It’s not nearly as funny to me as when I was in high school/college. That said it does have some funny bits. I just wish the humor was more than

Ha! Sailor Moon is dumb and bulimiac

Ha! Amy is useless and the Meg of the team

Ha! Raye is a Satanist

Ha! Lita is a MTF transsexual

Ha! Mina is a dumb ho!

Yeah, it can go overboard at certain points.

I used to regularly watch it in middle school and I thought it was the funniest thing. Obviously some of the jokes are outdated and really just not as funny, but once in a while I'll watch a few eps for the nostalgia.

I know most of the series is still on youtube, but it looks like Viz is slowly claiming copyright on the series. Does anyone have the series uploaded elsewhere? I'd really like to download the whole thing for archival purposes.

Tried a few episodes a few years ago but it didn't do much for me...which thinking back, it kinda makes me nervous for if I ever watch any old Alternate Reality Dragon Ball Z again (was a big fan back when that was still around).

I watched a bunch of it back in the day. I agree that the humor hasn't really aged well, but I still appreciate a lot of those abridged episodes.

When I was in college in a small town in upstate NY, we actually had a very small "anime convention" on our campus -- I think it only lasted one year because of how small and awful it was. At any rate, the SMA crew showed up and did a Q+A panel with like 10 of us in the audience. They asked if we wanted to screen an episode and I immediately requested the evil hair curler episode featuring Venus/Minako. xD

I loved their transformation music they used for her. It fit so perfectly.

Even back in the day, I didn't find it funny, mostly because the cast...could not act...(I say this as someone who also cannot act well). Comedic acting is HARDER than dramatic acting, and even if the writing wasn't so one-note, the episodes would be unbearable because half of it was just screaming.

Even if they could act, though, the structural problem was SMA their whole approach to the material. Whereas other Abridged series mined humor from the ridiculousness of the plots and animation direction, SMA seemed to just to be mean just for meanness sake. Take Stereotypically Satantist Raye. This could have been funny if Raye were secretly evil and all of the Sailor Scouts just thought she was "psychic," thus poking fun at the dub coverup while demonstrating the basis for a wild, unfounded belief. But having her scream "Must pray to Satan" just comes off as an attempt to be "edgy" for shock value without setting up the joke.

KrisRix as Sailor Mars was the thing I loved most about SMA. It was just so over-the-top I couldn't help but laugh. Not to mention her hilarious impressions of the other characters, especially Ann.

As for mining the absurdities of the plots... Well, in that episode, Jaedite gleefully says the perfect place to use his [power is in full view of everyone.

If it helps, Krisrix has stated on her tumblr she finds the show cringy now and most of the humor to be unfunny.

Most abridge series I’ve seen have terrible acting. At least SMA had decent audio equipment

It's amazing that the cast has grown and moved on. Megami is still posting song covers and working well as Bulma and Puar in TFS's Dragon Ball Z Abridged.

Looks like someone did feel it was worth preserving the series and uploaded I believe all of it (I think minus the movie) to archive.org! I'm just happy such a large part of my childhood was saved. Like everyone in this thread has mentioned- the humor of the series isn't all that funny in this day and age, but the nostalgia is sooo real for me lmao
