As we all know, being the multi-media franchise that it is Sailor Moon has more differences between it's versions than most Manga > Anime franchises do. Not only in it's story and plot elements or characterizaiton but even in it's romantic pair-ups. Alot of this has to do with the franchise taking a very "many different cooks in the kitchen" approach. Naoko is not the sole contributor or even creator of Sailor Moon: There's also corporations involved like Toei, Bandai, Kodansha, even her own editor Osabu could technically be credited as Sailor Moon's "true creator" since he was the one who pitched the idea from the very start. All these different involvements brings many different people working on their franchise, each with their own unique shipping biases.

Probably the one shipping element that's forever remained consistent between the versions are that the main couples always remain canon regardless, I'm talking about: Usagi/Mamoru, Haruka/Michiru, Chibi-Usa/Helios, (One-sided) Usagi/Seiya, Demande's obsession with NQS, Chibi-Usa's rather disturbing crush on Mamoru (taken more seriously in the Manga/Crystal) Luna/Artemis and Kenji/Ikuko (not really a "main" couple, but important in the creation of Usagi nontheless) All other shippings however seem to be fair game depending on the version you consume. So for this thread I thought I'd do a fun little experiment of listing out all the attempted ships between the versions and you can comment which continuity's ships you prefer overall. I will also include Original Character shippings not present in the manga at all such as Ail/En and Mamoru/Fiore, I'll even do the old Optimum dub's attempt at shipping just for the heck of it. Let's go!

Ships exclusive to the 90's anime

Ships exclusive to PGSM
--
Ami/Nephrite
Makoto/Motoki
Mamoru/Hina (one-sided)
Minako/Rei
slight Ami/Usagi? (she's now put in the "best friend" role compared to the 90's anime Rei and the Manga's Mina in those roles)
Beryl/Endymion (still one-sided)
Beryl/Jadeite

Ships exclusive to the Musicals (This is an interesting case cause the Musicals tend to use a mix of ships from both the 90's anime and Manga's continuity)
--
Beryl/Endymon
Senshi/Shittenou
Pluto/Endymion
Demande/Saphir
Demande/Esmeraude
Petz/Saphir

Rei/Yuuichirou

Ships exclusive to the Optimum dub
--
Darien/Amara
Darian/Michelle
Michelle/Brad (unknown named character)
Michelle/Mike (another unknown named character)
Sapphire/Emerald (one-sided)

As you can see, by far the biggest edition to the ships was the 90's anime, which version's set-up of ships do you prefer? I'd say overall I prefer the 90's anime interpretation of ships but I do appreciate the Manga for giving us stuff like Reinako, Minako/Ace, Minako/Kunzite, Chibi-Usa/Hotaru, Minako/Usagi, Beryl/Endymion, and Pluto/Endymion. There happens to be more ships I love that are a 90's anime invention than ships I love that are from the Manga (While the Manga/Crystal has ships I actively dislike like Sen/Shi, besides Venus/Kunzite) What say you?

And these too:

Usagi/Minako
Ami/Rei (remember their "one night stand" at Crown? lol )
Ami/Mako (regarding Mako looking after Ami when the latter was becoming "Akumi")
Mako/Minako (regarding Mako looking after Minako when the latter was seriously injured)
Venus/Zoisite (they'd worked together, leading to speculations that they might have a relationship in their past lives)
Endymion/Zoisite
Endymion/Mio (one-sided)
Beryl/Jadeite (regarding their final moment)
PSM/Usagi :mischief:

Forgot to include Beryl/Endymion and Beryl/Jadeite so went ahead and fixed it, the others you listed on the other hand are more like "shipping goggles" ships while I'm only listing the ones that had outright concrete hints XD (As much as I love Endymion/Zoisite myself)

Mio I didn't bother including because she's basically just an alter-ego of Beryl and that's already accounted for with the Beryl/Endymion ship. :)

@Tsundereshipper The 'Art Class' boy's Name was Masanori IIRC. And the 'Composer Dude' is Nishino Toshiki (or vice versa) aka. Mr. N. T. (Note that these are the same Initials as Naoko's… Pure Coincidence? :mischief:)

Understood :) - apparently our standards for inclusion are different in their strictness. lol

I've actually forgotten Endymion/Beryl, but even if I hadn't I'd still include Endymion/Mio due to the pretty different feels (e.g. different ages, etc.) of the two shippings.

[EDIT]
BTW, I'd also add Minako/Artemis. =^_^=

What qualifies as a suggested ship for me are any scenes that take place that are unabmigiously romantic/sexual rather than just any scene that can be interpreted as either platonic or romantic. :)

Done! Can't believe I forgot about them for the Manga lol.

Usagi/Galaxia - Manga.
I definitely ship it, but I'm not sure the "hints" provided could be considered unamgiously romantic and not just platonic. Galaxia does come to the realization that Sailor Moon is the star she was always looking for, but that could just mean in a general friendship way as well. Remember, she didn't believe in the power of any bonds - whether that be romantic or platonic.

I was actually referring to PGSM, lol but yeah, that's way more explicit in the manga, even to the pervy level. :ninja:

Another one I'd add for PGSM:

Kunzite/Darkury (one-sided)
Granted it's been awhile since I watched PGSM in full but where were either Minako/Artemis or Kunzite/Darkury unambiguously suggested?

Even though it wasn’t as explicit as it was in the Manga/Musicals/Crystal I’d say even in the 90s anime Beryl definitely had feelings for Endymion
I mean she gave him a marriage offer sure, but the way it came off didn't seem like it came from a place of genuine feelings, more like just an easier grab for power over the Earth. The way she makes her offer is just so blase and impersonal - like you would expect a political alliance to be. She doesn't seem that broken up over Endymion's refusal either. The only scene I can think of that might give a slight nod to Beryl's feelings being romantic is after Mamoru breaks free from his brainwashing and before she throws the Crystal when she says - "I won't forgive you Princess, taking Endymion away from me again." But again, it's hard to say whether that line was meant in a romantic way or Beryl just being pissy that her ultimate bargaining chip was taken from her again and she's now currently on the losing end of the war.

I don't think it can satisfy your standard regarding ambiguity, tho, but in one scene Kunzite reached out his hand to try to touch Darkury's cheek (even from nearby her ear IIRC), only to be shrugged off by her. I also think he considered her as sorta his treasured "creation," hence he'd invested some feelings/emotions on her - whether such feelings/emotions had a romantic element is open to interpretation, tho, & that's why I said it can't fulfill your criteria for inclusion. lol

Yet another two:

Ikuko/Minako's manager (they might have a past relationship)
Shingo/human Luna (he seemed to be stunned by his 1st sight of her)

Forgot to ask, but where does PSM/Usagi come from? Wouldn’t that just be masturbation?
Their dialog (or monolog? lol) at the end somewhat gives me a Platonic soul-mate feel - surely it doesn't contain any sexual element, but "their" finally having a peaceful, mutual-understandingly conversation makes me wanna ship "them." lol

That's Crystal only. The manga never truly brought into it other than Venus of last life have romance with Kunzite.

Another Story, too. Minako was never ever into Kunzite, she only felt surprised when hearing the past.

I mean Crystal is pretty much completely based on the Manga and was implementing ideas Naoko always wanted to include but couldn’t so I’d say it counts, even though I myself admitted it’s more in Crystal than the Manga itself.

Michiru/Seiya

Is it really ship? I think she was simply teasing him to get information.
Still suggestive flirting so still qualifies enough to be a teased ship in my eyes.

No, the whole Shittenou romance was their own creation based on unused idea of Naoko.

And even the manga's idea was only about their last life.
