene where Motoki picked up Unazuki from Fruit Parlor Crown and drove her home on a motorcycle. Also, during the fight with the Lemures, Sailor Moon was supposed to be tied to a carousel and rotated at high speed.

SuperS TV Special: The framing scenes of the first segment were originally to take place in Usagi's bedroom. (The working title was "Sailor Moon SS Tears Special Part A: New Chapter Complete Edition.)

Episode 132: In the scenario, Usagi was overly enthusiastic over winning a hippo plushy at the arcade. Hawk's Eye and Fish Eye were both supposed to be dressed in normal clothes when they show up to taunt Tiger's Eye. Rather than being suffocated, Sailor Moon was supposed to be attacked by the Lemures's "flame breath." According to the scenario, the tie Saori gives Kobayashi at the end was one that Mamoru picked out, and it has a hippo pattern on it.

Episode 134: In the show, Tenko binds Jupiter, Moon, and Chibi Moon together with chains, but originally she was to trap Luna and Diana in a padlocked drum. When Tuxedo Mask arrived to save the day, his line would then be, "Canned goods don't suit beautiful women. Only a slow writer should be canned." The epilog was supposed to be of Mako gifting Tomoko a new fountain pen and manuscript paper.

Episode 135: Tiger's Eye was to disguise himself as a crystal ball-gazer, rather than a palm reader. He was also to wear a fake beard. There was supposed to be a scene where Zirconia severely reprimands him for failing once again.

Episode 136: Phobos and Deimos were supposed to appear. At the start of the episode, when Usagi is jealous of Mamoru and Ami, she was originally supposed to scrawl "Mamoru's an Idiot" in her workbook.

Episode 137: In the show, Kitakata's first name is "Kunihiko" according to the dust jacket of his book, but the scenario gave his name as "Giichi." He was originally a beautiful boy (bishonen), not a young man. Much of the episode takes place at a lake in the deepest part of the forest, but originally it was set on the banks of a spring. There was supposed to be a scene of Usagi and Chibiusa looking for Ami and the others in the forest. After Fish Eye attacks Kitakata, Sailor Mars and the others were supposed to arrive to help Kitakata; they would then be entangled in Tsunawatarou's rope attack.

Episode 138: In the show, Natsumi faints after seeing Hawk's Eye, but originally Hawk's Eye used magic to make a tool rack fall on her. Also, when Zircon watches Natsumi earlier in the episode, he was supposed to be hanging upside down from the ceiling like a bat.

Episode 139: The last scene was supposed to have Usagi, Chibiusa, Miharu, and Miharu's mother all falling into a pit and crying for help.

Episode 140: The scene where Usui's partner quits was a late addition to the story, which is perhaps why they didn't change the ending and resolve that plot line by having him come back. Usagi was supposed to have snuck into the dress shop through a window when she and Chibiusa discover Fish Eye is attacking Usui. Originally, Gomumario was supposed to stop Moon and Chibi Moon with his glue-like saliva and then attack them with a slingshot.

Thanks for this @MementoNepenthe!

It's not fully shocking that there were working names and designs for some of the items and attacks (probably from the anime team itself) since we're aware of the existence of things like Sailor Moon Le Cygne. But what's more shocking is how jarring some of these names actually are...worse than even Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss.

The White Moon Excalibur sounds really cool though. I wonder what it looked like and what attack it would have been used for.

Episode 143: Robert was originally a new transfer student. Chibiusa's conversation with Pegasus was supposed to take place at bedtime as usual, not when she got home from school. The scene at Fruit Parlor Crown was originally set in Rei's room at the shrine.

Episode 145: The episode was supposed to open with Kiriko practicing under Yamagishi's instruction. Later, Yamagishi was supposed to sigh while watching Usagi's terrible dancing, but then think to himself, "But is there anyone else who can play that role?", setting up the final punchline of the episode. There was also supposed to be a gag moment where Rei, forgetting she can't dance, offers to play Odette for Yamagishi in "Swan Lake."

Episode 146: The festival scenes were supposed to be scored with pop music, but in the end they just used the usual BGM.

Episode 147: In the storyboard, Mako was wearing her school uniform in the target photo. Fish Eye was supposed to trap Ami, Rei, and Minako with a gummy substance rather than a net. Unazuki originally invited the girls to a "disco tournament" at the end, not a high school dance party.

Episode 148: After finding that Pegasus isn't in Mamoru's Dream Mirror, Fish Eye was supposed to smile sadly and throw his knife to the ground before kissing Mamoru.

Episode 149: The fight scene was supposed to take place in a junkyard.

Episode 150: The poster Motoki puts up was supposed to say, "The Great Circus Troupe from the Unexplored Regions of the Amazon! The Mysterious Dead Moon Circus." According to Ikuko Itoh's notes, the circus troupe members are supposed to be "between Art Deco and Art Nouveau."

Episode 151: "NT" was originally "Electone." Ami was supposed to play NT's song on her electronic keyboard (though it's not clear if that was instead of writing lyrics for it, or in addition to writing lyrics for it). The scenario specified that Ami's father was in the Alps.

Episode 153: The opening scenes with the Amazon Quartet were supposed to go after the Usagi and Chibiusa sequence. Chibiusa's cavities were to be discovered when she drinks the juice Momoko gives her at school, as in the manga. Umino was supposed to appear in this episode, being the first to notice the sudden appearance of the PallaPalla House. PallaPalla was supposed to be disguised as the dental assistant. Instead of roses, Tuxedo Mask was supposed to throw cakes. The old / real dentist from Juban Dental was modeled after then-prime minister Tomiichi Murayama.

Episode 154: The "Honjo Nursery" was originally supposed to be "Juban Nursery" from episode 53. (Both episodes have the same director.)

Episode 155: In the first scene where JunJun is coaching Kyuusuke in the schoolyard, Ami and Rei were supposed to pass by and watch. They were then to pass by again the second time, with Ami delving into a technical speech on the proper box jumping technique. Originally, JunJun was just supposed to disguise herself as a bear to scare/encourage Kyuusuke.

Episode 156: The woman Kamoi is painting at the start is apparently named Reiko. Originally, Kamoi's art display also included landscapes and still lifes. The scene where Kamoi is eating Usagi's cooking and talking to her and Chibiusa was supposed to be accompanied by flashbacks. CereCere's disguise was supposed to consist of a luxury brand suit, a luxury bag, a wristwatch, shoes, and earrings, and she was supposed to be accompanied by servants. When Kamoi declines to paint her portrait, CereCere was originally to immediately attack him.

Episode 158: After PallaPalla casts her spell on Moon and Chibi Moon, she was supposed to disappear. Moon and Chibi Moon would then de-transform and discover that their ages had been switched when they notice their regular clothes no longer fit them properly. In addition to the "sweet and delicious candy doll, PeroPero," the Sailors were also supposed to fight the "chewing gum doll, Blueberry," the "popcorn doll, Butter Flavor," and the "yellow cherry doll, Uffun."

Episode 159: This episode's Lemures, the Dream-Eating Carp PakuPaku Dude, was originally the Dream-Eating Flying Squirrel MonMon Dude. In the scene where Ami and Minako are talking to Chibiusa, there was supposed to be a shot of Luna, Artemis, and Diana eavesdropping on them. Originally, JunJun was to target a randomly selected kid from a group watching a clown at the park. When Chibiusa tried to help him, Usagi and the others mistook him for the guy Chibiusa had a crush on.

Episode 161: Originally, during the marathon/race scene at the beginning, Kyuusuke was also among the runners. On the verge of winning, he suddenly fell and injured his leg. Chibiusa let him lean against her shoulder, and together they crossed the finish line in a heartwarming moment. Also, the Quartet were supposed to attack an orphanage that had been covered by the spider silk.

Episode 163: The Amazon girls are confined to individual mirrors as a punishment in the show, bur initially they were supposed to be confined in the same mirror. When JunJun asks Chibi Moon why she'd go so far for Pegasus's sake (i.e. run through fire to save him), Chibi Moon was supposed to reply forcefully with, "Don't you know?! Don't you know why?!"

Episode 164: According to the scenario, the opening flashback scene of the Quartet is set on "a certain planet in the Amazon universe." Originally, it was PallaPalla who found the mirror buried in the ground. (In the show, VesVes finds it in a spring.) When Nehellenia gets the Golden Crystal, there was supposed to be a brief shot of Elysium.

Episode 166: Usagi (as Princess Serenity) was supposed to become Eternal Sailor Moon thanks to Pegasus and the Golden Crystal. We were also supposed to see the forest of Elysium fully revived, and in it, the Amazon Trio. During the ending scene, Chibiusa was supposed to stay stubborn until Pegasus finally flew away. Then she was to run after him, shouting his name. VesVes, watching this happen and feeling sympathy, then created a magical bridge to the sky for Chibiusa to run up, giving her the chance to tell Pegasus her true feelings.

There seems to be one cut scene from episode 159. There's a cel of an inbetween frame, and the genga (original animator's drawings) and corrections of another shot. The fact that there's a cel probably means the scene was finished before getting cut.

The cel, showing Usagi almost walking in on Chibiusa talking with Helios:
The genga, showing Usagi about to head back down the stairs, before possibly hearing something and looking back up. (This is worth looking at for Ikuko Itoh's gorgeous corrections alone.)

Before we move on to Sailor Stars, I wanted to share my thoughts on all the revelations thus far.

Episode 24: Originally the episode was to open with a scene of Grape and Nephrite having a violent fight, with Housenka looking at Nephrite with intense hatred for falling in love with a human girl. We were later to see the Plant Sisters kidnap Naru with Housenka's using a small, firecracker-like bomb and Suzuran a bell that produced ultrasonic waves.
Definitely glad they changed this (but why didn't they keep the original episode title???).

Episode 25: "Moon Healing Escalation" was originally called "Moon Power Healing," which was what the Tanoshii Youchien comic and TV Picture Book adaptations used.
I'm glad this was changed since "Moon Power Healing" is blah, but I wonder if all the other little differences in the TV picture books are things from the original scenarios...

Episode 45: The DD Girls' hallucinatory attack was originally to entice each of the girls into fantasy worlds, with a memory of Usagi being inserted right as they were on the verge of entering them. Later, Sailor Moon would be confronted by the last DD Girl while holding Rei's corpse, and defeat her with "Moon Tiara Action."
I really wish they'd stuck with this version. It would have been so much better. Yes, Mars's moment in the final version is iconic and all, but otherwise this was a much stronger concept.

Episode 46: After regaining his memory, the fatally wounded Endymion was to say, "I'm no longer Endymion. I'm Mamoru Chiba, who lives in this era! I'm an ordinary college student whose heart was moved by a girl named Usagi Tsukino."
They should have kept this line.

Episode 51: Kuri and Yumi were supposed to attend the cherry blossom viewing with the others, but they wound up being cut from the episode. The Cutie Moon Rod was originally called the "Queen Stick," and Sailor Moon's new attack was to be "Moon Swan Flapping Takeoff," which shot out a swan-shaped burst of light that purified the enemy.
Wish Kuri and Yumi had appeared. I kind of like "Queen Stick" as an alternate name for the (Cutie) Moon Rod. I like the *idea* of "Moon Swan Flapping Takeoff," and I feel like it may have later inspired Sailor Moon, le Cygne, but god is that a terrible attack name that would have spawned a thousand Rule 34 "Moon Swan Fapping Takeoff" fan art parodies. I'm going to headcanon rename that attack to "Moon Shining Swan Dive."

Episode 53: In the scenario for this episode, "Moon Princess Halation" was called "Queen Stick Love You Shower."
That sounds like a bad parody of a Sailor V attack phrase.

Episode 54: This episode was directed by Harume Kosaka, who was one of the storyboarders for "Burning Mandala" later on. Apparently her original concept for that attack was for the eight symbols of the mandala to come together and form a Yamata no Orochi (a legendary eight-headed, eight-tailed dragon/snake) out of fire.
That would have made an AMAZING sequence for "Mars Snake Fire." Maybe in the next reboot...

Episode 78: Venus's catchphrase was originally, "Awaken to love and start mending your ways!"
And they didn't stick with this because...?

Episode 84: Originally Esmeraud was to be shown holding a rose before turning to dust and then ascending to heaven. Also, the episode was to end with Black Lady appearing on screen; instead, we only hear her laughter.
Justice for Esmeraud!

Episode 88: When Chibiusa returns to the future, Sailor Pluto was supposed to be included in the scene. The director cut her from the episode, saying Pluto was supposed to be protecting the Door of Space-Time.
Justice for Pluto! She should have been in the finale!

R Movie: Xenian's character design was based off of Kyurene's human disguise in episode 6. In addition to Glycina, Dahlian, and Campanula, the scenario also called for a Salvia and a Piashinzu (ピアシンズ).
Can someone figure out what the second unused monster's name is supposed to be? I have no idea what plant that's referencing.

Episode 90: There was supposed to be a scene of Grandpa Hino performing a fire ritual
Between this and Umino's being cut from episode 153, not to mention Kuri and Yumi's being dropped from episode 51 and Phobos and Deimos from 136, I wonder how many other times supporting characters were *supposed* to show up in these later episodes.

Episode 91: In the storyboard, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod was called the "White Moon Excalibur" and looked extremely different.
"White Moon Excalibur" sounds cool and would thematically fit with the Holy Grail, which is also from Arthurian legend. I wonder what it looked like. Was it a sword? Or was it still a scepter? I love the Spiral Heart Moon Rod, so I'm glad we got that, but maybe she could have gotten the WME upon becoming Super Sailor Moon? They need to release the art of it. Maybe make it a weapon in a video game (if we ever get another video game).

Episode 93: Uranus was supposed to use an attack called "Uranus Garter Bridge."
:wtf:

Episode 96: "Deep Submerge" was originally called "Kairyū-Ha" (Ocean Current Wave), then "Deep Swim Illusion."
The least tragic of all the potential attack names so far, but it just drives home how redundant Neptune and Mercury are.

Episode 103: We were supposed to see Chibiusa throughout the festival, disguised in a yukata and rabbit mask, causing trouble for Usagi. We'd see Luna-P in a booth selling masks. Later, Luna-P would turn into a firecracker to distract the daimon, then Chibiusa would appear, removing her mask and yukata to reveal Sailor Chibi Moon.
Wish they'd kept this idea.

Episode 109: The fight with Doorknobder was supposed to take place in a sports facility gymnasium, not an underground parking lot. Uranus and Neptune were originally the ones who defeated Doorknobder.
This also sounds better than the version they went with.

They should have stuck with "Cindy Cindy." (Is "Drop Drop" a parody of something?) I don't know why they thought Hotaru would be into audio equipment

It's a shame they didn't stick to this version, and that we never got a Eudial vs. Mars episode or a Tellu vs. Jupiter episode like they'd originally intended. Like, Eudial (and Kaolinite and Mimete) had a million episodes but you couldn't make that happen? Sure, Jan.

I really wish they'd stuck closer to their original vision for these episodes, especially the ending of 125. (Sans the Saturn becoming a meteor thing if that was literal, because...that would have been weird.)

Episode 128: During the solar eclipse, Luna, Artemis, Mamoru, and Rei were all supposed to have an ominous premonition about the darkness.
Adding that to the list of things they should have kept.

Episode 134: The epilog was supposed to be of Mako gifting Tomoko a new fountain pen and manuscript paper.
That would have been cute.

Episode 137: In the show, Kitakata . . . was originally a beautiful boy (bishonen), not a young man. . . . After Fish Eye attacks Kitakata, Sailor Mars and the others were supposed to arrive to help Kitakata; they would then be entangled in Tsunawatarou's rope attack.
Glad they aged Kitakata up, but otherwise I wish they'd stuck to the initial concept. The Inners being left wandering around the forest at the end was funny, but I wish they'd gotten to meet Kitakata :(

Episode 148: After finding that Pegasus isn't in Mamoru's Dream Mirror, Fish Eye was supposed to smile sadly and throw his knife to the ground before kissing Mamoru.

Episode 153: PallaPalla was supposed to be disguised as the dental assistant. Instead of roses, Tuxedo Mask was supposed to throw cakes.

Episode 154: The "Honjo Nursery" was originally supposed to be "Juban Nursery" from episode 53.
Added to the list of things they should have kept.

Episode 158: In addition to the "sweet and delicious candy doll, PeroPero," the Sailors were also supposed to fight the "chewing gum doll, Blueberry," the "popcorn doll, Butter Flavor," and the "yellow cherry doll, Uffun."
Justice for Blueberry, Butter Flavor, and Uffun.

Episode 164: According to the scenario, the opening flashback scene of the Quartet is set on "a certain planet in the Amazon universe."
The existence of an "Amazon universe" just raises so many questions, but I guess if they ever did a season 6 dealing with parallel/alternate realities, we have our setting @Seira Hazuki

We could have had Eternal Sailor Moon AND a return of the Amazon Trio in the finale, and instead all they gave us was ten minutes of Usagi and Chibiusa falling? *picks up a torch and pitchfork*

"White Moon Excalibur" sounds cool and would thematically fit with the Holy Grail, which is also from Arthurian legend. I wonder what it looked like. What is a sword? Or was it still a scepter? I love the Spiral Heart Moon Rod, so I'm glad we got that, but maybe she could have gotten the WME upon becoming Super Sailor Moon? They need to release the art of it. Maybe make it a weapon in a video game (if we ever get another video game).
They 1000000% should have given Super Sailor Moon the White Moon Excalibur to compliment the Holy Grail and given her a new attack instead of just redrawing Moon Spiral Heart Attack.

I really wish they'd stuck closer to their original vision for these episodes, especially the ending of 125. (Sans the Saturn becoming a meteor thing if that was literal, because...that would have been weird.)
I kind of imagine it being more of a visual metaphor which would have been cool (it almost sounds like we would have seen a bit more of the fight with Pharaoh 90). It also explains the episode's title "The Shining Shooting Star: Saturn and the Messiah."

Episode 166 always felt so empty compared to the other "finales" of the seasons, and now we know why. SuperS wasn't great in general, but there was no reason why they couldn't let it have a proper conclusion even if they were planning to bring back Nehelennia and save Eternal Sailor Moon for Sailor Stars.

With the amount of scrapped ideas between the manga and original anime, when the series gets rebooted a 3rd time, Naoko and Toei have no excuse not to try and incoperate some of them.

SuperS Movie: Pluto was supposed to use "Chronos Typhoon." The working title was "The Pied Piper of Torte Castle."

Episode 167: "Sailor Moon Sailor Stars" was originally called "New Sailor Moon."

Episode 168: Usagi and Mamoru's date scene at the beginning was supposed to revolve around Usagi wanting to get ice cream.

Episode 169: Asanuma originally went to Mamoru's apartment because Mamoru was supposed to tutor him in math. In the aired version, Usagi already had a key to Mamoru's apartment, but originally she was supposed to find the key hidden in a flowerpot beside the door. Eternal Sailor Moon was supposed to shout the name of her new attack, but what that name was isn't given.

Episode 170: Mercury and Uranus were supposed to find themselves in ancient Incan ruins, but this was changed to Greek-style ruins during storyboarding. It seems the real Nehellenia was initially going to attack them.

Episode 171: Usagi was meant to awaken from her hallucination shouting, "There are no roses here!" In response, Nehellenia was to say, "If you want roses that much, I'll give them to you." Thus, the thorns that block the stairs to her palace were meant to be rose thorns.

Episode 172: It was at this point they decided to call the new season "Sailor Stars." Originally, they were going to re-show the scene of Nehellenia stealing her subjects' dream mirrors and turning them into Lemures, but during storyboarding, they came up with the idea of Nehellenia's lonely girlhood. Like in the TV picture book version, the mirror fragment in Mamoru's eye was supposed to be washed out by his tears. When the Sailors are speaking and sending energy to Usagi, Chibi Moon was originally going to say, "Pegasus said that Dead Moon was created by the darkness in everyone's hearts..." Then, after being healed by Eternal Sailor Moon, Nehellenia, now with the appearance of a pure queen, was to turn to Endymion and say, "I was dreaming. A long, long dream..." (The idea of Nehellenia turning back into a little girl happened during storyboarding.) We were supposed to see Luna, Diana, and Artemis at the end, but that was reduced to simply a voiceover.
