Difference of character popularity upon male/female fans?

Crystal Rei is the only boring version of Rei imo, Actual Manga Rei is fine, just a different flavor. Read Casablanca Memories, she's actually quite a deep character. The short stories & Dream Arc also do alot for her.

Manga Inner four got way too little personality and very little friendship was shown. Other than their own short story they lack of enough personality or bond compare to the anime.

PGSM did a fine job on expanding manga Rei though.

They had personality, it was just more scarce (because the manga was moving at a breakneck pace) and subtle rather than the 90's anime "loud in your face" you're supposed to pay more attention to their expressions & syntax to discern their personalities.

Friendship, yeah it wasn't as group oriented like the 90's anime and they didn't have a chance to play off each other's quirks but some specific dynamics like Reinako's friendship definitely shines better in the manga while they're barely a thing in the 90's anime (MakoAmi by contrast shines in the 90's and barely has any interaction in the manga)

Shouldn't Rei's unique dynamic with Minako in the manga ring as a good thing for you if you prioritize the friendship between the girls so highly? Who says they need to revolve around Usagi? That's not healthy and they shouldn't, and it's ironically completely reducing their dynamic to nothing but Slavish Guardians & their Princess that detractors of the manga so often like to cite as a flaw.

Yes but it's nowhere close compare to their friendship in the anime at all.

The anime has a much better build up and focus on the side characters and their relationship. The manga was nowhere close to compare with it, simple as that.

I'm weird. I'm a cisgendered female. I love Ami, Makoto, Chibi-Usa and Hotaru. I like Setsuna, I'm neutral about Usagi and Haruka. I have a slight aversion to Minako. I don't like Michiru (sorry, OP) and I can't stand Rei.

I guess I'm not like other girls.

I’m also a cisgendered girl and my faves are Minako, (Mostly Manga & PGSM) Rei, (all versions besides Crystal) and all the Outers.

Chibi-Usa I love in the Manga /Crystal but am more neutral to her 90’s anime persona.

Usagi, Ami and Mako I all like but they aren’t my faves like the aforementioned above Senshi, so I’m more neutral on them overall. Ami & Mako in particular just seem more bland to me and don’t have a lot going on like Venus and Mars (Though PGSM does do alot for them)

Mamoru I generally like in the Manga and PGSM but have mixed feelings on his 90’s anime version.

Speaking of, another thing that’s interesting to note is Mamoru seems to be equally unpopular with both the male and female audience, most likely cause he’s a subversion on the standard masculine ideal. (I have no idea how he hits with the target audience in Japan though, I can only speak from what I’ve seen on the Western side of things)

I don't like her because she's superfluous.

In the anime, she started out as relatively serious, boring experienced character, then took Usagi's role as the Ditz. Aside from being a more athletic and less crybaby version of Usagi, what is her purpose for being there other than being a second blonde? Instead of integrating her into the main cast, I think it would have been better to have a different character as Sailor Venus.

As for Mamoru, I largely hate him, in at least his civilian self. That is a gown man who harasses as middle schooler and this is treated as bickering that leads to love.

it depends from what version is the top, because i think some character become more popular because of the manga/crystal series
well is weird i liked chibi usa, and than usagi, makoto, minako, ami, than rei from outers i like it them but only haruka michiru and hotaru, i think we didnt have much about setsuna, i dosent like xD yuri or yaoi series, but i like the michiruxharuka relationship
in the manga well for me most of them they are more lovable, and they show us more about them, so i like all of them xD
