I actually like Beryl alot. Also I think it is silly that people think that her sympathetic backstory as being a human woman who fell in love with Endymion didn't apply to her in that canon. She very much did so and it was shown she desired for Endymion to be her husband as well as her anger towards the Moon Kingdom taking her away from him. Likewise there is no evidence that the Shitennou were also not Endymion's guardians. It is implied they were and outright stated in some 90s anime supplementary materials and more authoritative ones not the weird audio dramas and in the 90s anime the Dark Kingdom were people from the Earth who rebelled against the Golden Kingdom and the Silver Millennium. They were not foreigners from neither or invaders from another dimension like in the DiC dub of the series and in fact it was Queen Metalia's emerging from the Sun which allowed for the rise of the Dark Kingdom on Earth with Beryl as the Queen and in many ways the sort of Priestess of Queen Metalia.

Whether Beryl was evil originally would depend on your opinion. I don't believe that Beryl was necessarily evil originally but I do believe that she loved Endymion and she resented Princess Serenity for how she thought that the Princess took Endymion for her. I imagine that Metalia probably twisted the Witch's Desire for Endymion and her hatred for the Princess into the evil Queen that she became.

The way she offers Endymion to be her husband in the 90’s anime didn’t strike me as a proposal made out of love, more like a political proposition and just a way to consolidate more power over the Earth since he was the Prince, she got angry about it sure, but not really broken up like we see in the manga, more like her pride just got wounded, but she had no qualms about killing him off along with the Princess when he refused.

Really, the Shittenou being Endymion’s guardians was stated in supplementary anime material and audio dramas? Can you give me the link to some of these, cause this is the first I’ve heard of it. Would explain that weird Nephrite scene where he and Mamoru sense each other for a split second that never went anywhere.

That's according to the official (read "fake" here) version in the propaganda of Serenity's regime. Beryl was in fact a revolutionary leader who attempted to liberate the people on the Earth from the long-time tyranny of the Moon matriarchy, although she failed in the end (hence only that official version is being left, as the truth about it was buried & those who knew about it were killed, & history is always written by the winner).

From what I always understood there was supposed to be no mingling or interference between the Earth and Moon, Moon watches over Earth's evolution progression that's as far as it's allowed to go, as for Beryl I don't think she as her own non twisted self is supposed to be as blameless as some make her out to be, her extreme jealousy between Serenity and Endy-cape boy is one factor to consider [to the point of not backing off even after it was obvious that he is not interested in Beryl meaning that his feelings don't matter to her she'll take him one way or the other] in my opinion shes infatuated with Chiba and doesn't truly love him but the idea of him

a mind like that can be easily controlled by feelings Metalia took advantage made Beryl take her anger out on the moon

No it is a proposal made out of love. Even when she sees Tuxedo Mask's face when his mask is knocked off by Zoisite she immediately recognizes him and wishes to do anything to bring him to her even killing Zoisite for almost killing him. She definitely loved him and that was the reason for her turning to evil. Even that story of the Lake Monster was meant to be a parallel to Beryl becoming a monster due to Prince Endymion not requiting her love and his love for a Princess from the Heavens.

I am pretty sure it is and I believe it is in even certain 90s anime based materials that while not canon are based in it like the PC engine game. In fact some of the supplimentary materials of the 90s anime also tell Chibiusa's true age of 900.

Also yeah that was another scene meant to foreshadow Nephrite's past as Endymion's Shitennou when they briefly sense one another.

No, she turned evil for power in both versions, and Endymion to her was mostly a trophy.

Another Story actually whitewashed her a little bit.

In the manga he is clearly not a trophy either. The 90s show, sure, but in the manga he is her main motivation.

In the manga she KILLED him with no remorse, and willingly use him as a tool. The anime at least she wanted to keep some of his personality.

She killed him out of jealousy, because he was still being Serenity's shield. In the anime it came out of the blue and she never wanted anything but playing with everyone. The manga Beryl was in love in a twist jealous way and it was shown. The anime Beryl was simply being evil and trying to play with all of them. In the past she was like a child there, quite goofy, cartoony witch. There was not ahint shewas a human once. There was not a hint she was in love with Endymion, outside of political reasons. When he threw the rose at her, she was still talking about being a ruler of both worlds, and not about actual love. The manga Beryl was twisted, but she killed him out of sick love and jealousy. How exactly she was trying to keep some of his personality in the 90s anime. 90s anikme fanboys really try so hard to give it credit and depth. Let's be real 90s Beryl was just pathetically goofy, shallow and powerless. She was trying to brainwash him, but she was cartoonishly bad at it. It was not that she wanted him as anything but a doll, she simply was too weak and powerless to do it.

She killed him with cold blood and still wanted to have him as a trophy in present life without a bit or remorse, how is it love?

In the manga Beryl was all about her ambition as well other than her last moment showed she once stared at him. The anime did mention that Beryl once was a wizard as well through dialogue, they are pretty much the same, just that in the anime Beryl had not shown her human form.

She killed him out of jealosy, She turned the entire Earth against the Moon and yet she couldn't make him stop loving Serenity. Beryl is bitter, bitter people might be extremely clingy and also vengfull. They might ruin you out of spite and still if they have a chance to be with you they won't think twice. Unrequited love might haunt some people. The 90s anime showed us a power hungry Beryl, it was never established she had any sort of unrequited love that drove her crazy. She simply wanted to have a cake and eat it too. Sure, the manga glossed over it, but still established it. Beryl in the 90s was the most shallow villain in the whole 90s show. The Another Story Beryl is a different story, but this is still a different medium. La Reconquista musical was adapting the manga, they created quite a nuanced Beryl, but it is also a different medium. The Another Story doesn't make 90s Beryl any better, because this is a different medium with its own established story.

There is no such thing kill your loved one without remorse and still call it love. You probably can do it to the rival or other ppl, but never once did she show any true care towards Endymion. Tell me where did the manga say anything about love? NO, other than her flash back there is nothing soft.

No, she turned the Earth against the Moon for her ambition. It was made very clear in her flashback. She wanted to rule the world, and at the same time have the prince as her trophy.

In her twisted mind she can. I know such people, of course it is obsession and not love ooking it from the outside, but in their own head it is love. It still gives her some complexity. He was still the reason for her power hunt not just a price she might eventually get. Yes, the manga take is a bit clumsy, but it is clear enough once you see her final flashback. In a way I can compare manga Beryl to Salome and her obsession with Joan.

It's not love, but desire to have someone as a trophy.

No, the flashback showed clear that she had long waited for Metallia's arrival and intended to use her to become ruler of the world.

Other than her final flashback, nothing ever indicated she has any true feeling of love, even in the flashback she was grabbing her hand, trying to have him.

Anime Beryl at least

Executed Zoisite for hurting Mamoru.
Try to not fully brainwash Mamoru at first, keep his personality as much as possible.
Put him at the commander role instead of a tool.

They are not much different, both are ambitious cold blood villains who wanted to have the pretty boy as their trophy. It's not a bad thing, a big bad should act like that.

The manga Beryl would most likely kill someone if they try to kill Mamoru in front of her. She simply brainwashed him like the rest of the generals and the she might have made him her commander if only the rest of the knights weren't already killed. And finally you cannot outright tell anime Beryl let him have some humanity simply because she wanted him to be anything but a toy. It simply took some time and eventually she succeded. You can always find stuff if you look hard enough or create headcanon, but as long as the story itself doesn't make it clear enough, you cannot state it as a fact. It is just your take on the character.

But she killed Mamoru and again tried to make him a puppet. Again you say she loves him, you need to give out proof. Other than the flashback she showed no emotion, even that scene wasn't really telling much. The difference is that her human form was shown and the scene was her last moment so it sounds a bit touching, but it doesn't truly prove that she loves him, more of "she wanted to have him".

In the manga, the generals kept their personality better than Mamoru. She didn't want Mamoru to love her, she wanted to have him. Anime Beryl wanted to have Mamoru as the man she knew at first, then when he was cleansed she could only turn him into a puppet. It doesn't make much of a difference through.

I don't think it's a bad thing again, a big bad doing all this for his/her love would sound silly and wangst.

In her head she loved him. The story shows that she is obsessed with him more than anything. The 90s Beryl was obsessed over ruling the world and he was nothing but a way to make Serenoty suffer even more.
