I didn't grow up with the American version, and when I heard the original Dic voices I was, well let's say surprised. Despite that, I see many people still liked the original and honestly, I can see why. The people behind it seem to really have fun with the voices and there were some genuine talents hidden in this cast.
Not bashing on anyone's taste here, just honestly curious.

I do!

Is it a perfect show? No. Do I sometimes cringe while watching it? Yes. But that goes for the Japanese version as well. That goes for the live action series as well. That goes for the musicals, the manga, Crystal... I love Sailor Moon in all its forms with my whole heart, but each of those forms is flawed and slightly embarrassing in its own endearing way.

Well I watch sometimes clips for it for instance I love alot of the music from the DiC dub. I always thought My Only Love was a superior song to Maboroshi No Ginzuishou and if I had it my way in the Viz dub I would use My Only Love instead. I also loved Carry On all though I will say the longer version of Moonlight Densetsu works better for the scene and it's tragic tone. Now while I do prefer the original Zoisite in the 90s anime as a character and I love Lucien Dodge as him in the Viz dub I did like the female Zoisite voices by Kirsten Bishop. They were honestly very different characters. Original Zoisite was more like a haughty, elitist prince where as female Zoi was more like a sexy, sultry femme fatale. I still love femme Zoi's scenes as I think Kirsten Bishop did an amazing job.

The fact that Zoicite was actually a female in this dub stunned me at first, but after I saw the cousin reveal, I thought, meh, that's normal in comparison.
I know how much the voice of a character can add to them, and I'm honestly happy to hear that this dub was able to achieve that.

Its dedicated fans might seek it out, but most casual fans probably just watch what's available. It's getting harder and harder to find. The easiest way is actually getting the ADV VHS tapes.
Damn, I didn't realize, I thought you could find it online easy, but I guess since copyright issues it makes sense.
I guess people really do miss things only once they're gone, VHS tapes are history at this point, it's a shame Sailor Moon stuff it's getting more and more rare and expensive, but that's how things go.

Is that really the best way to own it now? I have heard other people say this before but it seems like even a lot of the VHS tapes are quite expensive on ebay and amazon especially considering the lesser running time you get from a VHS tape than a DVD. I guess it varies from one tape or DVD to another though seems like the prices fluctuate from time to time. I still have a few of the VHS I had from childhood and I'm pretty sure they still play fine but having to use a VCR sure is a pain. I think the the Dic VHS with the hot pink boxes and the shiny prismatic border as well as the movies should be in just about everyone's collection they are so cute.

The Buena Vista tapes? They never finished it after the Doom Tree box set...
I was not implying they are an adequate substitute for the complete ADV ones just saying they are nice I think the nostalgia associated with those in particular is a bit stronger for most people since I think a lot of people had them. The fact that there are only a few of the important episodes of the first season on them is a plus for me because I couldn't see myself having a full collection of VHS tapes of Sailor Moon even the ones I have take up a lot of space.I am struggling to go more minimalistic these days In particular I am probably going to purge my place of most of the VHS in my house I have a huge book shelf of Disney VHS and other stuff that I can't justify keeping stuff just for liking the commercials and clamshell packaging. Even most of my DVDs went into a big binder. I still keep a few DBZ, Ranma and Tenchi VHS tapes though but only stuff I had from when I was a kid or I find for dirt cheap at second hand places.

I've seen the Japanese episodes so many times by now, I sometimes throw on a DiC episode just for something different. I enjoy the voice acting and the general nostalgia (I grew up with it, after all). It's so very 90s and I appreciate it a lot. I guess you can say that I do indeed unironically enjoy it even though it's not my preferred way of watching Sailor Moon. Despite having to deal with censorship, over-localization, and tweaking the story in places, you can tell that the people making the dub really cared about putting out a quality product. Even though I love the original Japanese music, for example, I was a bit disappointed when the Cloverway dub switched over to the original music. I actually missed the DiC music! The Inners' transformation music was just epic and it rivaled the Outers' transformation music from the Japanese original.

Disney/Buena Vista only released 12 random episodes to VHS before Doom Tree, with two episodes per tape. The Doom Tree boxset was the only time they released a large number of episodes in chronological order. You can view scans of all the tape boxes here: Sailor Moon Uncensored: Misc - Buena Vista's DiC VHSs. I guess they would be good collector's items if you're not trying to get the whole series.

I have to say I did really enjoy the art for those DiC Sailor Moon VHS series. I personally owned them all except the Doom Tree set.
