^ I just wish the transformation was in 2D to compete with how excellent the old anime's transformation sequences were.
I'm actually sorta glad that the transformation sequence isn't in 2D IMHO. How it is right now seems like one of those defining points that would separate Crystal from the '90s anime itself. Kinda gives the idea that this anime will be a whole different experience. :)

Yea- its magical all-right...Technically speaking here - Ill just honest and say its a mess at times but strangely- the more you watch it - the more you kind of like it..

Ill be postive no doubt - but realistic as well. (at least from my point of view)

Now for the opening... I want it to be comparable with the Opening after Usagi found out she was the Princess.

The new opening starts off pretty nice but thengets rather ummmm....and then picks back up .

As far as preserving my childhood....well at least they are dubbing the series over again..That sounds pretty cool!!

That CGI stuff was obviously made to draw in new youger fans who like all the jumpy spinning 3-D stuff that has taken over the scene. Not saying its a bad thing though I guess..

I hope for its success as well....my eyes now have shifted to the new dub of the old series...Im intrigued to see how much they do this justice

I guess i am one of the few who doesn't see what whats so bad with the new transformation, i like it. It doesn't look overly CGI to me and everything looks really fluid. The 90's anime sometimes seemed choppy in comparison. I think the reason she looks stretched out with "noodle" arms is that it was animated as if it were shot with a wide angle lens. I'm sure it was a styling choice by the animators to give it an interesting perspective, but as a result some shots can seem odd, especially with her spinning the whole time. Just my thoughts.

I'm sure plenty of fans in Japan were upset in the 90's when they replaced "Moonlight Densetsu" with "Sailor Stars Song". Some folk are resistant to change, but they eventually come around.
I was just kinda like... what is...this?
But now you love it....right? :-P

I do prefer "Moonlight Densetsu" but I also like "Sailor Star Song".

There were no complaints about the first episode. I remember people being excited because nobody really knew what Crystal was at that point.

It was after the airing of episodes 2 and 3 that the Tumblr pages all over the world started posting the memes and gifs with the continuity errors and the other problems that TOEI fixed for the DVD release.

Oh yes there were some little red flags in the first episode but that would be very little compared to how episodes 2 and 3 crashed the reboot.
Em, no. The 1st episode majorly sucked. Those weren't little red flags, those were massive red banners. The unappealing character design, the stiff, barely-existent animation, the irregular pacing, the lacking characterization, you name it, were all present from the start. You could tell this adaptation would be hot garbage from the very first trailer. Actually, you could tell from the first key visual with its bad anatomy, poor perspective, and tentacle hair.

I am merely stating what I remember.

I may not remember what everyone here said upon the airing of the 1st episode (some people here did believe Queen Serenity’s hair color had changed), but the real backlash occurred after the airing of episode 2 and it intensified after the airing of episode 3.

Episode 3 confirmed to fans that Crystal was an ONA series with a poor budget.

You know how much I hate Crystal S1-2, but as much as I really didn’t like the first episode and art style, I was at that time ready to give it a chance if all episodes had an equivalent quality. Indeed once I saw episodes 2-3 it was instantly dead for me, beyond redemption.

I suppose this art style, would have it been consistent, could have appealed to general audience because it seems lot of people new to the franchise liked this style (which I don’t understand tbh but well).

In the shadows throwing roses at you
what I remember back then was this whole mentality of
"it's more sailor moon we have to support it if we support it we'll keep getting more" vibe going on for a while when crystal was new
maybe not everyone was like that but those who went nuts excited did
me I was skeptical I did watch up to ep 6 before I was like mmmm this ain't for me
wouldn't be til 2018 when the hype died down that I went and caught up from the first season through season 3 and I did like it more the 2nd time around but 90s anime and even the manga mops the floor with it

Did they though? The only people I recall liking the art style were manga purists who perceived Sakou's style to be similar to Naoko's despite them looking nothing alike. Little did they know, they were actually insulting their Queen with that comparison.
