Is it wrong that I like 90s anime way more over the manga?

There are parts of the 90s anime that I feel they really did improve on. For example, with the identities revealed of Usagi & Mamoru within the elevator in Classic rather than just so quickly discovered within the manga with Mamoru finding out. With character development being explored more, I prefer Rei's personality in the anime rather than manga to name a few. There was such a *magic* for me with the original series that made me fall in love with it and it's still my first & favorite anime of all time. Which also had me delve into other magical girl anime series but I still feel nothings tops that series for me overall. 90s Toei definitely did improve on things from the manga also. Can't speak for the company to today's standards since I feel that has decreased over time.

Downfalls in the anime were that there were no Outers in SuperS, no Asteroid Senshi, no Eternal transformations for the other Senshi besides Sailor Moon, barely any presence of Sailor Pluto in the R season, which she was in more scenes. I do wonder why these were cut out from the original anime though honestly.

What do you fans as of myself think?

I think I feel the same for some of the same reasons as you.
I do prefer the anime now, but I can enjoy both versions depending on what I'm in the mood for.

The anime would have probably been improved if it could have stuck closer to the manga at certain points...more Pluto in R, for example (having her be the catalyst for Chibiusa's transformation was something I loved.)
One reason this wasn't possible was because of the slow rate that the manga was released.
Naoko needed a bigger team or something, I'm pretty sure the story would have flowed better if she could have focused on that and let someone else handle the art and layout...as a fellow procrastinator, I totally understand, but she was always having issues with deadline and whether her fault of the magazine she was published in...12 issues (if that) a year were not enough for a near weekly anime to have the content it needed.

As a trade off, we got several excellent anime only plotlines that often matched or beat out the manga storylines. So I'm not too bothered.

There is absolutely nothing wrong to like one or the other. They are different story-telling approaches - the 90s anime is more character driven, the manga is more story driven and focused on lore. Some people prefer character driven stories and it is perfectly fine. I prefer the manga because I prefer more focused stories rather than sitcoms and character driven shows, which doesn't mean I don't love the 90s anime as well. I have dedicated a ton of time and effort to color correct it, to translate it in my language and overall I find it a great product, also when I am in the mood to laugh a bit I always watch the Nurse Minako episode :D

Why does there have to be a right or wrong when it comes to one's tastes in this series?

I prefer the manga but it's personal taste, I don't see why I should be upset about the fact that others like more the anime or other incarnations of the work. I also don't want someone to feel wrong about choosing to like more one over the other. There is nothing wrong with loving 90s anime, it has been part of every fan's life, also making a huge contribution to the export of manga and anime, as well as becoming an icon of a generation.

If there hadn't been the 90s anime we probably would never have known this series, we wouldn't have avalanches of manga, anime and gadgets outside Japan, then, personally, I became very fond of the series because I found a bit of myself in each senshi, above all I identified much in the protagonist because I'm clumsy too. That Usagi knows how to be herself and open up to others in a spontaneous and sincere way, she looks beyond appearances and has taught me a lot.

Even today I can't help but be moved by watching certain scenes from those series. The historical series of Sailormoon has left us an important legacy, opening our hearts and our horizons, making us dream and hope for a better tomorrow, at least, that's what this anime has left in me.

It's no mystery that I like the manga better, I have my preferences, this doesn't take away what the anime has given and taught me. >w0

So don't feel guilty or wrong in any way for liking more the 90s anime, got it? èwé

Liked Rei’s personality more in the 90’s anime too. Love the fiery, passionate, sassy, and strong-willed queen of heels that she could be. I don’t dislike her manga personality tho. Just prefer and think the aforementioned personality matches her better.

Unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the MamoRei dating subplot. It made the story more realistic in that not veryine just dates one person in their life because they can only date their soulmate. Give us different dynamics that we haven’t seen before in other versions of SM. That’s what the 90’s did with MamoRei. Honestly, they should have made Usagi date someone before Mamoru too. Could have done that with Ail (or Motoki pre-Reika if they really wanted to go in for the drama).

Many in the fandom like to dismiss it as filler just because they dislike it since it’s not in the manga. Convenient that they don’t say the same for the iconic moments like Usagi/Mamoru identity reveal, or a lifeless-looking Sailor Moon carrying baby Hotaru.

I love the manga/crystal, dislike SuperS, but that’s just me

What I think does not define anything other than my personal preferences.

The 90s anime has both Gays and Lesbians which created the LGBTI reputation of the show, the Manga has only lesbians and created the first positive Yuri representation in manga where Lesbians don't separate and die.

The fandom has been having the anime vs. manga debate since we had an Internet to argue on. Like whatever you like, it’s all Sailor Moon. I don’t think anyone here explicitly dislikes the 90s anime, lol. It’s an iconic treasure.

I like the manga a lot, but notice that Classic, R, and even S to an extent follow most of the same story beats as the manga (more or less) and just make it their own, whereas SuperS and Sailor Stars only really take the bare minimum of the manga storylines and sorta do their own episodic thing (which works in some cases, like the Amazon Trio and Siren/Crow getting fleshed out). I think if SuperS and Sailor Stars followed their manga counterparts just a little bit more, while still keeping the 90s anime flavor they seemed to have perfected in S, they really could have created something even more spectacular.
