Like someone else stated, Netflix is HUGE in the US. Most people have it. I don’t think the Top 10 is any indication of its success. Would we like it to be there, yes. Crystal is still on Hulu after all of these years. If it wasn’t making some sort of profit, they would’ve pulled it.

A lot of folks here just don't want an 1:1 adaptation of the manga. When Crystal was a series, a lot of people on this forum were constantly saying that it would be better as movies. Now that they're movies, everyone's saying it would be better as a series again. :googly:

I feel like we need to form a support group for individuals here who are going to be shocked and upset when Stars is also... a 1:1 adaptation.
LOL true but I still think you can adapt perfectly - manga or a book for instance without having to copy / last page by page exactly the same… it’s called adapting and not copying for a reason I guess . For instance some chapters in the manga needed more episodes some other less. That 1:1 adaptation is problematic.

I love all the visual cues they took from the manga, I love the faithful adaptation. But we could have had that plus expansion on all the manga lore. Their idea, however was one on one transition, and the movie format looks like the best way doing that.

I mean tell that to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and the 2011 Adaptation of Hunter X Hunter among others!

I'm not saying anyone has to like it. But Crysternal is far from the only anime that stuck very close to its source material. It's also not unusual for these adaptations to faithfully recreate panels.

Yup. If Crystal was going to change course from being a 1:1 adaptation they had their chance with Season 3. It's far too late now.

The changes in Crystal were Naoko's idea but Toei did not do the execution well.

The difference is is that the source material for those is way stronger so they didn’t really need it.

Oh well, I’m fully expecting the same treatment for Stats for I’ll try and keep my expectations in check.

Yet a lot of people seems to forget that Sailor Moon Manga was a MONTHLY publication so you cannot expect that it can just be copy 1:1 and it’s gonna work in a regular TV weekly Series just like that.

It’s pretty obvious that Takeuchi when she created the manga was in kind of a deal with Toei about bringing the plots and characters (even second role characters) and the role of the classic anime was to expand them to make the series works in a weekly format. That why a lot of new second roles characters appears randomly in the manga for few pages..

Anyway I really like Crystal and Eternal so I’m not complaining about the plot in general. But the pacing is bad during all the seasons because of this 1:1 adaptation ; a manga is not a storyboard I’m sorry. Of course you can copy a lot of panels but you cannot expect that what everything who worked on paper and was developed in parallel with the classic series; like the girls building their friendships) is gonna work just by copy/paste a manga page . I’m pretty sure the first arc could have been adapted in a 26 episodes (instead of 13) and the final product would have been much more better with introduction and developing of plots who had some time on screen (and not finishing like the 4 generals story did). Here it was like “oh there is one page about that so it has to be 1 minute maximum in the episode”.

For instance if you take Dragon Ball or the original St Seiya there are for a big part a faithful adaptation of the manga but adapted to screen format… much more close anyway than the classic Sailor Moon anime.

Anyway it’s too late now the format will not change… but the last star manga arc is so “empty” and at the same time full of stuffs that I’m really scare about the result with a 1:1 adaptation.

anyway go back to Netflix topic, do we know in how many different language the films has been dubbed ???

cool! On my Netflix I missed the Spanish versions, Portuguese and Thai version :(. I would love to see the outers intro :((((
All presentations in Brazilian Portuguese:

New voices: Moon and Uranus
R-Stars dub voices: Everyone else

Trivia: Usagi's season 1 voice auditioned and wasn't approved by Toei, but came back as Queen Serenity.

Chibi Usa is even worse than Latin Spanish Usagi.... Your Chibi Usa would make a nice Jun Jun though.

A lot of fans are saying she should have been replaced. She can't voice little girls anymore.
She sounds older than the rest of the cast, true... But then Ves Ves sounds just as bad. I have seen many wonderful dubs in Spanish and Portuguese. But for some reason the Sailor Moon ones always sound pretty bad to me at least.

Ves Ves, Jun Jun and Cere Cere are all voices from the old dub. Ves Ves's VA voiced Jupiter in season 1, though.
And yes, Sailor Moon always had trouble with dubbed versions in Brazil.

Glitter Firce dubs were horrible in Spanish, Maybe they hate magical girls?

I think with some creative freedom a good screenplay could tell the Dark Kingdom arc in even less then 12 episodes. The 1:1 adaptation really is THE problem.
