:ami: probably would be the best choice but :rei:would certainly be more funny.

I would pick :mihiru: though because she and :usagi: are so different, it would be cool to see them team up.

Rei is my favorite but Ami would be the most useful. Not only is she smart, her powers are the most versatile; disorienting, disabling, and dispatching enemies. She has a mini supercomputer, can open hyperdimension zones, create clones of herself, and is extremely supportive of Usagi.

My second choice would be 90's Rei because she pushes Usagi to do better and the comedy interactions would be nice. Her powers are devastating and can take on many forms. She and Mercury are the only ones who combined their attacks with Sailor Moon's tiara to make an even more powerful attack.

The episode in SM Super with Uranus and Moon teaming up is a good reason why they shouldn't. Lol.

This is a bit tough for me, as Slowpoke said Ami would definitely be the best choice from a "getting stuff done" perspective, she the level headed and analytical one to Usagi's usually more emotionally driven behavior. Both of which are good perspectives to have in a situation, and they both get along well and are good friends so it's easier for them to reach an agreement compared to say, Usagi and Haruka or Michiru. They also bring each other out of their comfort zones, with the outgoing extrovert Usagi getting the shy introvert Ami to have fun, spend time with others, open up more, etc. while Ami helps Usagi keep her head on straight, helping thinking about what to do, studying, etc. They make a good team.

From an interesting character dynamic perspective though I think Rei would be the most interesting. In the 90's anime they probably have the strongest dynamic of any two senshi besides arguably Haruka and Michiru. Rei is Usagi's foil in a much different way then Ami, where as Ami is in terms of approach to a situation Rei is a difference of how her emotions drive her compared to Usagi. While Usagi is a friendly outgoing Rei is fiery. Often times their emotions are the main driving force behind what they do, but when Usagi will get upset Rei will get angry, where Usagi wears her heart on her sleeve and will always pour out her heart to someone and show how much she cares Rei will often mask her feelings and concerns in teasing, berating, and sarcasm but is really just pushing her to do her best, and at the same time Usagi brings out the best in her. I think D-point shows all this really well, with their different reactions to the situation/ways of handling their emotions, and ESPECIALLY their talk together, where Rei is completely unguarded and in her own way expresses how much she cares in a genuine way that others very rarely make her bring out.

Rambling but from an objective "most effective team" standpoint probably Ami, but honestly my heart says Rei, and I think there's a genuine argument for her as the best option

As for others Miniako and Makoto are both really good partners for Usagi but I don't think have the same strong complementation element that Ami and Rei do

Haruka I don't think would go well based on what we've seen, whereas Rei ultimately follows Usagi's approach even on her own, Usagi and Haruka would be a frequent conflict of ideals. Michiru, Hotaru, and Setsuna would be really interesting to see but that's mainly because with the exception of the one Stars episode with her and Setsuna we haven't seen it

As for Chibiusa just read the manga

Minako and Usagi are both leaders so that could lead to a clash.

Usagi and Rei-Rei might tether Usagi to reality if Usagi starts freaking out.

Usagi and Ami-Ami is a great tactician and could guide Usagi without it turning into a fight like with Rei.

Usagi and Mako-Mako is-I will argue-the strongest Senshi, but can like fighting a bit too much. Could Usagi reign her in?

Usagi and Chibiusa-Usagi is too much of a mama bear and Chibiusa isn't that strong a fighter.

Michiru is also wise and more refined/experienced, but I wonder if she would get too headstrong and lack of chemistry with Usagi. Still would be a interest pair to see.

the first one came to my mind was minako. because she was awakened before, looks pretty much like usagi and i feel like they make a good team. (minako needs to be in her serious side a little bit more)

Minako and Usagi are a bit too similar, isn't Michiru even earlier?

That's actually something I don't know, when did Michiru and Haruka awaken? I know Michiru awoke herself, then Haruka but were they before Sailor V?

Also that just gave me the thought, Michiru and Minako would be an incredibly interesting pairing because they're so radically different it'd be fun lol. : p ^^

Id probably say Rei since they technically have the best dynamics of being polar opposites. Though Lita would be my 2nd choice since she is my fave.

Not really: the manga side stories show they sometimes have outings together, with Usagi as the sidekick. Guess they both know who has things to teach to the other.

I thought that one was Jedyte's work? :?
She does it in the manga and Crystal I believe. I thought it was neat.

Also, I noticed how the 90's stuck with Moon, Mercury, and Mars for a long time. It had a very three girl group vibe. They had the brains, Mercury, the power, Mars and the ditz, Moon.

This post is good cause it has me wondering why all the Senshi have been paired up with each at least one except for Venus and Mercury. I can't remember any episode where they were paired...but meh.

Although Usagi needs all her girls, if she has to go with one with the longest time with one, I think she should definitely pick Mako.

Mako and Usagi have enough similarities (love of girly things, strong moral code), but enough differences (Mako is more ready to jump into action, Usagi is more ready to forgive, Mako likes to cook, Usagi likes to eat) to allow them to work together. It's no accident that Mako was the one in the Nehellenia Stars arc who had to get Usagi to snap out of it. The only flaw is that Mako does believe in Usagi a little too much; I'm not sure she would be able to step up to contradict Usagi if she were wrong.

As for the other choices:

Ami - Ami's a good teammate and supportive figure, but she's also the tactician. While she can help in battle, she can't do that and protect Sailor Moon, and Sailor Moon isn't exactly a defensive specialist. Also, Ami, at least in the anime, is a little too easy to fold without Usagi giving in the same way (for instance, Usagi gets Ami to loosen up, but by contrast we never see Usagi try harder in school as a result of Ami's influence). This is a problem when both of them are feely-types at heart; even when Ami is rational, she's never emotionless or truly cold.

Rei - For entertainment, this would be comedy gold, but realistically, the two of them would butt heads too much if forced together for long without anyone breaking them up. They could have great teamwork when they're on, but when they're off, they will argue and disagree, and without any mediating figures, each of them would go their own way because they're that stubborn. With only two of them, they'd split.

Minako - They balance each other out well in battle, but both of them are prone to fits of silliness outside of battle and would only end up exasperating each other's bad habits.

As @Star Angel Haruki says, the anime gives a good reason why Haruka would be an awful teammate and the same is true of Michiru. Both of them have a fundamental difference in worldview from Usagi and are too prone to go their own way. They'll work well with each other as well as with a kindred spirit who will share their ideals, but they are frustratingly isolationist.

Setsuna would be a disaster, even discounting the manga attraction she has to Endymion. The biggest problem is the mental age difference, as Pluto would be working from what would basically be an infant in her view.

Hotaru is an interesting case, as they are complete opposites in terms of personality. That being said, it's often forgotten that while Chibi-Usa had a special bond with Hotaru, that Usagi herself had a similar, but different bond in S beyond being Chibi-Usa's tagalong pal. In civilian form, both could teach each other a lot (Usagi could expose Hotaru to life, and Hotaru could show Usagi), while their divergent approaches to evil would compliment each other. Plus, in battle, Saturn's wide array of powers (both offensive and defensive) give her more flexibility than one would expect. However, that whole "going my own way" stuff the Outers are prone to do will rear its ugly head, and Saturn's tendency to consider herself a last resort and an uninvited guest could make things difficult. Saturnine lunacy would either dissonant or eerily harmonious.

And as far as Chibi-Usa goes, we have SuperS. Nuff said.

I wonder if :ami: would make up (The Phrase Piggy, please) a good Doctor Who Companion: Intelligent, soft personality, awesome with Computers, borderline pacifistic, blue (like the TARDIS) is her primary colour…
