I don't hate her. I think some people just don't like how she stole the show. Also, some of the hate, imo, should be blamed on the 90's portrayal of her character...which is even wonkier in the western version. I've never hated her to be honest but never really caught onto her appeal Toei wanted her to have....That Pink Sugar Heart Attack is humorous though...for a while.

If you seen my posts in Confessions of an Anti Moonie thread, I covered this topic. There were many Anti-Chibi Usa sites due to her Electra Complex with her dad, always putting Usagi down, and the dub made her an annoying little ****.

Even though Chibi Chibi says her name repeatedly, the Antis have no hate for her. Plus in the years with Antis, it was fun how The Chibi Project was testing out new ways to destroy a Chibi Moon figure. They redeemed themselves by making a sub site called, In The Defense of SuperS. Too bad that both sites have broken links today.

And even if you watch SuperS, Chibi Usa/Chibi Moon gets into deep **** such as almost being eaten alive by a Lemure, then jumps into flames to save Pegasus from the Amazoness Quartet, and being flung in the air by the whacko Queen Nehenleia.

And let's not forget the SuperS movie that Chibi Moon was electrocuted and getting her powers drain. I dunno what the writers were thinking in SuperS. I guess they wanted Chibi Usa to suffer the same turmoil like Usagi had in the previous seasons. But it kinda makes SuperS masochist towards Chibi Usa.

Now I'm curious if the author of :chibiusa:'s 7th Birthday was part of that group. :group hug:

Yes it seems to be a mostly Western thing. Honestly Chibiusa can be bratty but she dosen't act anymore bratty or unlikable then any other character. Quiet as it's kept there are times she even acts more mature then her mother.

Also anti fans really have no place in the Sailor Moon fandom or any. Honestly the Western comics, animation and entertainment fandom have been populated by anti fans that don't love these series and in fact actively despise them and want to destroy/deconstruct and reimagine the series in their foolish image.

Really we need a Sailor Pluto to gatekeep anti fans out of Sailor Moon and all other series.

Plus you have to have a boring life and be a weird person to dedicate yourself to a series you despise.

Yep, not to mention Chibiusa disappearing from existence in the 6th episode of Sailor Stars 'til Mamo-chan was healed. I can imagine the antis cheering back then, even though I know that would've been uncalled for at that time.

Maybe there're also haters of her in the production team? lol

Haters or antis of a show/character can still be considered as a certain type of fans, who may be called "hating fans" or "anti fans," of that show/character, because they also always pay big attention to that show/character & take much of their efforts & time for the show/character.

It could be a western thing. Honestly... I don't know where this hate thing about Chibiusa comes from. I suppose it originated in USA because of the first dub and Internet helped to spread that hate throughout the globe. :?

She’s not as good of a character nor nearly as complex/developed in the 90’s anime when compared to her Manga counterpart, but she’s not this completely insufferable demon either like the fandom makes her out to be.

I blame either the Optimum dub where they cranked up/flanderized her meaness 10 fold (Much like they did for Raye and Darien who also get similar amounts of hate from the English-speaking fandom) or SuperS for constantly centering her & making her a know it at all brat at the expense of the Inners.

Her incredibly irritating voice during the DIC era of the Optimum dub also certainly didn’t help.

According to a recent interview with Junichi Sato, a lot of viewers didn't like Chibiusa in R. He was tasked with "the Chibiusa problem" and trying to make her a more likable character in S.
I think the dubs did not help, but yeah r was definitely the reason .I feel like the 90's anime made her more bratty and atangonistic than she was in the manga with r.

Nah I disagree Rika anti fans have no place in a series or fandom. We have seen how many anti fans have destroyed many series, cartoons, video games, comics etc especially if they get control and have their night of power. They will then gleefully destroy everything fans loved about the series and "deconstruct" everything writing the characters as OOC unlikable self inserts etc.

I find it weird that fans claimed the old dub made Rini brattier when there's next to no difference between Rini's character and Chibi Usa's character. I guess Tracey Hoyt's performance sounds a bit more like a snot nosed brat than Kae Araki but so did Sandy Fox

But its telling Juinichi Sato was requested to make Chibi Usa more likable for Sailor Moon S

I like her in small doses. But everything about her in the 90s anime is loud. Her color scheme, her voice, her attitude. She's a brat in R, even though she has her reasoning. But I think her part to play in R was one of the few times she really wasn't redundant. There she has a plot, a motive, and a part to play in the finale...both in the manga and anime.

I think bringing her back for Infinity/S was overall detrimental. She did have a plot with Hotaru, which was sweet, but again, this was a tad redundant since Usagi or one of the other girls could have filled this part pretty easily. The plot was already so Usagi/Mamo focused that Chibi Usa just pulled away more screentime from the others.

They could have fixed her by actually giving her some training episodes in S and unique attacks and things to do. Besides the Hotaru stuff, she is basically pointless in S and I almost wish they'd left her out in the anime version. I had a younger cousin who was "Rini" obsessed and it was cute. I liked that Chibi Usa inspired her, so I get the appeal for younger kids.
I will say, the idea of Queen Usagi sending her back to be with her younger self to find friends is sweet...and also weird since shouldn't she be finding friends in her own time? All of these kids she's meeting will be dead or 1000-year-old adults back in her own time.

In SuperS and Dream, she's definitely given more plot...I guess. But I don't really like it. The manga is fine...but I feel like Chibi Usa's presence dumbed things down. Especially in the anime. I thought the Pegasus scenes were some of the prettiest but I just can't get into it. It's weird, it's creepy and it's kind of boring after it drags out so long in the anime.
I like how we see her mature and begin to kind of develop her own thing, but again, she is redundant. She's just like her name, a Little Usagi and I'd rather we'd have explored Usagi and Mamo deeper or especially the other girls. Chibi Usa gets to ring a bell in the anime or mirror her mom in every way in the manga, right down to having color-coded guardians with little to no personality.

But even after all of that she really gets cheated in both versions of Stars. Especially the anime. I become full-on indignant about how they treated her there. We are supposed to get behind her having her own anime series during SuperS...she goes back to playing side character in the Nehellenia arc (I like her here) of Stars and then she's just gone with no send-off episode, no closure to her arc and she doesn't even get to come back in the end of the anime. Absolutely trashy how they handled her. She should have had a send-off right before Mamoru left. I know it's mentioned and that the manga does this similarly, but after giving us three seasons/arcs of Chibi Usa, she did deserve better. Her return in the manga isn't a lot better. It feels so forced and shoehorned in.

:question::chibiusa::question:

I don't understand the hate for her. Sure she is bratty but aren't most kids are these days?
That a big part of why she's often disliked. Most people don't want to see kids that act like kids on TV. We want to see kids who are cool or who are better behaved.

It also doesn't help than in Sailor Moon R, that for the first part of her arc if she gets scared or distressed, she lets out a moonbeam, which instantly lets the bad guys find her. Not only is she useless and her presence disrupts Usagi's familial relationships, but she's a literal Trouble Magnet that draws bad guys to her. Through her reaction, the heroes have to protect her.

She's a liability.

Yeah, bratty kids have already been everywhere IRL, so you don't need to see them yet again on the screen. lol
