Is Ami really that smart?

We saw her countless times getting the best test result and bombarding her friends with knowledge. But being able to memorize numbers, definitions and facts does not equal being smart. In fact, she has done a few rather silly things, such as going to investigate alone or buying a fish of a breed she’s never seen before from a suspicious person, or in most anime fillers: never questioning the idea of going to a newly (out of the blue in fact) opened place or checking out offers too convenient to be true.

Of course, I’m not insulting the Guardian of Wisdom - I just think the fandom misinterprets her

Intelligence doesn't mean you don't make mistakes, it's also different than rationality. Some ppl are smart but their temper would usually affect them. Ami is a very good character because she is intelligent but she isn't so cold so you don't feel distance when interacting with her.

And even the coolest person will have their judgement affected with their emotion sometimes. AKA Michiru.

She is smart but she also got her flaw so sometimes it will cloud her judgment.
Of course, everyone has flaws. A flawless character wouldn’t be relatable and interesting. My point is that, at least in the manga, we don’t really see her making intelligent decisions while acting on her own. In fact, Rei acts more (or at least more often) responsible and wise, yet Ami is thought of “the smart one”.

Agree

Agree
Manga didn't give them much to do, usually it's Minako>Rei>the other two. But the anime showed Ami's intelligence very well.

She's 14. The smartest 14 year old girl in the world is dumb as a post when it comes to conceptualizing the future, particularly negative consequences.

Correct. Being assiduous does not mean that you are actually intelligent.

I subscribe to the theory of multiple intelligences—see the work of psychologist Howard Gardner.

You can say that Ami is very intelligent when it comes to verbal-linguistic or logical-mathematical thinking,

but when it comes to existential or spiritual intelligence, then Rei is smarter,

and if we are talking about interpersonal intelligence, then Usagi and Minako are geniuses.

Well, yeah, Usagi is a born politician. She knows how to lead and inspire.

And if we are talking about donut spatial awareness, then Chibi Chibi is the smartest person in the series.

There is no such thing. :O
...says the person who subscribes to the theory of multiple intelligences. Please tell me how are you different from those narrow minded people who claim that IQ is the only reliable method to measure human intelligence and reject "spiritual", "emotional" and all other alternative "intelligences".

I meant that you named it wrong. You wanted to describe palatal-delectation intelligence. :keke:

I hear Neo Queen Serenity has a high level of palatial-detection intelligence too.
I hope you are aware that the the palatial-detection thing is something I made up. It doesn’t actually exist. I just wanted @Maraviollantes to believe it existed—and apparently he did because he did not correct me. :O

You made up palatal-delectation.
I made up palatial-detection. (read my full article by expanding the quote in this post: 2020: Scientists find water on the moon)
Stop taking credit for my work or in the name...
:usagi:: "Yeah yeah, you've stolen my line enough!"
Spoiler: show
:ami:: "I'm smart enough to know that this thread is off-topic. Go douse yourselves in water and repent!"

Also... My prince has reminded me to inform you that it is just a coincidence I wrote that article on palatial detection in October and in no way did I go back in time and re-write history so this conversation would re-play differently.
